We may have gotten a new Spider-Man movie this summer with the amazing Across the Spider-Verse, but it’s still been far too long since we last saw the web-slinger in live-action. It’s been two years since Spider-Man: No Way Home broke box office records, but a combination of Tom Holland wanting a break and this year’s strikes have inevitably led to Spider-Man 4 being delayed.
There have been rumblings about what’s to come in the movie for a while; thus far, the most popular rumour is that Spider-Man and Daredevil will team up to battle the Kingpin of Crime, Wilson Fisk.
Today, scooper Daniel Richtman is reporting that Charlie Cox’s Man Without Fear will indeed have a sizeable role in Spider-Man 4 (at least in the current iteration of the script, anyway). ‘Ol hornhead won’t be alone, though, as it's said that Marvel Studios is considering adding Paul Rudd’s Ant-Man to the mix as well.
Now that’s a trio we’d love to see share the screen! Given Scott Lang's history with getting into trouble with the law and his history as a vigilante, perhaps he also chooses to stand up to Mayor Fisk?
As with any rumour, we'd advise taking this with a pinch of salt. It's become the norm for key MCU characters to appear in these Spider-Man movies, and while Daredevil is a big deal, Ant-Man will likely be even more attractive to Sony execs. It's also a chance for Marvel Studios to rehab the hero after Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania.
"All I can say is that we have been actively engaging in conversations about what it could potentially look like for a fourth rendition of my character," Holland recently said of his possible MCU return. "Whether or not we can find a way to do justice to the character is another thing."
"I feel very protective over Spider-Man. I feel very, very lucky that we were able to work on a franchise that got better with each movie, that got more successful with each movie, which I think is really rare, and I want to protect his legacy," the actor continued. "So, I won’t make another one for the sake of making another one. It will have to be worth the while of the character. If we can figure that out, I would be a fool not to put the suit back on again because I owe everything to Spider-Man."
"I love the character and the people I get to work with. So, I would love to tell another story, but I'll only tell it if we can find the right one."
Spider-Man 4 doesn't currently have a confirmed release date.
