Supergirl: Has Milly Alcock Really Removed All DCU References From Social Media?

Milly Alcock has removed several Supergirl posts from Instagram, sparking speculation that she's distancing herself from the DCU. But has the actress really erased all mention of the movie? Not quite.

If you've ventured on to social media today, chances are you've seen a lot of chatter surrounding Supergirl star Milly Alcock supposedly erasing all mention of the DC Studios movie from her Instagram account.

That's since taken on a life of its own, with some speculating that she's distancing herself from the DCU, despite reportedly having a lead role in next summer's Man of Tomorrow. So, has Alcock really scrubbed all mention of the movie that grossed only $126.4 million and is rated a "Rotten" 52% on Rotten Tomatoes?

Not exactly. While the actress has taken down many of the promotional posts tied to the movie, the first trailer and photos from various interviews from Supergirl—including the press tour—are still there.

Alcock has deleted the announcement that she'd been cast as Supergirl's lead, but there appears to be a good reason for this.

Her account is now very photoshoot-heavy, creating a more professional aesthetic that the Australian actress may be seeking as she enters the next phase of her career. A comic book panel from Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow doesn't really fit that, which likely explains its absence.

Still, being cast as the DCU's Kara Zor-El was a career milestone for the House of the Dragon star, so it's easy to understand why some fans are disappointed that it's now vanished.

So, no, despite what you see in posts like the one below, Alcock has not deleted all mention of Supergirl from her Instagram account!

In its inaugural flight into the new DC Cinematic Universe, Supergirl reveals the origin of the interplanetary nomad Kara Zor-El, a.k.a. Supergirl, cousin of Kal-El, better known as Superman. Headstrong, worldly-wise, and often reckless, Supergirl exudes a brand of heroism all her own—truthful, relatable, and always on her own terms.

But when an unexpected and ruthless adversary strikes too close to home, Kara reluctantly joins forces with an unlikely companion. Together they undertake an epic, interstellar journey, struggling to balance their need for vengeance with the pursuit of justice—and to save the life of Kara’s best friend, her dog Krypto. Ultimately, Supergirl will prove that doing good can be tough... and it doesn’t always have to be nice.

Supergirl stars Milly Alcock, Matthias Schoenaerts, Eve Ridley, David Krumholtz, Emily Beecham, David Corenswet, and Jason Momoa. The film is written by Ana Nogueira and directed by Craig Gillespie. DC Studios heads Peter Safran and James Gunn produced the film.

"Bad writing, gratuitous cameos, and uninspired visuals take us back to the bad old days of the DCEU in Supergirl," we wrote in our review, "a showcase for the super-talented Milly Alcock, but Kryptonite to anyone who likes good superhero movies."

Supergirl is now streaming on HBO Max.

She didn’t deserve all that hate about her appearance

The memes were straight up mean

There were some really unflattering shots but it was bullying! Chill people she’s human!

Now that I’m thinking about it, I don’t really care that much, she has millions, and doesn’t have to worry about what the vast majority of the world has to worry about - food, necessities, etc

If you’re gonna put yourself in the spotlight, better be ready for hate AND love

@RichardGrayson - The memes were funny for a second but she didn't deserve how far it went. Movie wasn't great but she was fantastic. Hoping she has better material to work with in MOT.

@RichardGrayson - When you're a "celebrity" and in the public spotlight, you are totally open to ridicule.

Politicans, athletes, actors, etc get trashed in the media, which they almost always deserve imo.
They are getting paid tons of money to do very little that actually benefits society. If you live a life of luxury in the public eye, expect to be scrutinized by the unwashed masses.

@Feralwookiee - There is a difference between honest ridicule and straight up insulting her as a person. Why you'd even defend the latter is beyond alarming

FireGunn

@Vigor - I think any rational person can acknowledge that the movie was horrible and the universe is dying but there was never a need to straight up go after her looks for no valid reason. Sure, it'll happen but that doesn't make it right or called for.
Feralwookiee
Feralwookiee - 10/16/2026, 11:58 AM
@FireGunn - I defend criticism, scrutiny, ridicule, and insults because they're all valid and even necessary components of free speech.

I know this site skews younger, but I grew up in a generation where people voiced their opinions, "positive" or "negative" openly without being nagged and whined at by the thoughtpolice.

Again, if you are in the public eye, you take the good with the bad.

@Feralwookiee - Two things at once though right?

Like people should generally be shamed for harassing people over their looks while still defending their "right" to do that. Grown men acting like total horses A$$ES towards someone online because they didn't like her portrayal as Supergirl (lol) rightly earn mockery and condemnation (not from government/authorities) but just you know, culture.

Feralwookiee - 10/16/2026, 12:18 PM
@Lucasberg - Why would you assume only "grown men" are the one's acting like horses asses online?

Surely, a large portion of the people being critical of her were female or "other".
People are mocked for their appearances all the time, whether in public or in private; you, me, the Pope... everyone's fair game.
Life is tough, so best to have a thick skin.
Opinions are just that, not facts.
Lucasberg
Lucasberg - 10/16/2026, 12:23 PM
@Feralwookiee - ooh good catch. I didn't mean only grown men. I was just illustrating the most embarrassing element of this stuff to me. Sucks when anyone attacks someone for how they look though dude. I mean yes I'm 43 and grew up with this as normal - and while I agree it needs to be a freedom - just saying, its no stretch to say that its morally a$$hoe to do that to someone.
FireGunn
FireGunn - 10/16/2026, 4:44 PM
@Feralwookiee - How is idiots attacking her for her looks and nothing else "Valid and even necessary components of free speech."

"I know this site skews younger, but I grew up in a generation where people voiced their opinions, "positive" or "negative" openly without being nagged and whined at by the thoughtpolice."

Return to tradition fallacy. Just because it existed before, does not make it just. Piss poor argumentation. It's also wrong and false.
FireGunn
FireGunn - 10/16/2026, 4:45 PM
@Feralwookiee - Also, if you're free to insult an actors/actresses looks for no apparent reason, we're free to "nag" and "whine" at you. Free speech works both ways.
FireGunn
FireGunn - 10/16/2026, 4:47 PM
@Lucasberg - At least you get it. The only reason you'd defend something like this is if you'd do it yourself. I'm a huge proponent of free speech and I can still acknowledge that you're a [frick]ing moron if you attack her looks with no other criticism to back it up.

There are people who monitor someone’s social media account just for this purpose and it’s insane when you think about it.

I know the men get hate as well but a lot of what comes to the women way is disgusting. I’ve never checked Gunn’s account but I hope he attempted to protect Milly unlike marvel does a lot of the time.

It’s clearly for aesthetic reasons. Most people have done this from time to time. Hell, some archive everything and start over completely.

She’s a fantastic Kara. I hope to see more of her in the DCU. Hopefully in films with less of Gunn’s involvement.

The golden rule worked before social media. Now the veil of the screen gives people courage to say the ugly thoughts they have inside, out loud. I don't know if there's any coming back to decency now that Pandora box has been opened

I would never ridicule a person's appearance or something they cannot change. Now if youre a nasty person who is racist or exist, ill let you know here on the web and to your [frick]ing face.

Thats my code

@Vigor - I agree in some ways but would add that probably a big problem here is that the internet makes everything literal.

One important way people connect in person is talking sh!T to each other. Especially dudes. This can actually bring the temperature down when you have someone that you might welcome to dunk on you (and they you) while both at the same time believing that you'd take a bullet for each other.

The internet reduces human interaction down to just words read on a screen where on the one hand people talk like total a$$holes to each other in ways they never would in person, and on the other, people are way more the freak sensitive (myself included) then they would be in person. The internet/text message just amplifies some of our worst tendencies in both our anger and our sensitivities in our interaction with each other. Its terrible dude lol
