He's a good actor and I remember everybody seemed to favour him back when the casting was happening. But I think Holland has since proved he was the right one for the role.

Holland is a perfect fit for Parker and Butterfield is great in Sex Ed so I guess it worked out great for both.

He was actually my pick when all the rumors were going around but I’m really glad we ended up with Tom.

"And so in the case of Spider-Man, I did Sex Ed, because I wouldn’t have been able to do both of those at the same time."

Dude would drop Sex Ed in a heartbeat, if it meant to be able to play Spider-Man. I remember I think he actually got the role, then blabbered about it, so Marvel took it back. Little I've seen of Asa, I wasn't impressed.

So glad we got Holland.

@KWilly - he did blab about it yup. He had the role on his hands, they had pretty much given it to him.

Tom was infinitely better.

Asa wouldn’t have been a good choice if they were going for the more “childlike awe” version of Peter we got in the movie. Asa’s characters tend to have this “mature for their age” thing going on.

Cast him as Harry

@Origame - not the harry i was thinking about, but if they ever want to revisit harry potter and daniel radcliff isnt up for it he probably would be a good runner up

I'll be honest; I wouldn't have minded seeing Asa in the role purely because I'm curious what he'd look like bulked up/on the obligatory Marvel regimen.

Word is he ran his mouth around town that’s how he lost it.

Griffin Newman has told the story a few times on Blank Check. The role was Asa’s, he literally HAD IT. Feige wanted him and convinced Sony he was right for it despite them loving Holland. He had a great test with RDJ too like Holland. And then he blabbed about it to everyone he knew after his last reading and Marvel saw that he couldn’t keep his mouth shut.

I was rooting for him, but I'm glad we ended up with Tom Holland

I think Asa would've been a better Spiderman if they had went for a darker, edgier take. As it is, Holland was a perfect fit. I really do like him as Peter Parker, I just don't like the cast around him, with the exception of Keaton/Gyllenhaal, the highlights of both films.
