Spider-Man: Brand New Day arrives on Digital platforms tomorrow, but during its tenth weekend in theaters, the Sony Pictures/Marvel Studios co-production managed to achieve one more spectacular feat.
As of yesterday, the web-slinger's latest movie has become only the third blockbuster in history to cross $2.5 billion at the worldwide box office. A strong weekend overseas pushed Spider-Man: Brand New Day's international cume to $1.55 billion, and with $954.5 million in North America, Spidey has officially made history.
With its time in theaters winding down, Spider-Man: Brand New Day is projected to wrap up its time in the U.S. with $960 million and a $2.52 billion haul worldwide. A re-release is reportedly planned, but it still shouldn't trouble blockbusters like Avatar ($2.924 billion) and Avengers: Endgame ($2.925 billion).
At best, we'd expect this extended cut of Spider-Man: Brand New Day to perform similarly to the "More Fun Stuff" re-release of Spider-Man: No Way Home, which earned $7.6 million in 2022.
The difference with Avengers Endgame: Encore is that it featured new scenes to set up Avengers: Doomsday; in contrast, Spider-Man: Brand New Day will likely just throw in a few deleted scenes that we'd normally see included on the Blu-ray.
We know that Rosario Dawson's Claire Temple will be in the extended cut, while Jean DeWolff actress Liza Colón-Zayas previously revealed a scrapped scene she featured in. "There's the moment when they're putting Dr. Banner in the ambulance, and it's raining and Tramell [Tillman] comes out, and, right before Tramell approaches Spider-Man, [we talk]," the actress revealed. "It was a real brief moment."
"I can't even remember exactly what the lines were. It was just a real brief check-in," she continued. "We were under this rain machine, and it was already raining some on that day. And honey, I was soaking wet. We were both soaking wet, and I guess they couldn't use it because it looked like I was under a waterfall. I was actually a little relieved that didn't make it in there."
In Spider-Man: Brand New Day, it's a Brand New Day for Peter Parker. Fighting crime full-time as Spider-Man in a world that doesn’t remember him—and the pressure of seeing his old friends move on without him—sparks a change in Peter that he may not have the power to control.
But that transformation might also be the only thing that can stop a shocking new threat to the city and those he loves - a powerful villain no one can even see. The world may have forgotten Peter Parker, but he hasn’t forgotten them.
In our review, we concluded by saying, "Spider-Man: Brand New Day is everything fans could want. Emotional, hilarious, and heartfelt, it’s an action-packed love letter to the comics and one of Spidey’s best big-screen adventures. Spider-Man has never been more amazing."
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is currently playing in theaters. The movie is available digitally on October 6 and arrives on 4K UHD, Blu-ray, and DVD on December 15.
