SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME Producer Comments On Rumors Tom Hardy's Venom Will Appear In The Film

Spider-Man: No Way Home producer Amy Pascal has commented briefly on rumors that Tom Hardy's Eddie Brock/Venom could appear in the Marvel Studios threequel, but appears to be choosing her words carefully!

Venom: Let There Be Carnage's mid-credits scene brought Tom Hardy's Eddie Brock into the Marvel Cinematic Universe (or a world very much like it). With that, the stage has been set for Venom to battle Spider-Man on the big screen for the first time since 2007's Spider-Man 3

What many fans would like to know is whether that will happen in Spider-Man: No Way Home. With the likes of Doctor Octopus and Electro returning, there could quite easily be room to have Venom join them, though if that is the plan, we're a tad surprised it hasn't factored into the film's marketing at all. Of course, that could change with the second trailer as the villains are expected to be highlighted.

Talking to Empire (via CBR), Sony's Spider-Man Universe producer Amy Pascal played coy on the chances of that happening. "You know I'll never tell you that," she said before reflecting on the stinger we know Sony and Marvel Studios collaborated on. "But it was a lot of fun to do, and we love Tom Hardy."

It feels a lot like she's teasing us with that response, and we'd be shocked if Venom's presence isn't felt in a post-credits scene at the very least.

When ComicBookMovie.com's Josh Wilding spoke to Venom: Let There Be Carnage director Andy Serkis about a possible Spider-Man crossover, the filmmaker responded: "Who knows? We’ll have to wait and see. I think if and when it does happen, it will land at the right time, as a result, by not rushing into it."

We never expected to see Venom in the MCU, but if anyone can make it work, then it's Kevin Feige.

Doing Venom vs Spider-man again in the way that they are doing it feels like doing the Dark Phoenix saga a second time and still not getting the results you expected.

@JFerguson - It's like if they did the Dark Phoenix Saga with none of the build up to Jean turning evil.

Oh wait, they did that twice already...
JFerguson

@CorndogBurglar - honestly Simon Kinberg was the worst out of these non-comic-reading execs. Fumbled twice and still stood by his own failures. Truly clueless man.

At least Pascal finally admitted she was out of ideas for Spidey in that new MCU book

CorndogBurglar - 10/29/2021, 8:17 AM
@JFerguson - Yeah, I agree. For Kinberg to basically make all the same mistakes a second time was ridiculous.

I will say that I thoroughly enjoyed the fight at the end on the train in Dark Phoenix. But thats about it. And he did at least make the Phoenix Force an entity from space.

But you just can't stuff that story into an hour and a half - 2 hour movie. It really needs its own trilogy. 1 for Jean getting the Phoenix abilities. 2 for Jean just being Phoenix. And 3 for her turning evil. And, honestly, in my opinion, ideally they should have a whole trilogy of Jean just having the Phoenix Force. Most people forget how long she really had those powers before she turned evil.

I don't know. I hope they stay away from the Phoenix in the MCU. And if not, then she needs to get it early on, and have for a good long while before having her turn.

I feel like a world where Venom comes before Kraven makes Kraven far less threatning, but the right writer could update the Kraven mythos and make this work. Michael Irby (from Mayans) for my pick as the formidable foe.

@VictorAlonzo - Why, though? Kraven is far from a slouch and has almost killed Spidey just as many times as Venom, if not more.

He's also responsible for one of Spider-Man's most memorable, and important storylines with Kraven's Last Hunt. None of his dealings with Venom have had anywhere near that kind of impact.

@VictorAlonzo - Kraven is just a dude in furs, one of the most boring choices.

@CorndogBurglar - one reason alone: Venom doesn't trigger Spider-sense.
Dacci
Dacci - 10/29/2021, 9:08 AM
@VictorAlonzo - I could see Sony doing a Kraven's last hunt movie, where Kraven actually hunts Venom with Spidey torn in the middle. It would delve into the whole do hero's kill trope, and Peter having to figure out if he should save Venom, or let Kraven kill him.

VictorAlonzo - 10/29/2021, 9:14 AM
@CandidOpinion - He is if they write him as such. For the love of comics, I hope they don't go "MAR$NEY"© (calling it) on us and make Kraven a Jack Black comedic tarzan type. As I mentioned with "breaded weeny pilfer" above, Kraven CAN trigger spider-senses where Venom cannot. If Kraven comes after Venom in the Spider-verse, they have to up the ante to make him a credible threat in a post-symbiotie world. I know it is possible, but they need the right writer to pull it off. If done right, Kraven could be as great as he was in the 80s. I have a few ideas, like give him the mark of Cain and/or make him Esau the immortal: the greatest hunter in history. They knda revamped his MO and rebranded him into Morlun, but I want Kraven more than Morlun. "The Other" story had me fully invested at the time, but the tradegy that follwed still stings ...TO THIS DAY.

@VictorAlonzo - I don't see any reason in this universe why Venom has to be written to not trigger the peter tingle. The symbiote was never attached to Peter in any way.

Honestly, this is just symptomatic of the whole issue with squaring Spidey and this Venom up against each other. Neither Brock nor the symbiote have reason to HATE Peter. It's from that hate that Venom is born. Take that away and it's probably just another first they fight, then they team-up story.

@CandidOpinion - Say you don't know anything about Kraven without saying you don't know anything about Kraven.
CorndogBurglar
CorndogBurglar - 10/29/2021, 11:05 AM
@VictorAlonzo - Not triggering his Spider Sense, while a good power, doesn't make him unstoppable by any means.
VictorAlonzo
VictorAlonzo - 10/29/2021, 4:43 PM
@CorndogBurglar - I didn't say it made him unstoppable. It does make him far more threatning than the average Spider-man enemy. I remember thinking how bad this was for Peter at the time. Venom was a stalker, bully, and strategist. He felt like a nightmare.

With all these villains appearing, I'm starting to think they'll only have ten minutes screen time max just to fit them all in.
bkmeijer2
bkmeijer2 - 10/29/2021, 6:40 AM
@TheDpool - Civil War and Infinity War had a lot of characters too and gave them all the spotlight in one way or another. And since it's Marvel Studios again, I am a little bit more trusting
Slotherin
Slotherin - 10/30/2021, 4:47 PM
@TheDpool - I doubt Lizard will have a large role. His motives for being villainous don't really equate with playing well with others. Though I suppose it's not impossible for getting home to be enough of a common motivator for the different villains.

With that Venom post-credit scene, I think it would be odd not to have him atleast be mentioned

If they were really fans of the comics or if they really cared about the fans (in Amy’s case) they would’ve done Venom vs Spidey the right thing way. They could’ve built it up nicely over multiple movies and got the storyline right. Having venom vs Spidey in Venom 3 is going to be so silly. Then what?
VictorAlonzo
VictorAlonzo - 10/29/2021, 9:18 AM
@Frshcoupe - The above comment is comic reader hive mind thought. I only hope Kevin fought hard to shake the stupidity at Sony. Both Venom and Spider-Man desrved a better story. The fact Peter went to space make it allthemore frustrating.

It would be interesting to see Eddie Brock at a new stage in his life. The symbiote joins Peter and Eddie is alone in an unknown universe. So he's a bearded homeless who hears voices. A decadent Eddie.

@Repian - interesting, but it should make him hate the symibote, not Peter.
