Dean Cain Offers His Thoughts On Henry Cavill As Superman

Dean Cain who is best known for portraying Superman in the show Lois And Clark: The New Adventures of Superman recently gave his thoughts about Henry Cavill being cast as The Man Of Steel.

Dean Cain played Superman for four season on the show Lois And Clark The New Adventures Of Superman, and The Belfast Telegraph caught up with Cain to get his thoughts on Henry Cavill being cast in the lead role of Zack Snyder's Man Of Steel.

Said Cain:

"They (journalists) asked me because he's a Brit you know, so they said 'a Brit's going to go play Superman and it's a big deal. How did I feel about that?' like it's a big affront."

"I have no problem with that whatsoever because the reality is the character himself Superman was from another planet but he was raised in the middle of America with small town American values."

"It's a tough role. I think he's going to do fantastically he's a very good actor. You never know what you're going to get into. It's a big role, it's an iconic role. I wish him luck."

"I have one son, he's eleven years old and he's very well aware of that fact(that I played Superman), yes. He gets reminded by his buddies and then he reminds them quickly that he's not really Superman, not even close."

Man Of Steel starts shooting this Summer and will be released in late 2012.

I always liked the "S" on his costume. I just didn't like the rest of the costume much.

My fav live action Superman so far...

^_^

Proud and preachy 'Cainite' here ;D

btw- It's funny for Cain to sort of give his blessing to Cavill since Cain was also looked to as an "ethnic" Superman. Much like Cavill for being a "brit" Superman. Neither one really fit the typical Superman ethnic mold for the audience. So it's great to finally hear Cain's thoughts on Cavill and the issue of his ethnicity.

better than welling not better than christopher reeve.

@marvel72- Hahaha, well he's better than routh and welling for sure. Routh was just a one-off Superman who did no real acting in SR. Welling just blows at everything.

reeve i get is the fan-favorite. But his Superman was a bit too smug. I liked the somewhat more...humble/human portrayal by Cain.

btw- Nice avatar 'marvel72'

I got a chance to meet Dean Cain. A real humble guy. It's good he isnt hating Henry for being British. I actually think his Superman was underrated. It didn't clone Donners version, but it didn't stray far from the mythos.

Now the guy who played Luthor on that show was f'in horrible lol.

Oh and for those mentioning that he's a "B" list actor...seem to forget that Routh too is a "B" list actor. Most of his stuff are either Indies or other b-level stuff. Dylan Dog...b-level. Scott Pilgrim i believe was also b-level. SR was his one real big-break from "B" to "A" list. But again that was just a one-shot and i believe he's either gone back to doing indies or soaps.

@ClarkFarley2012- Hahaha ok you're being more fair. BUT I actually preferred John Shea's Lex over Gene Hackman's. Hackman's was way too hokey-jokey. Wasn't threatening at all. Shea's version at least was a corrupt CEO of Lexcorp, just like he should have been in the damn movies. Plus he had way more elaborate schemes than the petty land-grabbing movie version.

Dean Cain= my fav live action Superman.

John Shea and Michael Rosenbaum= my fav live action Lex Luthors.

As a child i related more to Cain's Clark/Superman than the Reeve version. The Cain version was way more humble and had more overall humility, he made mistakes...but he learned on the show. Plus he was closer to his mother, asking her advice on how to get a bomb-stain out of his suit...that was pretty cool. His Clark Kent was also cooler and more suave, not some bumbling retard like the Donner take. Probably also me being mixed white/asian ethnicity much like mister Cain himself didn't hurt much either ;D

@theWorld

Strange that Supes had a tan, huh? But he was still cool.

@mbomb22

That's all he's up to now. As long as he can support his family.

@LP4

Preach, my friend.

The proudest line in his years as Supes to this day still has the best message, "Superman is what I can do, Clark Kent is who I am." Best portrayal of both city/farm Clark. Cool guy. Hopefully Henry can be great as well.

I'm a fan of his version of Superman, and especially the first season of his show.

@Razor, haha, I'm the exact opposite, I liked the costume but always thought the S looks a little too round and juvenile.

anyways, I hope to hear more from MOS soon. I know that Cavil is probably hidden away somewhere pumping iron, (hopefully). I can't wait to see him in the suit and see what kind of flavor Snyder and Nolan give the suit.

I have been watching Lois and Clark lately on netflix and I ahve to say it is entertaining. Dean did a good job with Superman, his Clark was not quite bumbling enough though. But all in all he did a really good job.

I always liked Dean Cain for Superman, I had no idea that he had some Asian ancestry until a year or so ago. He looks Caucasian enough to me though. I always liked his tan and always felt that Superman should have some type of complexion and not be all pale. He does fly up close to the sun a lot y'know! lol

@LP4: Brandon Routh is a D-List actor. His ass wishes he was in the B-List! lmao

I really like Dean and think he's a fine actor, but he never seemed like Superman to me. My list best to least favorite actor as Supes (not movie/show):

Christopher Reeve
Brandon Routh
George Reeves
Tom Welling
Kirk Alyn
Dean Cain

Hey it's just my opinion okay!

.....interesting how all the Smallville "faithfuls" have turned their backs. Dean made a great Superman but not a very good Clark. They were too much alike. Still an awsome show, have all the seasons.

I have stopped dissing Cain's Superman. At least he had the guts to put on the suit and I have to give him a lot of credit and respect for that. I liked him as Clark but not so much as Superman - until Welling chickened out.
Running past the camera in a Superman T shirt doesn't count. A head shot with a CGI flapping cape behind it also doesn't count. They might as well have used a Kirk Alyn cartoon.

@Nephillim- Dude what the [frick] are you talking about? I never said a WORD to you. I never even read your comment. I just left a comment to all the people who dissed Cain for being b-list. Lots of people here on CBM say that garbage about him when in reality Routh himself is b-list. But like i said, lots of people here on cbm trash Cain like that all over CBM so my comment was directed at EVERYONE who disses him like that. I never directed any comments at you.

I never said a word to you. So before you start dissing me and saying i have a "hard on" for Superman, why don't you look in the mirror, you are also leaving comments on Superman articles, no? I didn't even know you mentioned he was a b-list actor for fu*ks sake!

And i stand by what i said- Routh was THE WORST THING to happen to Superman. Welling too. That is why Superman can never seem to be taken seriously these days because of SHIT actors like Routh and Welling who ruin his image for the public.

@McGribble- hahaha you felt Dean Cain's Clark Kent "wasn't quite bumbling enough" ?

I'm happy he wasn't bumbling. lol. I got sick of that garbage from the Donner films.

Enjoyed the show for what it was. Enjoyed many of the portrayals of Superman over the years, although I never got into Smallville. Even though I was disappointed withe story in Superman Returns, I thought Routh did alright.

Best portrayal ever of Superman and Clark so far, though is definitley Christopher Reeve.

Hackman's a great actor, but I never liked Luthor in those movies, but it was how the character was written. His Luthor could have been fantasitc if he had been written as both a genius and a threatening menace.
