SPIDER-MAN Star Tom Holland & DUNE's Timothée Chalamet In Line To Play WONKA In Upcoming Prequel

Warner Bros. is officially moving forward with its Charlie & the Chocolate Factory prequel movie, and it's being reported that both Tom Holland and Timothée Chalamet are in contention to play the lead.

We first heard about Warner Bros.' plans for a Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory reboot back in 2019, and the studio has now officially given the green light to the project, which still has Paddington helmer Paul King on board to direct.

Wonka, which has been confirmed to be a prequel to Roald Dahl's classic children's book, has been given a March 17, 2023 release date, and will focus on the early life of the eccentric chocolatier.

While Ezra Miller (Justice League), Ryan Gosling (Blade Runner 2049) and Donald Glover (Solo: A Star Wars Story) were originally said to be on the studio's radar to play the lead, Collider is now reporting that WB "has its eye" on either Tom Holland (Spider-Man: Far From Home) or Timothée Chalamet (Dune) for the role.

Though neither actor is said to be "actively pursuing this part," it sounds like the studio is keen to get one of them to sign on for what could well become a new franchise.

Wonka is being developed from a script by Simon Rich (An American Pickle), with David Heyman (the Harry Potter movies) set to produce. Production is expected to kick-off within the next four months.

This is why WB will never be successful. Neither of these are Joel Kinnaman types or even Allison Brie types. Movie's bound to fail

@MyCoolYoung - but they already have what no other franchise have, the real Joel Kinnaman. Allison Brie should have been Harley Quinn

@MyCoolYoung - Chalamet is a Tom Holland-type.

Remember, both of them auditioned for Peter Parker too, but sadly Tom Holland was more Tom Holland-type than Chalamet.

@Jordanstine - which is weird. I've always thought Chalamet was more Tom Holland than Holland

@dracula - see sir, that's your problem. You're thinking too far in the box and the studios think outside the box.
They get Joel Kinnaman types, never Joel Kinnaman.

Everything gets a prequel and everything gets a sequel and everyone gets an origin story.

@KingLeonidas - you missed the 300 prequel they're working on. It's all about the messenger guy and how he deals with his fear of being kicked into bottomless pits.

@KingLeonidas -
Maybe it is a good thing that the cinema industry and hollywood are dying. Hopefully will mean these sort of projects are not greenlit in future. Taking risks is fine, but this is not something anyone is really asking for.

@Scarilian - really? It's fine if this industry we like dies because no movies means no bad movies? This is like rooting for Thanos to kill everyone because then those a holes cutting you off on the highway will be gone too.

I'm actually okay with this, rather than remaking it telling a new tale in the same universe. I'm absolutely supporting that rather than any reboot.

@BlackBeltJones

Paul King. A pretty hot commodity at the moment.

Movie doesn’t sound good on paper but his involvement is hype material.

I really hope neither of these talented upcoming actors ends up staining their career with this awful sounding project. They both deserve better than this.

Id be fine with the both of them but Tom Holland is really hogging all those boy-ish young white male roles isnt he XD
