The Amazing Spider-man 2 has been open for the past 3 days and its got fans torn whether it was good or not. Lets begin shall we?
Overall people have found the plot both confusing and clustered. This movie might seem like the same repeat of a villian over loak that we saw in
Spider-man 3. But I am here to tell you that it is not. Rhino is the first and last Villain you see, only to establish how aweome Spidey is. The main story focuses on Electro, I mean Gwen and Peter, I mean Peter and Harry, I mean Peter and Aunt May..........hmmmm. Well anyway Plot #1 is Electro, and I'll say I was worried about how well he'd work, the whole thing about "You don't remember me, I wanna kill you waahhhh wahh" seemed like a bit of a turn off, but it's not as bad as in the actual movie. The way they made Electro fearful of his own powers at first was awesome, I felt that he was really shocked and scared of what he became and didn't wanna hurt anyone, and that lasted about....2 minutes. Then the fight is on and he hates Spider-man and the rest is well, you've seen superhero movies before so im not holding you hand through it. Overall, ya he wasn't the best villian but he wasn't bad either.
The Gwen story, ok, I heard on this site she was going to die before I saw it, and well...... the problem is, is the foreshadowing, everything from her speech to her dialouge foreshadows shes going to get hurt, Peter keeps seeing her father everywhere he goes and well he breaks up with her, I mean she breaks up with him, he brought it upon himself really, but they get back together again because hey we don't want to add another love interest, it's not like they wrote cast and filmed another girl to be in this movie, right....right? Anyway ya, the inevidable happens and it was done, really well. I loved the scene and it led to my favorite part of the movie. Thats when Peter is seen standing alone as it transitions from summer, fall, winter, and spring. That moment was so well done by Garfield it almost brought a tear to my eye, and I really don't get like that, Andrew made me beileve they were really in love. Their chemestry in the movie is so good that its like they are actually dating in real life.....................
Now this is the part that I had an issue, the Harry plot. After seeing how good the Harry and Peter relationship can be in the original Spidey films, I didn't understand why they didn't include him in the first movie, and then BAM, he's in this movie. My problem is, is that Harry and Peter are supposed to have been friends, and theres is no mention of him anywhere in the first movie, which before you argue it makes sense but it would have been nice if they somehow kept in contact, like you see Peter emailing him (we'll get back to emailing) or have Aunt May ask "hows Harry doing, since you know, hes in boarding school for the sake of him not being in the this movie but then coming back for the next one". I just don't see them being such good friends if Peter nevermentioned him, HE WAS IN OSCORP FOR MORE THAN HALF THE FIRST MOVIE, he could have asked Dr.Connors if he knew Harry. Sorry, I started ranting, anyway, their relationship goes sour becuse Harry is dying and wants Spideys blood because he thinks it'll cure him, Peter says know, Harry gets pissed but lucky for him the Plot, i mean OSCORP, has the venom (see what i did there) he needs, and he injects himself, and......wait for it..... SHOCKER it doesn't work, he becomes the Green Goblin and finds Spidey, they fight and Gwen well, she......yaaaa. This Green Goblin though is BADASS! I loved it, so much that i wish he was the main focus instead of Electro, his 5 minutes in the movie were better than Electros 2 1/2 hours. I'm very excited to see more and Harry was so good in this it made me wish he was in the first.
Theres a few things I didn't like that I'd like to mention, Norman not being in the first and now in this one for a 2 minute scene just to die for the sake of the plot was stupid and made me miss William Dafoe, THE J JONAH JAMESOM camoe or whatever you wanna call it. All you see of him is an Email! Even though the simple text from his email made me chuckle it made me think, why can't Webb put these characters in his movies? It's like he wants them in there but doesn't want to cast them so he puts the characters name in the movie. They did it with Norman in the first movie and JJJ in this one,It's annoying.
But this movie overall as a whole, was a really good movie, don't let the amount of villains intmidate you, and sorry Rhino fans but you will be disappointed, The action is off the charts, the FX is at its peak, the acting is superb, Yes its better than the first Amazing Spider-Man, Yes its better than Spider-man 3, and 1. although I wouldn't say it was better than Spidey 2, I found it just as enjoyable and the pros way out the cons.
Final verdict:
8/10
See it in the theaters, its worth the price of admition and if you go in with an open mind, you will not be disappointed. I loved it, it kept me entertained.
Thank You everyone for tuning in to my first review and be sure to check out next week as I review one of the biggest returns to film in history for a character, literally.
