The Suicide Squad director James Gunn hosted an online watch party for the movie earlier this week, and the during the event, the film's post-credits sequence was shared by the Peacemaker Twitter account.

If you've seen The Suicide Squad you'll know why that is, but if not, major spoilers from this point on!

Towards the end of the movie, Bloodsport (Idris Elba) shoots Peacemaker (John Cena) in the throat as he's about to execute Ratcatcher II (Daniela Melchoir). At that point, we all assumed the upcoming Peacemaker spinoff would be a prequel, but we later find out that the unhinged vigilante had survived.

This scene finds ARGUS members John Economos (Steve Agee) and Emilia Harcourt (Jennifer Holland) being led to Christopher Smith's hospital bed, where they're told that he should recover after surgery. It seems Amanda Waller has assigned the pair to work with Peacemaker as revenge for them defying her during the battle of Corto Maltese, but what exactly do they want with the jingoistic Task Force X member? All we have to go on is that ARGUS needs him to help them "save the f*cking world."

Peacemaker will also star Danielle Brooks, Chris Conrad, Robert Patrick and Chukwudi Iwuji. Specific plot details are still under wraps, but we do know that the series will explore the origins of Cena's titular DC Comics villain/antihero, a man who believes in peace at any cost, no matter how many people he has to kill to get it.

Gunn is writing and directing the show, which was ordered to series last September. No official premiere date has been announced, but Peacemaker is expected to hit HBO Max next January.
