SPIDER-MAN: ACROSS THE SPIDER-VERSE Spoilers: A Beloved SPIDER-MAN Actor Cameos And Teases A Sinister Team

It's easy to miss in the movie, but Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse features a cameo from a beloved supporting actor who quietly sets the stage for a sinister team to assemble in Beyond the Spider-Verse...

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse features too many cameos to count, and it's going to be a lot of fun combing through the sequel once it arrives on Blu-ray.

We're sure you spotted (or heard) the cameos from Spidey voiceover actors like Yuri Lowenthal and Josh Keaton, not to mention surprise live-action appearances by Donald Glover's Prowler and the Venom franchise's Mrs. Chen. However, another iconic Spider-Man supporting character also lends their voice to the movie.

We are, of course, talking about J.K. Simmons' J. Jonah Jameson!

The actor can be briefly seen and heard playing an animated Jonah on Miles Morales' Earth-1610, and like his MCU counterpart, he's a TV shock jock who has nothing good to say about Brooklyn's wall-crawling superhero.

In a more obvious cameo, Simmons' voice is heard when we visit a LEGO Universe, though those lines appear to have been pulled directly from Sam Raimi's Spider-Man movies.

There's more new dialogue at the end of the movie, and it features what could be a huge tease for the sequel. On Earth-42, Miles finds himself face to face with another version of himself (who is The Prowler in his reality) and Jonah can be heard in the background talking about "The Sinister Six Cartel."

Could Earth-42's Miles be a member of that group on a world without a Spider-Man?

"A contender for the best Spider-Man film yet and easily the greatest animated movie ever made," we said in our review, "Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is a jaw-dropping spectacle, a feast for the senses, and an instant Marvel classic."

There's much more to this movie than Easter Eggs, but for Spider-Man fans, everything that plays out on screen is a real dream come true. We're sure more cameos and surprises will be spotted in the weeks ahead, but make sure to keep checking back here as we'll have lots more to share with you in the days ahead.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is now playing in theaters.

So should we now just rebrand this site ComicBookMovieSpoilers.com?

@MyCoolYoung - Then you haven’t been paying attention.

But you at least got one part right. I am the boss.

Gotta say, really good. You'll love every second of it. And the visuals are a huge step up.

Just a warning though, this is very much a part 1 and not conclusive at all. This isn't like infinity war which has a clear ending.

StSteven - 6/3/2023, 5:47 PM
@Origame - Yeah, considering that the GA doesn't know that there's a "Part 2" coming out next year, you kinda think that it would have made more sense to have stuck with the original titles with the "Part 1" and "Part 2" in them so that it's clear that they are a 2 part story. Either that or do a more conclusive ending (like you said like "A: IW" did).

Remember that "A:IW" was going to originally be a "Part 1" and a "Part 2" and then they changed it, which was in retrospect the right move considering how "A: IW" ended AND the fact that "A: EG" takes place 5 years later. But it seems most likely that "SM: BtSV" will pick up right where this one left off given the cliffhanger ending, so it's definitely a "Part 2".

But we'll see how it plays out. Hopefully it will seem like a good move after we're able to watch the next one.

@StSteven - yeah. I just got out of my showing like 2 hours ago, and my theater was pissed with it ending where it did.
StSteven
StSteven - 6/3/2023, 6:05 PM
@Origame - I haven't seen it yet but from everything that I've heard it seems like they originally filmed the whole thing as one long movie and then just picked a spot (pun intended) where they thought it would make a great cliffhanger and sliced it in half there. Done. Roll credits.

Sure, it's going to bring folks back to the theaters for the next part, but I'm pretty sure most if not all of the folks who are seeing this new one would come back for the next one anyway, so no need to have that "OMG someone shot Bobby" ending to get them to come back for the next movie.

*sigh* Ah, well, Sony gonna Sony I guess. At least they're smart enough to have the next one come out in less than a year and not wait 2 or 3 years thinking that's it "building anticipation". Of course, you never know with them...
Origame
Origame - 6/3/2023, 6:22 PM
@StSteven - I'll tell you that's what it feels like.

I'll try not to spoil anything, but imagine the first movie with miles in his new suit going to fight kingpin. But instead of the exciting fight we got instead they give us a big plot twist like kingpin is spider ham's father, then it just ends. That's basically what happened (though the twist was actually pretty cool).
StSteven
StSteven - 6/3/2023, 6:38 PM
@Origame - I know about the twist (I don't mind spoiling myself if I'm not going to be able to see a movie for a while), but I won't say it here for the sake of others. But I get what you're saying and I just don't get why the writers/directors/etc. didn't end it in a more satisfying way, unless they were really wanting that "OMG!" reaction from the audience. Although it sounds like based on your experience it was more of a "WTF?!?" reaction.

Either way, hopefully Sony has the sense to include a "Previously..." recap at the beginning of the next one to remind the audience of where they left off (and hopefully not remind those who were pissed with the ending of this one why they left the theater pissed.)
Rosraf
Rosraf - 6/3/2023, 6:44 PM
@Origame - Yeah. I just left the theater and people were straight pissed with that ending. And I don't blame them. That movie was way to long to not even have an ending.
Origame
Origame - 6/3/2023, 10:15 PM
@Rosraf - yeah. And it's a shame because it's so much better than most of what Hollywood has been throwing at audiences lately.

BB8ANG

The review says it's the greatest animated film of all time, yet its still up in the air if it's better than a live action Spiderman movie??? That doesn't seem right to me.
Origame
Origame - 6/3/2023, 5:00 PM
@BB8ANG - I mean, those are two separate categories. It's like how people might say God of war 2018 was a good game but not a good God of war game. Like there are still things you want and expect from a Spiderman movie.

I watched it a second time today, in Dolby Cinema, which is the only format you should see it on! And I'd say it went fron a 8 to a 9. Dolby is life.. my only minor gripes are the obvious cliffhanger that could have ended 15 minutes earlier.. and

Having Spider-Man Unlimited and Spectacular Spider-Man was cool, but you leave out the master OG Christopher Daniel Barnes?! And it dawned on me, he'll be in the last one with a huge part! Right?......Right?

@bobevanz - We did at least get Spider-Man Unlimited, which is technically the same Spider-Man as the Christopher Daniel Barnes Spider-Man, but with different designs and voice actors.

I want Madame Web to appear in Part II as the weaver of the Web of Life and Destiny. Maybe she is an entity from the Spider-Verse and she sees everything that happens to Miguel, Miles and Spot.

@Repian - Peter is sporting a weird frickin' chin in this frame.
ObserverIO
ObserverIO - 6/4/2023, 5:35 AM
@WhatIfRickJames - He looks like he's weilding it as a weapon. I'm pretty sure he's gonna attack her with it. Or [frick] her with it. Either way, he's ready to thrust that chin.
IronDean2099
IronDean2099 - 6/4/2023, 6:06 AM
@Repian - I'm thinking it will be revealed that Miguel is misguided and the Spider Society aren't actually the top of the multiverse food chain or whatever, and there's actually an even higher power monitoring and guiding the multiverse. That's where they could bring in Madame Web, or maybe (very doubtfully) even the TVA.

@cubrn - The others who try to contribute including any of us always have our articles deleted by Mark or Josh who always claim that they had the idea first except they had it in the queue.

They deleted so many articles that the rest of us gave up years ago trying to contribute.
