New Details On Why SUICIDE SQUAD 2 Was Delayed In Favor Of BIRDS OF PREY And WB's Plans For BATGIRL
Following on from today's news that WB has tapped Cathy Yan to helm Birds of Prey, we have some additional details on the studio's decision to push back Suicide Squad 2, as well as their plans for Batgirl.
Earlier today, news broke that Warner Bros. had hired, or was in the process of hiring, up-and-coming Dead Pigs director Cathy Yan to helm a movie based on DC's Birds of Prey.
The report mentioned that the decision to move forward with this movie had effectively put the other planned Harley Quinn-centric projects on the backburner, and now thanks to an update from Variety's Justin Kroll, we may have some idea why.
According to him, studio execs were so impressed with Christina Hodson's script that they decided to make Birds of Prey a priority. This also gives them an opportunity to introduce Batgirl - which Hodson is also working on - in a team-based outing before giving her a solo film.
What do you guys think of this approach? It does make sense, but everything depends on Birds of Prey getting fans back on board with this corner of the DCEU after Suicide Squad.
