If you happen to go to the Famous Players theater in Prince George, British Columbia, you may spot a very unique advertisement for Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
The theater didn't receive any official marketing material for the movie ahead of its release, so employee Drake Landon decided to take matters into his own hands by displaying a hand-drawn poster featuring "Spooder-Man" in all his glory.
The artwork includes the deliberately misspelled explanation: “Sorry! We never recieved the real posters! Sorry for any inconviniences!”
“It’s crazy that my art has gone that far for something so simple,” Landon tells THR. "The inspiration for it was the ‘Spooder-man’ meme that was popular around in the 2010s.”
Michelle Saba, VP of communications for Cineplex, owner of Famous Players, added. “Our team did have a little fun as they awaited the arrival of their Spider-Man: Brand New Day poster."
Brand New Day continues to dominate the box office, having now earned the best-ever domestic haul for a Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. It is also the second-fastest film to reach the $1 billion milestone globally, and scored the third-best second weekend ever worldwide.
Following the record-breaking success of Spider-Man: No Way Home, Spider-Man: Brand New Day begins a brand new chapter for Peter Parker and Spider-Man. Four years have passed since the events of No Way Home, and Peter is now an adult and living alone after erasing himself and the memories of him from those he loves. In a New York that no longer knows his name, he has devoted himself wholeheartedly to protecting his city as Spider-Man full-time.
But as the demands on him grow, he is put under increasing pressure. This triggers an unexpected physical change that threatens his existence, while a strange wave of crime emerges - and gives rise to one of the most dangerous threats he has ever faced.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and written by Chris McKenna & Erik Sommers. The film is produced by Kevin Feige, Amy Pascal, Avi Arad and Rachel O'Connor. The cast includes Tom Holland, Zendaya, Sadie, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, Tramell Tillman, Michael Mando and Mark Ruffalo.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is now in theaters, and on track to gross $2 billion at the worldwide box office.
