We learned yesterday that Spider-Man: No Way Home will be released in China, and tha news been followed by a TV spot which, for the most part, recycles footage from the teaser trailer. There are a few noteworthy snippets, though, including some new dialogue from Benedict Cumberbatch's Doctor Strange as he asks Peter Parker, "You ready?" before casting his spell.
The teenager responds, "Whoa, whoa, whoa, hang on!"" and it's at that point we see everything go wrong. Loki revealed the rebirth of the Multiverse, and that could be partly to blame for the Sorcerer Supreme's spell - which is supposed to make the world forget Spider-Man is Peter Parker - going wrong.
That's it for new dialogue, but a fresh shot of Spidey falling through the Mirror Dimension shows that the web-slinger is holding the box we saw Strange attempt to retrieve from him in the trailer.
There's been speculation that this artefact will be Spider-Man: No Way Home's MacGuffin, and potentially where Strange traps the villains from other Spider-Man franchises before Peter chooses to free them. We still don't know why he does that or how the spell could possibly bring these Variants into the MCU.
"For the first time in the cinematic history of Spider-Man, our friendly neighborhood hero is unmasked and no longer able to separate his normal life from the high-stakes of being a Super Hero," reads the movie's synopsis. "When he asks for help from Doctor Strange the stakes become even more dangerous, forcing him to discover what it truly means to be Spider-Man."
Among the film's confirmed cast members are Tom Holland, Zendaya, Benedict Cumberbatch, Jon Favreau, Jacob Batalon, Marisa Tomei, J. B. Smoove, Benedict Wong, Alfred Molina, and Jamie Foxx.
Spider-Man: No Way Home arrives in U.S. and UK theaters on December 17.
