Now I understand that this is a pretty sensitive subject when it comes to comic book fans and comic book movie fans in general but I think I have discovered something that has been overlooked by every fan of the Spider-Man franchise, the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and comic book films in general: that it's possible that the upcoming Spider-Man reboot may be a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and , also, that it was overlooked by everyone.

Now before I continue, let me explain how I came to this outrageous conclusion. I was surfing Marvel.com looking at pictures from the upcoming films, particularly, the Spider-Man Reboot.

Now as a regular person and not a fan, I pay attention to detail with a sharpness almost unlike anyone else, so when I clicked on the article on Marvel's site here announcing the release of first picture of the costume from the Spider-Man reboot, I noticed something. Now look at the banner in question below.

Did you notice it? What I am talking about is the Marvel Studios logo that rests in the corner of that banner.

Now to make sure what I began thinking wasn't ape sh*t crazy, I began researching the other non MCU films on the site to see of any others had this logo. But, to no avail, I couldn't find any other non MCU films bearing the logo which is reserved only for those films that are a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

I began to wonder if that what I was in fact thinking was true, how in Odin's beard did anyone, especially the fans on comicbookmovie.com, miss something this monumental?

This brings me back here. Personally, I am bamboozled (yes bamboozled) about this. I truly don't know what to think of this. How something this extraordinary and massively awesome could have been overlooked is beyond me.

If you read the articles, particularly the ones from almost exactly a year ago announcing the reboot you'll see that some of them do say that Sony and Marvel Studios were rebooting the franchise. At the time I and I'm sure others overlooked this because we were in shock and awe of the announcement of a reboot after close to a year of development on, the now dead, Spider-Man 4.

But, the simple fact that something such as this, in which its implications will change not only the future of Marvel Comics' films but comic book movies in general, has possibly been overlooked do immensely that people are actually complaining that the Spider-Man film series should be in Marvel's hands just simply shocks, stuns and baffles me beyond belief.

Now this could all be wishful thinking on a fan that took a small bit of information and blew it out of proportion, however, it also could be the exact opposite and be the biggest news story in comic book films of the last decade and that it's been overlooked immensely.

Anyways, take a look back at the banner and tell me how do you feel knowing something such as this may have been overlooked and, if it is indeed what I think, How do you feel of about the prospect of seeing Spider-Man take his rightful place alongside the other heroes of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Update 1:

For those who don't know, Marvel Entertainment and Marvel Studios are separate entities. Marvel Enterntainment, along side a studio such as Sony, produces all NON MCU films, while Marvel Studios, by itself produces all MCU films. Also, neither Marvel Entertainment or Marvel Studios distribute any of their respective films; A outside studio such as Universal, Sony, Paramount, etc. distributes in BOTH cases. Please, refrain from negative commenting if you do not completely know the information regarding who does what.

Update 2:

the Marvel Studios is reserved for films produced under Marvel Studios. All films produced under Marvel Studios are created for inclusion in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Also, unlike Marvel Knights, Marvel Studios is an Actual studio.

Update 3:

Back when Marvel announced the reboot of Spider-Man as well as Marc Webb being hired as its director, they posted this article which featured the following banner which also includes the MCU exclusive Marvel Studios logo. The article also says that Columbia Pictures and Marvel Studios jointly announced the reboot.

Update 4:

Here are 3 more banners that were featured in Marvel's articles featuring the MCU exclusive Marvel Studios logo. Click on the picture to access the corresponding article.

Update 5:

After some more research, I found out that Sony was in a situation DC and Warner Bros. were in with the Superman franchise and the hulk franchise in that they all had to have a new film In Production by a certain date.

In Sony's case it was May of 2011. It is well known that sony did not make this date. So it is likely the rights reverted back to Marvel, particularly, Marvel Studios.

here's a link when it was stated that it was "likely" Sony would not make their start date

In the case of Hulk, the rights reverted back to marvel in 2006 while the origin rights of Superman reverted back to the creators.

Update 6:

It has been brought to my attention that Marvel.com's banners for X-Men First Class (see below) also bear the Marvel Studios logo. I'm cannot be sure of this "debunks" the information in my article as all other credible sources still lists 20th Century Fox as the primary producer and sole distibutor, with co-production by Marvel Entertainment.

Update 7:

Thanks to user spiderman620 and research into the matter, I now know Marvel Does indeed own the film the right to the Hulk. However, this does not discredit my previous statements. It is still possible that the Spider-Man reboot is in Marvel Studios hands. I stated in my 5th update, its very possible that the rights of Spider-Man have reverted back to Marvel, particularly, Marvel Studios in one way or another.

Update 8:

Thanks to user theMessenger07 for providing the following information:

"From further research on the logo, it is being used on all marvel films to come out, replacing the standard one. This includes joint ventures like spider-man, x-men, and ghost rider.

Also the clauses on the contracts seem to have gotten substantially greater with the delays and reeboots. This allows greater opportunity for Marvel to gain there rights back. Even during mid production for some of the Projects.

As of right now nothing has transitioned back into there rites. That is from some info a Buddy was able to get for me on the contracts and what I was able to analyze From the details. The logo on the product means nothing but marvels efforts to promote the brand more. They were always co-producers, now they have a production company."

It'd be very cool, but I think it's just wishful thinking.

It could happen, but very unlikely. :(

Jp499 - 1/16/2011, 5:23 PM
@TheWitness But with Marvel Studios and their Marvel Cinematic Universe, they make the film and distribute through a bigger studio such as, incredible hulk with universal, who holds the hulk's rights cohesively with marvel, and iron man, captain america, and thor at paramount so.... Think Again.
Jp499
Jp499 - 1/16/2011, 5:30 PM
@nickkase yes it's true that every marvel film features the Marvel Logo but only the films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe feature the Marvel Studios logo; there's a different.

Non-MCU Films:

MCU Films:

sorry Jp499, but that is still Marvel Studios, just an old logo :(
CaptainAmerica

But nickkase is a mistaken if he thinks it cant happen. Studios team up ALL the time to create movies. It'll take a really big agreement though, and for one studio to pay the other studio a big sum of money.

@Jp499

The difference is that The Incredible Hulk is produced by Marvel and is distributed by Universal. Spider-Man is being produced by Sony and is being distributed by Sony. As much as I would love for the new Spidey to be a part of the MCU, it won't be.

SmokinIndo - 1/16/2011, 5:44 PM
@CaptainAmerica

I've never heard of two major studios teaming up to produce a film. Can you enlighten me? Something like that would almost guarantee a film's failure due to conflicting interests between executives.

LEEE777 - 1/16/2011, 5:47 PM
Of course its not... thats why we need it back with MARVEL STUDIOS as well as all of FOX's Marvel movies!

Ghost Rider and Namor too! :)

It's called wishful thinking and for someone that prides them self of details you sure do miss a lot when it comes to who distributes the films.
Jp499
Jp499 - 1/16/2011, 5:52 PM
guys those logos are used for different film types.

The Marvel Studios one is only used for films produced Marvel Studios.

The plain marvel logo is used for film's that are produced by marvel entertainment which is Completely Separate from Marvel Studios.
SmokinIndo
SmokinIndo - 1/16/2011, 5:54 PM
@LEE777

I think Namor is with Marvel Studios. They blatantly referenced Atlantis in Iron Man 2. I'm pretty sure the deal with FOX didn't say "all mutants" and was much more specific than that.
SmokinIndo
SmokinIndo - 1/16/2011, 5:57 PM
@Jp499

I don't think the logo has anything to do with what you're talking about. Punisher: War Zone had "Marvel Knights" in front of it but it was still owned and produced by Lionsgate.

nice find,Jp499, i just checked X-men Origins Wolverine and its an old Marvel logo without "Studios", we all know Iron Man came out before Wolverine, and both Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk's logo had the word "Studios",
not so sure, but we will know until the movie come out.
just hope its true...

(and sorry about my English :">)

i've seen Paramount and Columbia team up before (i think), and i can definitley see it happening.

@everyone else other than LEEE
the Marvel Studios logo debuted with their first self financed film, Iron Man. it was then included in that film's sequel, The Incredible Hulk, and upcoming films Thor, Captain America, and The Avengers.

Iron Man was released in 2008. so explain to me why X-men Origins: Wolverine (a 2009 film) did NOT have the Marvel Studios logo???
instead Wolvie was branded with the generic Marvel logo that has been attached to every other Marvel film not in the MCU continuity???
SmokinIndo
SmokinIndo - 1/16/2011, 6:33 PM
I'd love to think that this is true but... I just can't see Sony pictures taking part in an endeavor like this. But then again SONY isn't FOX. Although this still means that the new Spider-Man reboot is being produced by Sony, whether or not it exists in the MCU. This means that we may not get the Spider-Man that we all know and love. And if the reboot sucks balls, it remains part of continuity no matter what. But that's a risk even Marvel Studios has to take. But with Marvel not being in direct control, the risk seems even greater.

I hope this is true, but I don't know.
LucasMend
LucasMend - 1/16/2011, 6:39 PM
Oh man I hope thats true, but we´ll only know if anyone from MARVEL STUDIOS or SONY says that or in the day it comes out.
Who knows prolly the first trailer may have not just COLUMBIA logo but MARVEL STUDIOS too, spider-man movies in the MCU would be [frick]ing cool :)
MAXQ1961
MAXQ1961 - 1/16/2011, 6:49 PM
The Spidey reboot is Columbia-Universal's way of saying: here at the Sony Corporation, we plan on making more cash with this Marvel character unless Disney will give us a boatload of cash to let Marvel Studios make their own great Spidey movie. Now back to Iron Man on the FX Channel...
SmokinIndo
SmokinIndo - 1/16/2011, 7:16 PM
@Jp499

I read that article you just linked to, and I found this.

Commenting on the announcement, Amy Pascal, co-chairman of Sony Pictures Entertainment, and Matt Tolmach, president of Columbia Pictures, said, "At its core, Spider-Man is a small, intimate human story about an everyday teenager that takes place in an epic super-human world."

I don't know if this means what I think it means, or it's just a metaphor for the struggles of being a teenager.
CaptainAmerica
CaptainAmerica - 1/16/2011, 7:22 PM
i just checked and yes, the latest non Marvel film (Wolverine) does not have the Marvel Studios logo, just the Marvel logo while both Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk, which came before it, both have the Marvel Studios logo.
CaptainAmerica
CaptainAmerica - 1/16/2011, 7:32 PM
It was a rumor back when the reboot was first announced that it might be part of the MCU, you just brought back the rumor in a good way :D
spiderman620
spiderman620 - 1/16/2011, 7:39 PM
@wadey-i can answer that question for you the reason origins had the plain old Marvel logo rather then the Marvel Studios logo, and thats because wolverine was produced and distributed by fox not Marvel Studios witch are two seperate entites witch was stated above. so no Spidey will not be appearing in any Marvel Studios films until Marvel Studios regains the movie rights.

my question is why are we even debating this? we all know the answer its no.
spiderman620
spiderman620 - 1/16/2011, 7:45 PM
@Jp499-i agree with everything youve said brother

i wish i could see characters such as Spider-Man, Fantastic Four, GR, X-Men, and so on appear in films done by Marvel Studios, but remember what Fiege said at Comic-Con last summer "we have aquired Punisher and are looking to bring him into the fold" there you have it folks characters at other studios will NOT appear in Marvel Studios films....and BOOM goes the dynomite
golden123
golden123 - 1/16/2011, 7:46 PM
Marvel Studios has a hand in all of the movies based on their comics. Whether the rights are technically owned by Fox or Sony MS still has a hand.
spiderman620
spiderman620 - 1/16/2011, 7:58 PM
nickkase-that isnt true sony owns the production and distribution rights to Spider-Man and a few more characters its been this way sense x-men first hit at the box office the only reason Marvel didnt do it themselves is because they didnt have resources at that time (hell Marvel Studios as a solo distributer didnt even exist at that time) @indorapter said it best "But that's a risk even Marvel Studios has to take. But with Marvel not being in direct control, the risk seems even greater".

spiderman620
spiderman620 - 1/16/2011, 8:00 PM
@golden-that may be true but characters not under there "roof" they dont have direct control over the project, they only have control over the ones they directly control

@Spider-man620
last summer Fiege announced that Punisher had come into the MCU fold. basically. but has anyone here ever heard of a guy by the name of Michael Bay???
this director is notorious for his misinformation campaigns regarding Transformers: ROTF and DOTM. i included DOTM because we all know the Twins are coming back.
anyway, back on subject. do you think that Fiege would just tell us that the Spidey reboot was gonna be a joint effort between Marvel and Sony to create a more solid MCU?

maybe.

this could be the film to get Spidey back on his feet, and make mounds of cash while he does it. are you saying it is entirely out of the realm of possibility, without a shadow of a doubt, you would bet money that you didn't have that Spider-man may have been included in the current Marvel Cinematic Universe???
the animation rights have reverted back to Marvel, we're expecting an Ultimate Spider-man series in the Fall. why is it so hard to believe this? last year, we thought Raimi would never walk out on the Webhead. and now look at the situation. time changes everything.
and here's hoping that we'll see the Webslinger join the ranks of Earth's Mightiest very soon!

btw,
i don't think that Spidey will be in the MCU, but i can still hope!
spiderman620
spiderman620 - 1/16/2011, 8:36 PM
@wadey-i was using that as an example to show that marvel characters owned by outside studios cant be included in the MCU because the rights are under the roof of there respective studios lionsgate, sony, and fox. i cant remember who said it Fiege or Joe Q said that for the time being they are considering the characters owned by the forementioned studios don't exist witch would include my beloved Spider-Man. so its hard for me to belive they would work with sony to bring spidey into the MCU(major crimes unit...sorry batman joke, you know what i mean lol). also my friend Micheal Bay had ROTF in production at the time, where there is no news of Marvel having something in the works as of yet, so i dont see where Fiege would have a reason to missinform everyone
spiderman620
spiderman620 - 1/16/2011, 8:38 PM
@golden-lol you got me there, but i would belive that Marvel Entertainment would be handling that not Marvel Studios

spiderman620 - 1/16/2011, 9:08 PM

dont get me wrong man i would love to see spidey and others be entered into the MCU but i want to see it done the right way like what there doing with Iron Man, Hulk, Thor, Captain America, The Avengers, with a movie set before hand establishing the character

LucasMend - 1/16/2011, 9:17 PM
Well all this articles on Marvel site are saying "Spider-Man from Columbia Pictures and Marvel Studios" so I guess we might have now Spidey on the MCU!
Of course SONY prolly owns the rights, but who knows it might be like The Incredible Hulk in 2008 which was distributed by Universal and produced by Marvel Studios.
Lets hope thats true like I said before! lol
spiderman620
spiderman620 - 1/16/2011, 9:29 PM
dont forget that marvel is now under the disney unbrella and after The Avengers disney will distribute future marvel films.....so bc spider-man's movie rights are currently owned by sony i dont see it possible that spidey will be able to populate the MCU bc disney will want to distribute it and we all know that Sony wont like that very much unless marvel and aquired the movie rights witch doesnt seem to be true sense sony as moved forward with said reboot
Jp499
Jp499 - 1/16/2011, 9:31 PM
@Lucaxmen Thank you! thats point that I've been trying to get across. This Spider-Man movie is probably like hulk in the aspect that it's rights are probably owned by Columbia but its produced by Marvel particularly Marvel Studios, unlike the past when it was produced by Marvel Entertainment.
TheAmazingSmitty
TheAmazingSmitty - 1/16/2011, 9:41 PM
Hmm, very interesting article. The same can be said about X-Men: First Class, seeing as how it also has the Marvel Studios logo. Fox might be doing the same thing, if any of this is true. I am still doubting this though, it seems like wishful thinking at this point.
spiderman620
spiderman620 - 1/16/2011, 9:42 PM
please dont take this as angry or pissed off, but can we please start thinking logicly and realisticly they are many buisness issues to take into account, like the fact that marvel is now a subsidarity of Disney so marvel studios working with sony is out of the picture because as disney as stated after the avengers disney will distribute ALL future marvel studio films including Iron Man 3, possible sequals to Thor, Captain America, Avengers, and whoever else Marvel decides to make into full length feature films. so marvel studios working will sony wouldnt fly with disney and marvel does not wanna screw that up. i understand your hopes and wishes and i share them in a slightly different way, i dont mean to be a jerk and stomp on your wishes but this all seems to be wishfull thinking
