Obsessed With Film reports that Drew McWeeny was a guest speaker for The Loop segment of “Attack of the Show” yesterday and revealed that he had a brief telephone conversation with Matthew Vaughn (the director of "Stardust" and upcoming "Kick-Ass").

Vaughn has revelead that he's "desperate to get his hands on Spider-man". So, now it's only on Sony's hands to contact this great director!

To Vaughn is the second time that he can direct a Marvel Movie. In 2006 he was chose by Fox to replace Bryan Singer for "X-Men: Last Stand" but, before the start of shooting, he has leaves. In 2007 he was chose to direct "Thor" movie but he leaves and Kenneth Branagh replace him.

Vaughn has try also to direct a Dc's Superman's reboot with never success.

I didn't know he was set to direct X3 and Thor. He might have a good chance to direct the new reboot since Sony wants it to be gritty. Vaughn's good at gritty.

I like Vaughn but my vote is for Whedon, I would love to see a Joss Whedon Spider-man movie and he is already familiar with the marvel universe with his run on Astonishing X-Men, and he knows gritty and funny since he created/directed/wrote Buffy/Angel, Xander is Spidey with all his wise cracks.

Xander: Uh, that's Rodney Munson. He's God's gift to the bell curve. What he lacks in smarts he makes up in lack of smarts.

Willow: You just don't like him 'cause of that time he beat you up every day for five years.

Xander: Yeah. I'm irrational that way.

you can't say that doesn't sound like something spidey would say.

Holy Shit! I was just saying in another article how it would be great if young Parker had to endure the hardships of a fledgling super hero and the grittiness of it, specifically clumsily adjusting to his physical prowess and struggling to handle simple purse-snatching thugs while learning the trade of super-heroism. I say if Vaughn actually wants to do it, there really wouldn't be a better option. This is a nerdgasm for me!

all the spiderman movies were shit. Raimi is a TERRIBLE director. Stupid camera angles and even worse dialogue. Just a poor poor poor POOR choice for the franchise. I still enjoy watching them but please don't put them or raimi on a pedistal.

@Divo@ if it wasn't for Raimi's Spider-man movies then comic movies wouldn't be what they are today... the first Spidey movie proved that these things can be done and done right

Man, Matthew Vaughn really wants to direct a premier Superhero movie. He has put his name out there a few times already. It either very cool or very scary! Maybe both

Vaughn, Whedon, Smith, why split hairs? They'd all be awesome!!! Hell, even McTeigue or Abrams :))

Not Cameron though... or anyone not wanting to make an accurate adaptation.

I still want James Cameron to direct because he's James-freakin-Cameron! He directed hits such as Titanic, Terminator 2, and Avatar.

Yeah, Why not? Vaughn seems so enthusiastic about directing superhero films anyway. I say let him. I just hope that he has alot of knowledge about the spidey comics and how he can bring that to the big screen

If he's enthused about doing it, then why the hell not? Jon Favreau managed to wow all of us with Iron Man. Maybe this is Vaughn's chance to do so with Spidey. :)

I think a Re-Boot of a 10 year old franchise is asinine. The money grubbers in Hollywood should just let it lie. I enjoyed the first two movies, the third was a bit of a steamer, but all in all Spider-man got a pretty good series. Just let it go and move on, re-boot for a new generation, that's about 25 years after the trilogy finale.

He also wants to do the Avengers. But I thik he'd make a good Spidey drector, I didn't care much for Stardust but Kick-Ass looks to be amazing and if he is enthusiastic about the character then by all means.

Interesting, Vaughn could potentially make a great spider man film. I'd probably feel more comfortable with a different director. Though I wouldn't complain if he got it.

I'm with Osiris. Joss Whedon would be an interesting choice to direct the Spidey franchise. He's already shown that he can handle comic characters with the respect that their fans want to see.

In fairness, I haven't seen anything Vaughn directed to have a fair opinion of his directing skills one way or the other. I may go see this Kick Ass film despite being unfamiliar with the book to get a feel for his style.

I just don't want to see a "name" director like James Cameron do the movie, because I really worry about him amping up the "love interest" aspects of the storyline. I feel I need to keep reminding people: this is the guy that inflicted Titanic on the world. I also know that "name" directors are a lot more likely to want to do Spidey "their" way, instead of following the library of great source material that is out there, just waiting to be turned into films.

LEE@ What? You really want Raimi to do another Spidey movie? I don't care about whatever happened with spidey 3. I do believe that Raimi is a great director, but he never got spider-man right.

I don't have to go through all the things that are off about his interpretation of Spider-man. You know all of them.

But I agree that a reboot so soon sounds real bad.

The only way I would want them to reboot Spidey is if Marvel was doing it. and I want more of a Hulk style reboot. I don't like the idea taking steps backwards.

they need to get a great writer to pepper the movie with spiderman characters like the new hulk, and agree on villains and story. then get a director then cast then film. just give it back to marvel they make the comics thats were it can become great in their hands.
