What's Motivating Jamie Foxx To Play ELECTRO In SPIDER-MAN? Plus The DJANGO UNCHAINED Scene That Made Quentin Tarantino Cry

The Best Actor Oscar winner discusses his motivation for joining Marc Webb's Amazing Spider-Man 2 and what it was like working on Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained.

As of today, Jamie's deal still isn't final according to this report from Access who spoke to him at GQ Magazine's Men of the Year 2012 party in Los Angeles. However, the 44-yeard-old Foxx says the deal is "in the works" and that he has his "fingers crossed [that] everything works out".

So what's the motivation behind the Best Actor Academy Award winning thespian even stepping into a role that doesn't necessarily fit his filmography to date?

“I have a little daughter, 4 years old, and what’s crazy is like, this past year she had a birthday where Spider-Man was the theme. I haven’t sprung it on her yet, but she will go crazy!”

That would certainly explain why he's pursuing such a different role from what we're accustomed to seeing him portray. Should Foxx be confirmed for the role the next bit of speculation will be on whether Webb can coax a serious, 'Collateral/Ray'-esque effort from Foxx? Or if that is even the tone the film is going after for Electro for that matter. Hear the actor himself below and his description on the powerful story in Django Unchained. Be sure to check back to CBM for all the latest breaking news on The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and catch Django Unchained in theaters this Christmas.

I'm fine with Jamie Foxx as Electro I suppose. Just took me aback when I first heard it a few days ago.

The electricity effects will look rad in 3-D.

"Happy Birthday, daughter! Now I know you love Spider-Man, so I went to the liberty of starring in a movie with him where I'm the bad guy who badly injures him and throws his girlfriend off a bridge resulting in a haunting death that'll scar Spidey for life! Have a Happy Spiderrific Birthday!"

NOOO A BLACK ACTOR PLAYING A WHITE CHARACTER WAAAH. Big Deal. If he can pull of the role well and is enjoyable then who gives a damn. Look at Idris Elba as Heimdall, he was awesome in the role. Same goes for Idris as the next Bond, I don't see what the big deal is. It is a CHARACTER, not based off of a real person. Different interpretation of that CHARACTER will only be a good thing.

@Nerdicon
Oh come on, it's obviously gonna happen.. You're telling me you find nothing even remotely close to foreshadowing about Peter neglecting to fulfill Capt Stacy's dying wish to keep Gwen out of his dangerous Spider-Man life? Yeah. Right.
Peter's gonna feel the hell of guilt on his shoulders in 2014, buddy.

I'm starting to really love the idea of foxx as electro, at first i wasn't so sure mostly becuse it came so out of leftfield. I hope they go the ultimate electro route where he's more of a mercenary, i hope they put mysterio in the movie though, because i don't think electro can handle a whole movie to himself niether can mysterio really, so putting them 2 in the same movie would kind of make sense, plus that could tick some villains off that need to be introduced for the sinister six movie i hope we get one day (fingers crossed).I'd also like to see at like the beginning of the movie spidey taking out one of his more b list villains i.e. the shocker in like a cameo, because that hasn't really been done yet in a superhero movie yet.

It's not race I just don't see him in the role but when I think about it if h's suppose to play a spidey villain this is the one I see him playing the most probably so I don't have too much of a problem. I'm just glad we'll see electro on screen!

Electro wont be handeling the whole movie, they will be introducing osborn. Plus, electro isnt awesome in comics but his power is perfect for a movie. Picture spidey getting electricuted!!! It will be good. And you dont cast an actor like Foxx and short change the character. He wouldent take the role if it wasnt gonna be awesome.

KaneRomita - 11/15/2012, 4:43 PM
I think he'd be great.. Electro may be second-tier but he IS a classic villain that could end up surprising everyone. The same kind of low-expectations helped the Iron Man movie I think.
Also, I think since Heath Ledger's turn as the Joker a lot of a-list actors are seeing that the villain role ain't such a bad rap.

I'll tell you what I wanna see in this movie.. Mobsters.! I always love it when Spidey gets caught in the middle of a gang-war.

Damian Lewis is not a bad actor just not Osborn. get Micheal Massee to return as Norman/extension of Norman and you will get a small chance of me watching the squeal which will probably [frik] things up as usual(and not in the good way.)

I just saw The Amazing Spider-Man last night and was not impressed. It did nothing new, the tone wasn't that great, it felt half assed. When I saw the original Raimi Spider-Man I thought it was too hokey. It looks and feels a whole lot better in comparison. Raimi was an inspired choice that filled it with HEART and you actually liked the character. Garfield and Fields were awful casting choices, the angst was annoying, Connors was a typical villain while bringing NOTHING new to the table, and the characters just didn't meld. I was never invested ONCE. And now Foxx?? I guess they can just cast and do whatever the hell they like because this run of Spider-Man SUXXX triple X style. Not Amazing, not Spectacular, not the untold story, nothing to give a sh!t about. Seriously, Foxx is a great actor, but for Electro? At least Raimi's Sandman looked the damned part!!!!!!!!!

lmao at the comments.

You all are a bunch of cynics.

I think its sweet he wants to do Spider-Man for his daughter.

Even if Gwen dies, you know they won't play it off as some ultra sad scene right? Because Sony cannot afford to lose the family audience.

Foxx for Electro is pretty great.

Ifans as Lizard was complete shit, one of the worst casting choices ever. Tied with Topher Grace as Venom.

Alfred Molina and Willem Dafoe were bloody fantastic though

Parker2017 - 11/15/2012, 4:48 PM
@SanFranLand agreed with most of those gripes,the music was terrible to. don't get me started on costume designs and villain designs. it was for me under okay not fully Gosh darn awful but in the bad-okay range. felt liek watchign a horrible MTV show. but thats jsut opinion. Foxx I think will have some fun as ol' sparky McGee.

@indigobolt956- YES. Ron Pearlman would be badass. Are we wasting him on this Spider-Man run though? Let me reiterate SALLY FIELDS?!?!!????

@ Thewonderer That is pretty sweet to take on a role for your child a lot of actors do that, and I wish him all the best of luck. Django Unchained looks awesome.

SanFranLand - 11/15/2012, 4:52 PM
@Parker2017- THANK YOU. I forgot about the music. I am a musician. I can hum the Raimi films theme right now. Does anybody remember ONE music theme from TASM?? The ONLY music portion that worked was when Gwen was hiding from the lizard and that was only smashing your fingers on the piano keys to give a dissonant, horror feel!!!!! Sorry about the anger/passion. I'm buzzed.

I didnt take it as Jamie doing the film FOR his daughter. More so Marvel had interest in him and his daughter just so happened to have a spidey themed B day party, and that shes gonna freak when she finds out. Meaning he's saying its crazy that this role came up bc my daughter loves Spider-man.

I would've rather have seen Foxx as War Machine. Smh.....

@SanFranLand you're welcome! :p

@Jollem it ihnk by that quote he emnt it won't be played up as it should be, probley comparing it to he likes of fox's Fantasic Four. I ahve to disagree it hink they will play it up, jsut hiopefully in a nice suttle way. of course i;m worried they won't and we'll have a poorly done "KAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!" moment.

@MixedSuperman maybe, or maybe not it like to think he's doing soemthign very genuiene so the msot you can probley get is soemthing good or worst case senario its the lizard all over agian. i'm thinking cross speices of eletric eel and robots (if the game is part of the canon)

@Jollem

Spider-Man movies have never really ventured off into extremely sad territory.

People were criticizing Foxx for taking on a film for his daughter since they think it'll be dark and too much for her.

I think thats absurd as they will never lose the family crowd.

SugarYumYum - 11/15/2012, 5:08 PM
@Mixedsuperman: Thank you. I thought I was the only one that read it like that... oh boy.

*startsmumblingaboutthelossofthedyingartofreadingcomprehension*

So Fox is definitely Electro? Good, Oscar caliber actor as villain... lighting should look boss in IMAX... death of Gwen Stacey plotline (cuz we all know that's the direction they're going)... should be a decent watch.
Spideyguy94
Spideyguy94 - 11/15/2012, 5:09 PM
@thewonderer Shut up you idiot. You only come on marvel articles to rip on marvel movies. What you just said about them not gonna do the death of gwen stacy as a sad scene is moronic, they killed of norman in spider-man 1, harry in spider-man 3 and captain stacy in tasm, which where much more brutal deaths then gwen's and harry's and captain stacy's were sad, did that turn off the family audience? NO. Any movie with the word spider-man in it is going to make a shit ton of money because its spider-man. Family audience's are going to see it regardless you idiot
