Rhys Ifans IS The Lizard in Spider-Man Reboot

Many believed it, but now The Wrap has learned that Rhys Ifans will be portraying none other than the Lizard in Sony's Spider-man reboot. Check it Out!

Yesterday, Sony announced Welsh actor & musician Rhys Ifans as the latest star to join the upcoming 3D Spider-Man reboot. And while the role was undisclosed, The Wrap has learned that...

"Rhys Ifans will play Dr. Curt Connors, better known as The Lizard, in Marc Webb's "Spider-Man" reboot"

While Phillip Seymour Hoffman was rumored for Eddie Brock, Venom, the Wraps' source says that the character would not be appearing in this film, but could show up in sequels. As many know, Secretariat actor Dylan Baker portrayed Dr. Curt Connors in Sam Raimi's trilogy, but evidently never got the opportunity to show the character's true colors; or scales in this case.

Anyhow, Ifans starring alongside Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone, Spidey returns to theaters July 3, 2012 in 3D.

We deserve it. There was such a pay off coming up with the epic build up for the trilogy.
Rhys Ifans should do fine -- change up his current look and you have Connors.

I like this choice! :)

lol I knew it!
I just hope they do it right lol. But only one villain is bad, bring Electro too or Chameleon like @conformist said

Awesome find @DCMF!

I'll believe it when Sony make it official. Why? Because there is nothing about this guy that makes me think of Curt Connors. Plus, I happen to think that the Lizard would make for one lame ass villain unless you add in someone else as well. I know some sites were speculating that Ifans might play the Ultimate version of Kraven...now that would have been interesting! Great find anyway DCMF! :)

IF (big if) this is true, meh...

It would be kind of a weird casting choice, and the Lizard definitely wouldn't be my choice for a villain in the first movie.
I would go with Electro/Chameleon, myself.

This could work, but they're going to need another villain in there somewhere. Kraven would be a good fit.

I agree with you JoshW

The Lizard, alone would be kind of lame. A three way fight scene between Spidey, The Lizard and Kraven would be pretty amazing tho. I just don't like the whole Lizard idea for the first movie.

Depends on the storyline...

If this going to be the "I'm going to make everyone like me" take on the Lizard, we may finally get a chance to see Spidey fight multiple henchmen.

It would be sick if they had Kraven's Last Hunt in the film. Bummer :/

Phillip Seymour Hoffman is not Eddie Brock...I think he is a good actor, but they need someone else for that role....Rhys Ifans is talented. I could see him pulling off The Lizard. Hopefully we will finally get some freaking Lizard action in this movie. They teased us for the last 3 movies...

coolguy - 10/13/2010, 4:33 PM
Idk about this the guy is a good actor but I've never seen him in a serios role, maybe he can pull it off.

Does anyone else feel that Phillip Seymour Hoffman is way too old to play Edddie Brock and I don't see him taking on the role.

ForceOfLegend - 10/13/2010, 4:36 PM
Hopefully he will be playing Deadshot. I really don't want Mark Millar to be right about anything...I might die a little inside...

Having read the original article this info came from, it does sound like it'll definitely be the Lizard. He's never been one of my favourite villains so I'm not sure how to feel about this...I suppose it could be interesting although I would have been much happier with Electro, Scorpion or a better version of the Green Goblin. I suppose it will all depend on which interpretation of the character they go for.
ForceOfLegend
ForceOfLegend - 10/13/2010, 4:46 PM
I think The Lizard would be better if they also had Kraven in there. It would be interesting for Peter to have to fight both. While trying to save his friend...

I love the original movies, but hopefully Webb focusues less on Peter crying and also I'd like to see the villains we have already seen especially Goblin but I feel tha the actors who played them pretty much made them their own(much like heath ledgers joker) and IDK if any future interpretations could live up to them.

I am of course referring to DaFoe and Molina.
Grace and Church would have been great with more screentime but instead they focused on the Goblin which would have been cool if he would have just had a green goblin or hobgoblin costume.

And who says Hardy is playing a villain?

soberchimera - 10/13/2010, 5:07 PM
The Lizard is long overdue, he should've been in Spider-Man 2 and I'm still pissed off that he wasn't in Spidey 3. Although this isn't really a villainous role for Ifans. Doc Connors is just a nice guy who didn't get his calculations right.

So wait... we're getting The Lizard in the Spider-Man reboot, and Killer Croc in the new Batman film. And both movies are set to come out in 2012? Does anyone else find this funny? Nolan better start looking for another villain.

Smart choice going with "Lizard." This should give the movie a much needed edge because "Lizard" is obviously a monster not a criminal. Also, Doc Connors is a sympathetic character.

Hopefully they won't overcrowd this movie with too many villains like they did in "Spidey-3." I like having one villain because the writer(s) can better focus on character development which makes for a more compelling villain. Fingers crossed.
