GOTHAM KNIGHTS: Rotten Tomatoes Delivers Most Brutal Critics Consensus Yet After Show Debuts With 18%

Gotham Knights reviews have not been good, and that's reflected in The CW series' Rotten Tomatoes score...and a "Critics Consensus" that might just leave you in stitches. You can check it out here...

Rotten Tomatoes remains a divisive platform, but no matter whether you live and die by those all-important percentages or have no time for them, the site's importance can't be understated.

A "Rotten" score can ruin a movie's chances of box office success, and while they don't hold the same level of importance in the television realm, many viewers do still take note.

As we're sure you're aware, once enough reviews are counted, Rotten Tomatoes generates a "Critics Consensus." That's their summary of the verdicts submitted and a quick way for visitors to the site to get a little explanation behind the score. As for this one...well, this might be their best effort yet.

Gotham Knights premiered on The CW last week. Revolving around the murder of Batman and a group of non-costumed teenagers who set out to solve the crime, interest in the show has been minimal and reviews have been poor. Whoever wrote this "Critics Consensus," however, deserves a raise.

"Never send amateurs to do a Batman's job," the surprisingly brief verdict hilariously reads.

Perhaps the most noteworthy "Critics Consensus" before this one was for Wonder Woman 1984. The sequel initially received glowing reviews and that was reflected in the site's summary; later, when the tide turned and it was deemed "Rotten," that completely changed!

In Gotham Knights, in the wake of Bruce Wayne's murder, his rebellious adopted son forges an unlikely alliance with the children of Batman's enemies when they are all framed for killing the Caped Crusader. And as the city's most wanted criminals, this renegade band of misfits must fight to clear their names.

In a Gotham with no Dark Knight to protect it, the city descends into the most dangerous it's ever been. However, hope comes from the most unexpected places as this team of mismatched fugitives will become its next generation of saviours.

The series stars Oscar Morgan as Turner Hayes, Anna Lore as Stephanie Brown, Olivia Rose Keegan as Duela Dent, Navia Robinson as Carrie Kelley, Fallon Smythe as Harper Row, and Tyler DiChiara as Cullen Row.

This was one of those projects where you kind of just know it will be bad. They should just stop with these CW shows and focus on HBO Max.

His son teams up with the children of Batman’s enemies? So they are copying Disneys Descendants to an extent? And they thought this was a good idea?

So far under Zaslav nothing at DC has changed!

@Forthas - this show's production was well underway before Zaslav ended DC-as-a-Hobby. It won't be until the start of 2024 that we start to see on big and small screens the new direction that Zaslav appointed Gunn to oversee and manage. Frankly, Marvel Studios isn't doing much better, as they are stuck in tje mud of creative mediocrity; they are also in desperate need of a makeover at the top.

@GeneralZod -

Zaslav has the power to cancel all this crap. He cancelled Batgirl and Batman the animated series was sold to Amazon. He kept Velma and this? He suuuuvks!!!!

@AmazingFILMporg - Zaslav is chiefly concerned with (i) rebuilding the heavily damaged DC brand and (ii) dramatically improving revenue. (This is something Bob Iger will find himself doing soon enough with respect to his Marvel Studios and LucasFilm subsidiaries -- stay tuned.) Cancelling stupid TV shows on the CW for which advertisers already contractually committed in 2022 to pay for air time is the last thing Zaslav is going to do. OTOH, cancelling a theatrical release that from every indication promised more monetary damage than financial gain is hard to second-guess. Zaslav is a high-level guy (with many other fish to fry at WB) and has given marching orders to Gunn to fix the mess at WB/DC. Again, the rest of 2023 is to make use of the balance sheet and use the already-created inventory. 2024 is when audiences will no longer see DC-as-a-Hobby.

@GeneralZod - Zaslav's sole intention is to make revenue by whatever means necessary even if he has to milk out and turn to NFTs like how he intends to turn Lord of the Rings into a franchise despite the journey of the movies being over for almost a decade ago. And also protecting the criminal ass of Ezra Miller. This is also not taking right in consideration that he wants to milk the cash cow of Harry Potter again in light of the underwhelming performance of last year's Magical Beasts.

His cancellation spree of TV shows extended beyond just The CW, as he went after nearly all animated finished projects on HBO and canceled upcoming ones that were in the making and even unrenewed shows that were in the middle of the shooting or close to finishing just to save money because poor old WB is "too bankrupt" to sustain itself and not actually paid said debt by actually sticking with the content creators and their visions.

Had Black Adam met expectations that he lauded as "beautiful" and also Shazam if WBD actually spend budget on proper marketing maybe his decision making on tax writing off Batgirl and shitting on the whole crew would be better appreciated now, but the opposite has happened. So far everything has been nothing but majors Ls after another. It's almost like that is his own hobby: moronic executive decisions that are not doing any favours to WB.

@NinnesMBC - All fair points, but i think we need to give him 3 years to judge, not 8 months. He is going all-in with Gunn, who maybe isn't perfect, but at least was an avid comic book reader during the Bronze Age of comics and knows the DC characters.

I feel like there's a mandate at WB to create really bad tv shows that's about batman but only using/creating supporting characters. I don't even know who would signed off on this and say this is a great idea.

I'm all for a reimagining, but this just felt like an exploitation of IP. Plus the premise of Batman being dead, is pretty much a deal-breaker for me, unless Helena Wayne's involved.🤣

"Revolving around the murder of Batman and a group of non-costumed teenagers who set out to solve the crime ...." Isn't this the basic premise of Scooby-Doo?
