THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN Producers Discuss The Possibility Of Introducing The Sinister Six

Talking to SuperHero Hype, The Amazing Spider-Man producers Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach have discussed the possibility of the Sinister Six being used in a future installment in the franchise. It would appear that the success of Marvel's The Avengers has convinced them that it would work, while they also express interest in using the Kingpin too. Check out a few excerpts from the interview below and be sure to click on the link at the bottom of the page to read it in full. Which six villains would you like to see make up the roster of The Sinister Six?

Do you feel like you need to stay away from some of the villains that have appeared in the Sam Raimi movies? Or can you redefine them within the context of this new Spider-Man?

Arad: Well, not really. There are so many ways to paint these villains, all of them. As you know, one of the great sagas in the Spider-Man universe is of course the Sinister Six. I think "Avengers" did okay the last time I looked.

Tolmach: It's going to be okay.

Arad: Yeah, it will survive.

So are you suggesting you're going to do five Spider-Man movies introducing each villain and then the sixth movie will have the Sinister Six?

Tolmach: It seems like a good model.

Arad: It all depends on the stories that one wants to tell, because Spider-Man is really more a depth kind of a story, we have to be careful how many villains we can service, because a relationship with a villain has to be such that it's a story on his own. We attempted to do multiple villains--you've been there--you just need screen time to do it.

Does Sony have the rights to Kingpin? That was a great Spider-Man villain until Frank Miller took him for his run on Daredevil and he became known more as a Daredevil villain, appearing in that movie.

Arad: Believe it or not, Kingpin was on loan to Daredevil, so again, anything that is part of the Spider-Man Universe or introduced in the Spider-Man Universe--without getting too legal beagle here--is an opportunity, and if we have a story that Kingpin is important, I'm sure we can handle that.

The Amazing Spider-Man is the story of Peter Parker (Garfield), an outcast high schooler who was abandoned by his parents as a boy, leaving him to be raised by his Uncle Ben (Sheen) and Aunt May (Field). Like most teenagers, Peter is trying to figure out who he is and how he got to be the person he is today. Peter is also finding his way with his first high school crush, Gwen Stacy (Stone), and together, they struggle with love, commitment, and secrets. As Peter discovers a mysterious briefcase that belonged to his father, he begins a quest to understand his parents' disappearance - leading him directly to Oscorp and the lab of Dr Curt Connors (Ifans), his father's former partner. As Spider-Man is set on a collision course with Connors' alter-ego, The Lizard, Peter will make life-altering choices to use his powers and shape his destiny to become a hero.

STARRING:

Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker/Spider-Man
Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy
Rhys Ifans as Curt Connors/The Lizard
Martin Sheen as Uncle Ben
Sally Fields as Aunt May
Denis Leary as George Stacy

RELEASE DATE: July 3rd, 2012.

Bring on the Sinister Six. Although for villains like Vulture, Electro etc. don't need a whole movie concentraing on them, they're small enough two or three at a time. The problem SM3 had was that it did Venom, if it had of done Sandman, Vulture and New Goblin it would have been fine. Even the MCU usually have two or three villains. Captain America: Red Skull, Zola, Hydra. Thor: Loki, Destroyer, Frost Giants, Laufey.

So yeah more villains can be done it's just you have to choose which works well together.

As long as it doesn't turn into Spider-man 3

2 villains in each next movie is fine, and bring sinister six earlier. Mysterio is a must on a TASM movie ASAP

Would be cool. Though very hard to pull off.

As for Sony having Kingpin, I find that surprising. Always thought that he would be at Fox with Daredevil. Would be interesting to see him take on Spidey.

So Sony can LOAN characters to other companies!

If they do Kingpin. Do him right. Make him huge like in the comic book. I would rather see Mysterio.

Not a good idea yet unless they time jump. In order to effectively introduce the sinister six, they need to be individually introduced.

Sinister Six would be awesome. but you would only have to intro them 2 at a time, not in 5 different movies

They only have a couple films more to pull it off with Garfield. This is why I wish they would have went with a younger Peter Parker. They could have done a 6 film franchise, which would have been great. Garfield will start looking his age in the next 5-6 years so it will be time to move on from him.

Yes, start building up to the sinister six. Be cool if it was the original 6. Start with Kraven for TASM2.

Kingpin, Tombstone, Shocker, and Black Cat in one movie would make for a good spidey crime action thriller!

I'm pretty optimistic on a possible upcoming Spider-Man film that will introduce the Sinister Six. Believe me, I would most defintiely, positively, absoltuley love to see Sinister Six. Just please, Sony, you gotta know how to build it up right. Get some good stories going on for future Spidey films, know how you're going to bring in and introduce the necessary villians for the SS, have a solid plot for the film and hopefully you won't mess up on it. :)

Stay EPIC, my friends!

53 Yeah, Andrew (although a good actor) won't be 'round long enough for a Spidey film that'll have the Sinister Six. So, Sony, you better not fail on something this long-awaited.
TheAmazingSpidey63
TheAmazingSpidey63 - 7/2/2012, 3:32 PM
@72 - There ya go, man. I really want them to try at least give us a Goblin that isn't made out of a green metalic suit. They could go down the Ultimate Goblin road. Seeing as how we are seeing something with cross-genetics going on in this film franchise.

Sinister Six. Has Arad learned nothing from Spiderman 3? I hope so.
TheAmazingSpidey63
TheAmazingSpidey63 - 7/2/2012, 3:35 PM
@Durf - Yeah, that'll probably the way they'll start doing it (introducing the necessary villians for SS). Just gotta keep the plot in control (don't go crazy over the story) and please, please, Sony, find actors that'll present to all of us fanboys a great/awesome performance as their respective villians. :)

Now, for Kingpin, I would not mind him making an appearnce (or haing a role) in a Spider-Man film. That'd be pretty cool. But I've always seen Kingpin as a Daredeivl/Punisher type villian, really. He's a crimelord; a kingpin of crime. And when I hear that, I would think of heroes like Daredevil or Punisher to take on such a big (LoL, :P) criminal.
OdinsBeard
OdinsBeard - 7/2/2012, 3:40 PM
f yeah! let's do king pin right!!! i like the way spectacular did the sinister six, how spidey had the black suit on and just whooped all their asses in a straight up fist fight (well, fists, mechanical arms, electricity, sand, wings, etc..).
Durf
Durf - 7/2/2012, 3:54 PM
@72: for sure. that could be cool for Goblin. Also Death of Gwen is a must. Even if it means killing off Emma... :(
