Spider-Man: Brand New Day recreates several iconic comic book covers in a montage revisiting the web-slinger's past battles with villains like Boomerang, Tarantula, and Tombstone.
Ahead of the movie's Digital release next week, a new featurette offers a closer look at Spider-Man: Brand New Day's minor baddies and how filmmaker Destin Daniel Cretton put a live-action spin on the aforementioned covers.
The costume designs are showcased, as are actors like Marvin Jones III and Billy Clements, who finally break their silence about playing Tombstone and Ramrod. For the former, this was his chance to play a villain he first brought to life in 2018's Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.
"This is the first time that the world is seeing Tombstone realised in live action," Jones says in the video below. "I was overwhelmingly blessed to voice Tombstone in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. Here I am, now playing a live-action version of Tombstone."
"Definitely doing my homework on him for years now," the actor added. "Understanding the world that he comes from and really making sure that all the different, particular humanity and the particular villainous ways of Lonnie Lincoln, that I present that in the best way possible."
Elsewhere in the video, we learn more about how covers for Spectacular Spider-Man #142 (Tombstone), The Amazing Spider-Man #221 (Ramrod), The Amazing Spider-Man #345 (Boomerang), and The Amazing Spider-Man #134 (Tarantula) were translated to the MCU.
It was recently reported that Spider-Man: Brand New Day will eventually be re-released in theaters with additional scenes. That includes Rosario Dawson's cameo as Claire Temple, meaning no deleted scenes are expected to be included as part of the Digital and Blu-ray releases.
In Spider-Man: Brand New Day, it's a Brand New Day for Peter Parker. Fighting crime full-time as Spider-Man in a world that doesn’t remember him—and the pressure of seeing his old friends move on without him—sparks a change in Peter that he may not have the power to control.
But that transformation might also be the only thing that can stop a shocking new threat to the city and those he loves - a powerful villain no one can even see. The world may have forgotten Peter Parker, but he hasn’t forgotten them.
In our review, we concluded by saying, "Spider-Man: Brand New Day is everything fans could want. Emotional, hilarious, and heartfelt, it’s an action-packed love letter to the comics and one of Spidey’s best big-screen adventures. Spider-Man has never been more amazing."
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is currently playing in theaters. The movie is available digitally on October 6 and arrives on 4K UHD, Blu-ray, and DVD on December 15.
