While there are a few things we know about Spider-Man 3, there's still a whole lot more we don't, with the biggest unknown variable being, of course, whether Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield will reprise their Spidey roles from previous incarnations of the blockbuster franchise as Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures potentially set the stage for a live-action Spider-Verse.
Speaking with Variety on their Awards Circuit podcast, Tom Holland (Avengers: Endgame; Spider-Man: Far From Home) has been dropping tease after tease about his upcoming Spidey sequel, and when initially asked about his past experiences with previous Spidey actors, he enthusiastically recalled the few times he's crossed paths with Maguire and Garfield.
“I never met Kirsten Dunst. I've met Andrew once, I met him [at] the BAFTA, and he was lovely. We had a good chat and it was quite soon after Spider-Man: Homecoming had come out. He's really positive and nice. I bumped into Tobey a few times from different parties in LA, and he was also really nice. They seem to be lovely, really nice people. And um, I hope they enjoy our movie, I hope they enjoy my Spider-Man.”
As for those rumors about whether those two - along with Kirsten Dunst, Emma Stone and possibly Charlie Cox as Daredevil - will actually return for the upcoming Spidey sequel, Holland remained coy, “Beats me, I don't know. If they are, they never told me." When Variety joked about how the two may just randomly appear, Holland still didn't tip his hand, replying joyfully, "That would be something Marvel would do. I'd watch that film.”
In addition to Holland as the headliner, the confirmed supporting cast will consist of Zendaya as MJ, Jacob Batalon as Ned Leeds, Marisa Tomei as Aunt May, Tony Revolori as Flash Thompson, J.K. Simmons as J. Jonah Jameson and Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange; with Jamie Foxx and Alfred Molina reprising their roles as Electro and Doctor Octopus, respectively, from the earlier Spider-Man films.
Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures' Untitled Spider-Man sequel is tentatively scheduled to swing into theaters worldwide on December 17.
