SPIDER-MAN: ACROSS THE SPIDER-VERSE Social Media Call The Sequel A "Stunning Achievement" On Every Level

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is very nearly here, and the first social media reactions for the sequel are pretty much entirely positive, promising a movie every bit as amazing as its predecessor.

The embargo on social media reactions for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse has lifted, and it looks like we should ready ourselves for another amazing adventure revolving around Miles Morales.

The Into the Spider-Verse sequel is clearly every bit as astonishing as its predecessor, with Gwen Stacy given the chance to shine here every bit as much as Miles. The animation is, unsurprisingly, also highlighted as are what sound like some massive cameos and surprises (don't worry, there are no spoilers below).

Some critics preferred the 2018 movie - which was to be expected - but it appears the sequel ups the ante and makes good on its promises to be bigger and better than the animated franchise's opening chapter.

As far as we're aware, the review embargo doesn't lift until May 31 but, as you'll also see below, Sony Pictures has already released a TV spot packed full of pull quotes from those.

Here are some of the most noteworthy reactions (via Toonado.com):

Miles Morales returns for the next chapter of the Oscar-winning Spider-Verse saga, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. After reuniting with Gwen Stacy, Brooklyn's full-time, friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man is catapulted across the Multiverse, where he encounters a team of Spider-People charged with protecting its very existence.

But when the heroes clash on how to handle a new threat, Miles finds himself pitted against the other Spiders and must redefine what it means to be a hero so he can save the people he loves most.

The movie stars Shameik Moore, Hailee Steinfeld, Jake Johnson, Issa Rae, Daniel Kaluuya, Karan Soni, Jason Schwartzman, Brian Tyree Henry, Luna Lauren Velez, Greta Lee, Rachel Dratch, Jorma Taccone, Shea Whigham, and Oscar Isaac.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is set to be released in theaters on June 2, 2023.

I hope we get some surprise villain appearances. I liked how many showed up in the last film.

Who the hell are these people? And why would I care what they have to say?

@Lokiwasright - My exact reaction whenever the umpteenth article about a Rotten Tomatoes score appears about a movie. I think I'll make up my own mind, thank you very much.

@Lokiwasright - They're like slightly less annoying versions of you. And if you feel no obligation to care about what they have to say, why the fvck are you commenting? Just move it along.

@AmazingFILMporg - Isn’t this where you’re supposed to say early social media reactions are always positive? They probably paid for all this early PR. Consistency is important. BTW, I do expect this to be really good.

@RolandD -

Different circumstances.

For one this film doesn't star a pedophile like the flash so...💁

Secondly, the first film is great so I have all the reason to expect this to follow suit 💁.

And lastly, you have to admit the flash marketing seems fake af🕵️

Random celebs saying it's great.🤡

Random fan screenings and the film isn't even trending.🤡

Releasing ALL the surprises💁

Even the screening at cinemacon didn't get the film to trend😐....

Just no. There is such a thing as too much Spider-Man.

Although I feel the first one was overhyped I did enjoy it. This one looks pretty good too. Sony should really realize this is their lane and not keep trying to create a live action spider-less spider-man spider-verse.

Surely there's a deal with Marvel here just waiting to happen. Take on more animation, give up the live action.

I consider this franchise to not only be genre defining but also a landmark film as far as animation is concerned. My hope is that more comic book movies are adapted into theatrical animated experiences such as this one. Not only does it serve the comic books truthfully it also brings these characters to a larger audience.
The first one is probably the greatest Spider-man and animated film to date, cant wait to see how this one turns out.

This style of animation is annoying and gives me a headache. They're trying too hard to be relevant and "groundbreaking".

If this movie also makes over a billion dollars I can tell you what Sony is going to do to Marvel about the Spiderman property...

The first one was great, but it really feels like Spider-person overload here.

When there are endless versions of a hero, then you dilute what makes the hero special.

I’m sure this will still be good, and I imagine I’ll enjoy it, but I’m looking forward to whenever it is in the future that this multiverse fad is over. I prefer having a singular and definitive version of my heroes.

The comics have been doing Spiderverse stuff for how many years now? And now there’s Venomverse? There are 2 full time Captain Americas, 2 Wolverines, and aren’t those time displaced X-Men from the 60’s still around? It just seems silly and convoluted.

@mountainman - Just a few more years now. The concluding chapter of the Spider-verse trilogy is next year, the Multiverse Saga ends with Secret Wars (which would technically be one world even though it may still be multiversey in style).

DC seem to be attempting to have a cohesive universe, but there's also the Matt Reeves Batman franchise dragging on, so there will be two prominent Batmen competing for the audiences attention.

But apart from those movies, this whole multiverse business should be done in a few years (give or take due to strike action).

mountainman - 5/26/2023, 7:31 AM
@ObserverIO - Yeah I get it. And some multiverse stories can be good. First spiderverse and EEAAO for example. This one might be too. I think I’m just less interested in a T Rex or whatever other Spidermen and just want good charcaters arcs and stories. When I watch this at home eventually, I’ll be more interested in Miles, Peter B, and Gwen (maybe Miguel too) than the countless others.

Between Across The Spider-Verse Part 1 and Insomniac's Spider-Man 2 Game, us Spidey fans are eating good this year (not on the comic end from what I've heard though lol)

im worried about this film. corporations almost never do good things when they find success on a specific product, and this one looks to be kind of overblown to an unnecessary proportion.
