Destin Daniel Cretton Talks SPIDER-MAN: BRAND NEW DAY Trailer; Responds To Claims Marvel Snubbed WONDER MAN

Filmmaker Destin Daniel Cretton has addressed the long wait for the first Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer and hits back at claims that Wonder Man was overlooked by Marvel Studios.

By JoshWilding - Feb 13, 2026 07:02 AM EST

Filmmaker Destin Daniel Cretton first joined the MCU with 2021's Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. While he was briefly attached to Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, Cretton developed Wonder Man for Marvel Television and has since helmed Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

There's a huge amount of excitement surrounding the wall-crawler's return to theaters, with fans growing increasingly impatient when it comes to the lengthy wait for a trailer.

It appears Sony Pictures is following the blueprint used for Spider-Man: No Way Home; we didn't get a first look at that movie until four months before it finally hit the big screen in December 2021. That's plenty of time to build excitement, especially after a leaked teaser and some recent promo art reveals.

In the video below, Cretton was asked about Spider-Man: Brand New Day's Super Bowl absence and responded, "I think it's so funny how people really want a trailer. Of course it's gonna come. It's gonna be really good when it comes. It's coming."

This isn't the only marketing grumble we've heard in recent weeks, as some fans have accused Marvel Studios of dumping Wonder Man on Disney+ with little fanfare. In reality, the series was given a far more robust push than many MCU series; the main difference was that all episodes were released on the same day.

Talking to Majic 102.1, Cretton addressed the backlash when he said, "If Marvel didn’t care about this show, it wouldn’t be out in the world at all. And it definitely would not be out in the world in the form that it is. I am very happy to see that people are loving the show for the same reasons we do, because it’s different. It’s a bit of a big swing for Marvel to take. And I can’t say it was a struggle to make."

"Everybody from Kevin on down really loved the tone of the show and loved that it was different, and loved pushing limits. And everybody here loves movies, and that’s what the show is really about," he continued. "So yeah, the internet likes to make up stories and narratives. But I love the passion behind it because people just love the show and want more people to see it. So I’m all for that."

Ultimately, Wonder Man worked better as a binge release, even if it meant sacrificing the weekly buzz that surrounds a traditional release. We learned yesterday that Spider-Noir is also dropping its entire 8-episode debut season on the same day.

As noted, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings helmer Destin Daniel Cretton directs Spider-Man: Brand New Day from a script by returning Spider-Man franchise writers Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers.

Tom Holland plays Spider-Man in a cast that also includes Jon Bernthal (The Punisher), Mark Ruffalo (The Hulk), Zendaya (MJ), Sadie Sink, Michael Mando (The Scorpion), Tramell Tillman, Marvin Jones III (Tombstone), Jacob Batalon (Ned Leeds), and Liza Colón-Zayas. Avengers: Doomsday star Florence Pugh is expected to reprise her Thunderbolts* role as Yelena Belova.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day will be released in theaters on July 31, 2026.

The fact that all 20 people who saw Wonder Man gave it great reviews doesn't mean that hardly anyone cared about it. Viewership for it will probably be even less than Ironheart and Echo. They didn't make it because anyone in fandom demanded it.

Assuming you can put together a coherent sentence, what did I say that you refute?

@DocSpock - Well, let's start from the beginning and break down your comment:
1. More than 20 people have clearly watched the show, it was #1 in 69 countries
2. Early numbers are trending to a "high viewership" which is more than Ironheart and Echo could claim
3. Fandom does not demand anything. The studio makes what it wants and what it thinks fandom will enjoy. People like you enjoy nothing so it is wasted on you. Coherent enough for you DocTroll?

@DocSpock - broooooo I actually loved it. It was extremely good. No crazy race undertones like I was fearing. (black panther style). It was really just a show about this dude and it happens to be in the marvel universe. You should really give it a try. Ben Kingsley blows it away.

@AgentofSH1ELD -

I do not doubt it was good. I said so in my post.

I simply think it will have very low viewership.

This is the most misleading headline I’ve ever read on this site. And that’s saying A LOT!!!

@EscapeMySight - I had to go back and read it again. It’s very poorly worded and can be read two very different ways.

It was obvious Marvel didn’t care about Wonderman. Seems like they might’ve cut the budget of that show but didn’t cancel it because they were already too far into production. Hopefully Wonderman can be more entertaining as an Avenger.

@JFerguson - Yeah, that tracks. You would expect courtesy to be such an outlier that it could only come from the person being unfairly ridiculed. It wouldn't occur to someone like you that someone who isn't involved is just offended by rudeness and felt compelled to say something, huh?

"I think it's so funny how people really want a trailer."

Yes, whenever I need a good laugh, I think about how people really want a trailer. It's comedy gold.
JackDeth
JackDeth - 2/13/2026, 8:46 AM
@LSHF - I think it's funny when people start speculating that the reason the trailer hasn't come out yet is for a stupid reason, like MARVEL is somehow ashamed of it or something.

Yes, when in doubt, assume something negative: lol.

Hell, there's still people here assuming reshoots mean the film must be bad or in trouble, instead of just the studio making improvements.
Quick to judge, but slow to think.

"...some fans have accused Marvel Studios of dumping Wonder Man on Disney+ with little fanfare. In reality, the series was given a far more robust push than many MCU series..."

Some fans think they know what's happening behind the scenes and reject reality if it doesn't match their own narratives. Some 'fans' are morons.

High hopes for this. Wasnt sure about the director but both Shang Chi and Wonderman are a refresh from the same "Marvel Mold". He seems like the type that can make you forget you are watching a super hero movie (Like Winter Solider). Wonderman was fantastic and im sure he is going to do an excellent job with Spidey.

The concept art costume looks WAY better than the actual suit in the show. I know that the suit is suposed to look like a satire or something like that but its probably one of the worst looking costumes in the MCU.

I honestly fully expected us to get a Spider Man BND trailer this week with GOAT but that didn’t it…

The only things i can think now is that they release it close to CinemaCon in April which would be too late imo or they release it one random day soon online which i think is more possible hence we just have to wait.

Also DDC is right , if Marvel didn’t care about Wonder Man then they wouldn’t have made the show or any project because that would be useless spending then and every studio wants to save as much money as possible.

Anyway after Shang Chi , Wonder Man & hopefully BND , i hope Destin sticks around in the MCU for a long while!!.

If Marvel cared at all, they wouldve released Wonder Man weekly to gain word of mouth slowly. But they did not.

And I loved Wonder Man and people should see it. Unfortunately, back to a slopfest with Doomsday.
