SPIDER-MAN: INTO THE SPIDERVERSE Finds Its Peter Parker In NEW GIRL Actor Jake Johnson

Many Marvel fans assumed that Sony would simply have Tom Holland voice Peter Parker in their Miles Morales-led Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse animated feature, but it appears that's not the case.

Executive producers Phil Lord (who also wrote the script) and Chris Miller previously confirmed that the Peter Parker appearing in their animated film will be middle-aged and looking to pass the torch to Miles Morales.

In that regard, it makes sense that someone older than Tom Holland would be voicing the character.

With new CinemaCon footage screening last night, multiple reports are confirming that New Girl actor Jake Johnson is voicing Peter Parker in the film.  It was previously rumored (and quickly debunked) that A Quiet Place's John Krasinski would be voicing Peter.

Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse is currently scheduled to arrive in theaters on December 14, 2018, where it will compete with WB's Aquaman at the box office.

That's honestly pretty great casting for an adult Peter Parker, I love Johnson I think he's so underrated (and was by far the best thing in that Mummy reboot).

I'm also really interested in INTO THE SPIDERVERSE, I didn't think I would be into a cinematic animated film from Marvel but I adore Miles Morales and the style and visuals of that teaser really worked for me.

@MNLawyer - I'm wondering how connected to this will the movie be? I thought the comic was all about a group of dimension-hopping vampires were killing the spidermen. They say this one has Ultimate Goblin, Kingpin, and Prowler (which I understand because of Miles). Why these of NYC level villains?

I still don't know where I stand on this film.

The animation is a little strange looking in the trailer to mr. Like they're going for "the Lego Movie" meets Pixar. And the story seems forced given what's going on with the character getting introduced in the MCU

Should be fun either way I suppose, no such thing as bad Spider-Man.

@xfan320 - I agree on the story feeling forced. How are they going to carry the story with Miles when it was even about him in the comics? This looks like his own origin story instead of a whole Spidey-verse story.

However, the animation looks beautiful to me! I hate to agree with the lego movie comparison because I didn't care for it but I like the texture of the legos pieces and this does have that bright Pixar mixed with the weight of the legos.

And yes even Spiderman 3 had its fun moments!

I expected The Jackal and The clones of Peter as the villains of the movie.

My son is going to be all over this movie, all he does is run around the house and pretend to shoot spider webs at everyone.
