The contest will lead up to the first ever live show of everyone’s favorite Marvel Superhero – “Spider-man” presented by Disney XD helping fans and families top up this holiday season.

Said Srikanth Sarathy, Director, Marketing, WDTVI, “We are very excited to offer this exclusive opportunity presented by Disney XD to all Spider-man fans. This will be the first ever live show by Marvel Spider-man in India and starting this week all the way through December 15, 2010, there will be a whole lot of excitement on the channel including all time favorite Marvel Spider-man episodes on Disney XD’s Superhero block -- Heroes at 5.”

While Spider-man is busy making plans to come and meet his fans in India, Spidey villains --- Electro and Black Cat the most infamous and dangerous villains ever known, are trying to stop him from coming here. Spider-man is going to need all the help from his India fans to stop them. Starting this week, kids must help Spider-man come to India by looking out for these evil Spidey villains on Disney XD. Only quick reflexes can help Spider-man save the day and get him safely to India. Every time they spot one of these villains on Disney XD, kids have to call/SMS the code seen on the screen. The luckiest kid with the highest score along with his/her family will get a chance to win a memorable experience of meeting Spider-man in person!

Kids can tune in to Disney XD and also win really cool Spider-man Merchandise everyday! With over 1001 cool prizes up for grabs, ranging from Spider-man Keyboards to Spider-man Mouse Pads, Spider-man Bags to Spider-man Sippers, Spider-man Notepads and more; things never really got this exciting! So get set for some web slinging action with everyone’s favourite friendly neighborhood web-crawling Spider-man. Coming soon to a city near you!

Why is that fair? Spider-man is the biggest comicbook icon from marvel, and stands alongside batman and superman among all time favorites. They are american yes but the values and ideals they represent transcend nationality. Im an Indian and the first time i saw the spider-man cartoon was when i was 6 months old, and i have been into comics ever since. That is the spider-man i would like to meet/see if i ever do get the chance.. and not some localized sellout variant.

The preaching aside, disney know their business. Though they will probably end up hiring an Indian guy to put on the suit and do some poses for 2 dollars an hour.

I'm still trying to figure out why the image on the link to this article is of the 1970's TV Spidey??? (Still one of my faves!)
