Just one week after Jai Courtney confirmed that he would be returning as Captain Boomerang in The Suicide Squad, it's now been revealed that Viola Davis is coming back as Amanda Waller.

Say what you will about the first movie but David was great as the woman in charge of Task Force X and it definitely makes sense for her story to continue in a movie that has been described as both a reboot and sequel since it was first announced. 

Plot details have not yet been revealed but during a recent interview, Courtney said "It’s a great [script], I was surprised by everything [in it]."

There's a lot of speculation that the original Task Force X will be killed off for a new team to take their place but it seems more likely that Gunn is taking the characters he likes from the first instalment and putting his own spin on them.

Only character I wanted to see comeback was Viola Davis as Amanda Waller. Would love for her to get a more screen time. Harley Quinn is already getting a reboot with Birds of Prey, so I think it would make more sense to not include her but rumor is she's back. It's reported that Boomerang has a small role, I wonder if he will get the slipknot treatment.

NICE!! Ok this may have solidified my hopes for this. Keeping the best of the first one (sans Will) and leaving out the worst. Can't wait to see what Gunn has planned for this.

@Spock0Clock - They could have easily retconned the first film by having it play as a wacky fan fiction created by Harley Quinn. Have it where Harley overheard a guard talking about it and she had this crazy daydream about it (part 1) and have Waller actually recruit Harley to the real squid. Making part 1 a really ridiculous day dream of Harley.

Davis, Courtney, and Smith were the only actors I really wanted back, (indifferent on Robbie since she has Birds of Prey) so im happy about at least two of them are returning. They were the best parts, and Boomerang specifically I want to see Gunn’s take on

Awesome to hear! Like I said before, the cast was not at all the problem with the first Squad. All you really have to do with this cast is put them in a better movie. Lol

@BlackBeltJones - I have a hard time picturing her as anything other than Shirley, but I've always wondered if Yvette Nicole Brown had it in her to be the perfect Waller.



She's lost a lot of weight now, so I feel like the ship has sailed in any case.

Viola is one of the best actresses working today. She's insanely talented. I expect to see that in this movie.
