Warner Bros. Is Developing A HARLEY QUINN-Led Female DC Heroes Movie; BATGIRL & BIRDS OF PREY Rumored
Here's a big story to kick off your week - WB is apparently in the early stages of developing a spin-off film based on DC's female heroes and villains, headlined by Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn!
Warner Bros. must really like what they've seen from Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn in the early cuts of David Ayer's upcoming Suicide Squad because they seem very keen on bringing her back to the big screen much sooner than you would expect.
The Hollywood Reporter has learned that WB is in the very early stages of developing a spin-off film for Robbie's Harley Quinn, however, unlike most spin-offs, this one will not be a solo feature. The untitled project will instead shift the focus to a handful of DC Comics' finest female heroes & villains, and while details are extremely scarce at the moment, Batgirl and the Birds of Prey have been two of the more prominent names rumored to be involved in some capacity.
The yet-to-be titled project is said to be the brainchild of Margot Robbie, who after landing and researching the part of Harley Quinn, became so enamored with her and DC's strong line of female characters that she took it upon herself to find a writer to pen the script for a potential film. The identity of the aforementioned writer remains a mystery, but THR was able to confirm that it is indeed a female. If the film is ultimately greenlit, then Robbie, in addition to headlining the feature, will also serve as a producer.
It's still way too early to determine what this means for the rest of DC's upcoming slate, but if Robbie's Quinn is well-received when the eagerly awaited Suicide Squad hits later this summer, and this project gets fast-tracked, there's certainly a chance a few dates get shifted around. Another thing that would bode well for the film's chances would be if Patty Jenkins' Wonder Woman knocks it out of the park next summer.
