BOX OFFICE: TASM 2 Scores Highest International Opening of 2014

BOX OFFICE: TASM 2 Scores Highest International Opening of 2014

We were a tad disappointed with Marc Webb's Amazing Spider-Man sequel here at CBM, but it seems a few negative reviews haven't done anything to hinder its BO takings. TASM 2 is off to a great start overseas, grossing an estimated $47M so far in its opening weekend.

We know Marvel's Captain America: The Winter Soldier is still raking in the cash, but it may have some competition pretty soon from another superhero sequel. Deadline report that The Amazing Spider-Man 2 has taken international markets by storm, grossing an estimated $47M from 14 major territories, including the U.K., Spain, Germany and Belgium. Apparently the top markets for Marc Webb's sequel were the UK/Ireland, where is made $15M. This gives the movie the biggest opening internationally of 2014. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 opens in 21 more markets next weekend, including Japan, Russia and South Korea. You can read my 3-star review HERE, and Josh's 2-star review HERE.

How would you say this ranks with all the other Spidey films? I'd be interested to know.

If I were to make a prediction for its total Box Office run, I'd have to go with around 880 Million. That's about 130 Million more than the first movie, which is a fair improvement.

The film should reach a billion just on the strength of the marketing. Shame it's the worst Spider-Man film yet, though.

As we all pretty much predicted "The Amazing Spider-Man 2" would do extremely well within it's box office!! lol

"Transformers: Age of Extinction vs. The Amazing Spider-Man 2" for highest grossing film of summer 2014

"Godzilla vs. Dawn of the Planet of the Apes" for best creature feature of Sumer 2014

"Captain America: The Winter Soldier vs X-Men: Days of Future Past" for best seriously toned Superhero flick of 2014

Lastly "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles vs. Guardians of the Galaxy" for best weird Sci-Fi team up flick of summer 2014

I don't see the absolute hate for this film, I enjoyed it, I think I would have to see it again to see its flaws, think I was just to excited while watching it lol I dont think green goblin had enough screen time, rhino was kind of just thrown in there for a sinister six reference, and electro wasnt a bad villian, probably wouldnt of given him the spidey stalker thing though

Unlike Captain America, Spider-Man will be getting some real competition in it's second and third weeks of release in the states with Godzilla and DOFP.
I highly doubt it will be reaching a billion but a 800 million box office run seems more likely, can't wait to see it and Godzilla though.

This will probably be the only billion dollar superhero film this year.

Sadly its arguable the worst Spider-man film yet... I'd even go as far to say its worst than Spider-man 3.

The reviews its been getting are only 'ok' however considering the previous film got so high - this will likely get $1bn... hope it drops though.

@TheBlackNerd;

"Transformers: Age of Extinction vs. The Amazing Spider-Man 2" for highest grossing film of summer 2014

- Transformers; Age Of Extinction wins with around $1.3-1.5bn (Last film made 1.1bn)

"Godzilla vs. Dawn of the Planet of the Apes" for best creature feature of Sumer 2014

- Close battle... I'd say probably Godzilla... though apes will make around $600 easily.

"Captain America: The Winter Soldier vs X-Men: Days of Future Past" for best seriously toned Superhero flick of 2014

- Another close battle... If Captain America; The Winter Soldier reaches $800k+ then it should win. However the combined cast of the original and young X-men will mean that Days Of Future past will gross about $600k+ easily.

Lastly "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles vs. Guardians of the Galaxy" for best weird Sci-Fi team up flick of summer 2014

- Guardians Of The Galaxy riding on the success of Marvel will probably earn around $400k+ However, young kids will be suckered into seeing Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles as a 'family film' so it will easily win

i wouldn't be surprised if this movie made a billion, it is the sequel to the highest grossing reboot of all time, the last sequel to come from that was the dark knight, and look how much that made, but with godzilla and xmen on the way too, we will just have to wait and see, im hoping for the billion.

Sorry folks but you have to realise Comic Book Movie site is for us geeks.
The average cinema goer has never heard of us.
Anyone claiming this is the worst superhero movie or Spider-Man movie ever should be forced to watch 1980 turkey Pumaman 12 times within a week as punishment for talking rubbish.

I don't care about the negativity regarding this film. I really liked it and will happily watch it for a 3rd time to contribute to its box office. Sure, it may not be the best superhero movie ever, but I think people are too harsh these days. My opinion though.

@Scarilian

Wow, very awesome points you made there! I totally agree with most of your reasons as well as you were very detailed within them which is what I always look for in response of the users on here.

I'm going with...

-Transformers for highest grossing this summer.
-Dawn of the Planet of the Apes for Best Creature Feature
-Days of Future Past for best seriously toned CBM this year/summer
-Ninja Turtles for best weird sci-fi team up.

However, I'm totally excited for EVERY film coming out this year! lol Guilty pleasure at it's finest! lol

The fact that The Dark Knight made 1 BILLION$ after BatmanBegins 374 Million, shows you how well BOTH films were received by fans & critics!
All the SPIDEY movies make around 800 million!
They don't improve on previous films that much just Sony is happy with a mediocre film!
The fact that they'll try to beat Marvel in that "kids friendly film filled with jokes & gags rather than just making a Fun & Entertaining film" shows they're not looking for a good film but to settle on a formula that's successful!
Hence last film tried to copy Nolan's work!
This one is following Marvel! Although doing worse than both!

IronMan 1 was FUN & ENTERTAINING!
While, IronMan 3 was filled with jokes & gags!

TDK was Dark & ENTERTAINING!
& Spidey 2 is kinda Funny & Gags-filled with dark moments & not entertaining, cuz just as you're watching a scene; you already know how it ends; if NOT by adds then by absolutely brainless screenplay!
