Last month's extended trailer for Sony Pictures' Morbius seemed to bring a few more people on board after the mostly negative reaction to the first teaser, and a new still from the movie has now been shared online via @JaredLetoNews.
The image finds Doctor Michael Morbius (Jared Leto) sitting down for a chat with his assistant and eventual love interest, Martine Bancroft (Adria Arjona).
In the comics, Bancroft was the good doctor's long-time ally and lover, who stayed by his side after his transformation and desperately sought a cure for his condition. She would eventually become a "True Vampire" herself, and Morbius was ultimately forced to destroy her in order to prevent her from biting Spider-Man.
The movie may take Bancroft down a very different route, of course, but it will be interesting to see if there's any set-up for future stories involving the character.
"One of Marvel's most compelling and conflicted characters comes to the big screen as Oscar winner Jared Leto transforms into the enigmatic antihero Michael Morbius. Dangerously ill with a rare blood disorder and determined to save others suffering his same fate, Dr. Morbius attempts a desperate gamble. While at first it seems to be a radical success, a darkness inside him is unleashed. Will good override evil - or will Morbius succumb to his mysterious new urges?"
The cast of Morbius also includes Matt Smith, Jared Harris, Al Madrigal,Tyrese Gibson, and Michael Keaton. The movie will arrive exclusively in theaters on January 28, 2022.
