"WIKAPEDIA?!?!" Hahaha.

Henry Cavill acts like Supes without even trying. That makes me happy. :D

LMAO

And yeah Cavill IS Superman. He'll erase the nasty memories of Routh/Welling once and for all! ;D

btw- I got really happy when Cavill said he read "Red Son" and "New Krypton" those are some of favorite books. But when he mentioned "Superman Returns" as one of the sources he studied...I'm wondering if he meant the actual MOVIE or a book...???

If he meant the movie or even a book based on that particular movie...I think we're in trouble here. I didn't want Cavill to study ANYTHING from "Superman Returns" if anything he should be studying what NOT to do from that film.

Oh well...

@ LP4: Maybe the reason why Henry is studying Superman Returns is to learn the mistakes it made so it will not happen again.
LP4
LP4 - 7/24/2011, 2:25 AM
@mastarockafella- Dude I hope you're right about that. I'd hate it for Cavill to have to study 'Superman Returns' as a way to prepare for his role.

I don't wanna see Cavill imitate the imitator of Chris Reeve if y'know what i mean.

This guy reminds me so much of Reeves! I can see why he's a great fit to be Superman...

@njferns- Funny, he doesn't remind me at all of Reeve. Nor SHOULD he. Cavill shouldn't have to "live up to" the image of Reeve at any point in his Superman portrayal.

Snyder said it himself- this film has NO connection to all the donner stuff. SO this film and its cast should never be compared to the donner cast nor held to a certain standard based on the donner cast.

~just saying.
LP4
LP4 - 7/24/2011, 3:29 AM
@njferns- Sorry if I came off as a bit "preachy" but I figured by this point people were finally TIRED of Reeve and the Donner universe. I'm personally disgusted that Superman has to be bound and chained to Reeve and Donner like some sick puppy.

Time to move on...and time to embrace the FUTURE.

@LP4 Yeah Cavill meant to say "Return of Superman" which is a very good book

I agree that this new Superman should not imitate the previous movies. And in that regard, neither should Zod i.e Michael Shannon.

Is this on main. I can't get on main.

@GDSUPERGUY- I don't know...he said and I quote-

"This guy reminds me so much of Reeves! I can see why he's a great fit to be Superman..."

I remember a lot of the routh-bootists kept saying and joking how Cavill still looks like Reeve.

My whole point is- I'm sick of people bringing up Reeve as if he still holds relevance for this film. REEVE IS IN THE [frick]ING PAST PEOPLE. Let's all move on and have better lives.

I for one am happy we won't get another Reeve-impersonation in this film. God dammit that had to be the dumbest [frick]ing idea Singer ever came up with.

@JM4Superman- I don't know man...watch the video again and listen carefully...Cavill said "Superman Returns"

That doesn't sound anything like "Return of Superman"

Sounds more like the title of a certain, shitty piece of ass film from 2006 I seem to remember.
LP4
LP4 - 7/24/2011, 9:11 AM
and btw- I don't think seeming like Reeve automatically makes someone a great Superman. There's more to being a great fit for Superman other than being just like Reeve. He isn't the end-all, be-all.

Seems like there are soooo few people on this site who actually want a GOOD Superman film. They just want more Reeve. I can't wait for this reboot to come out so all the Reeve people can finally stop talking about him.
CaptainTall
CaptainTall - 7/24/2011, 9:41 AM
I'm not afraid to admit that I am in love with this man in every conceivable heterosexual way possible.

@LP4, Dude, why all the hate on Donner and Reeves? They defined the character to what he is now. The movie doesn't need to be chained to it, sure, because it needs to go above and beyond it, I agree.

But Reeves portrayal was genius. Especially his Clark Kent.

Plus it was the movie that got all this started anyway.

Cavill can go above and beyond what Reeves did, but Reeves is the reason Superman is how he is. Donner is the reason Lois is how she is.

And there's no doubt that the comparisons will get tiring, after all, the Marvelites need something bash, you know?

But really, show some respect to Reeves and Donner.

When Superman caught the bullet, I literally stood up on the couch and cheered, because I Was blown away.

Lets hope Snyder (favorite director) can deliver such a genre-defining movie as well.

VERY good novelized version of 40 or so Superman comics.

@MegaMattMOS- I WOULD show respect but so many people on this [frick]ing site act like EVERYTHING Superman must go through the blessings of Reeve and Donner and I'm sorry but those two didn't create Superman. I grew up with Daly and Cain as my Superman. I know many others who feel the same way too.

I would show more respect IF people would quit kissing the feet of Donner and Reeve constantly in every single Superman-related article or webpage conceivable.

It gets irritating.
LP4
LP4 - 7/24/2011, 11:43 AM
Check through the entirety of Superman articles and you will see Chris Reeve takes over the majority of the shit. Go through Batman articles and i guarantee you won't see nearly as many articles mentioning Keaton.

Keaton's Batman influenced my childhood way more than Reeve's Superman. Just being honest and yeah- the truth must hurt. Sorry if I'm sick and tired of Reeve constantly getting worshiped. Reeve and Donner got their 2 hour film tribute at the expense of Superman being KILLED on the big screen in 2006. It is time for Superman to evolve finally.

Neither Reeve nor Donner should EVER be given credit for the way Superman is today. Read more comics man. The only comics the Reeve Superman really ever left an impression with was- "Secret Origins" and that's because they designed that Superman on Reeve. But look at any other comics- Superman is COMPLETELY different from the Reeve version. The comic book Superman fights a billionaire Lex Luthor and his Clark is actually pretty suave and not some bumbling retard. The only comics that made Clark Kent a bumbling retard again are the Reeve-based Superman comics- Secret Origins (maybe) but i remember reading a comic called- "Superman Brainiac" and that Superman was solely based on the Reeve/Donner version of Superman and even the Clark Kent was bumbling too.

Honestly, I'm SICK AND TIRED of people constantly worshiping Reeve. It's over. He got his tribute film.

Now it's HENRY CAVILL'S TURN PEOPLE

It is selfish and wrong for people to say things like "oh he's so much like Chris Reeve"

NO it needs to stop. Reeve/Donner have NOTHING TO [frick]ING DO WITH THIS MOVIE. I don't know how many times i must stress this shit to you people.
LP4
LP4 - 7/24/2011, 11:45 AM
Oh and furthermore @MegaMattMOS- I don't see how i was being "disrespectful" by just saying I didn't want Cavill to impersonate Reeve. I only said that and the fact that this film has nothing to do with Reeve so constantly worshiping him in every article is lame and tired.

I am the only one on this site who is BRAVE enough to be HONEST and tell it like it is. If people don't agree- FINE. But I'm done with Reeve being that "be-all, end-all" for Superman.

CaptainTall
CaptainTall - 7/24/2011, 11:57 AM
@LP4, Honestly it's pretty much you half the time that brings up Chris Reeves.

I get what you are saying, it is time for Superman to get out of Reeves' shadow.

But unlike Batman, Superman hasn't had a successful portrayal since Reeve's. Keaton had Bale. Superman.... had Routh. And we all know how badly that turned out.

When talks of a Batman reboot come out, trust me, everyone will compare it to Bale and Nolan.

And I'm 100% excited for Man Of Steel to blow me, you, and everyone else (including Reeves) right out of our minds with how amazing it will be.

I get your annoyance. I have my fair share of annoyance's on this site as well.

And hey, if we get lucky, twenty, thirty years from now it could be Snyder and Cavill.
LP4
LP4 - 7/24/2011, 12:04 PM
@MegaMattMOS- No I get that but if you look back on all the earliest articles too, it's always some jackass bringing up Reeve. I usually only brought up Reeve when some other jerk brings up Reeve as the greatest and starts kissing that guy's feet. That is usually the time i bring up Reeve or respond to those comments about Reeve.

It's not fair to Snyder and Cavill. Donner and Reeve are done. They are DONE. I just don't get why people keep wanting to go back and cling to those old movies.

JDUKE25
JDUKE25 - 7/24/2011, 12:06 PM
@MegaMattMOS haha it's cool dude, i've watched that first video at least five times lol.

@LP4 yeah man, I don't want to see any influence of Reeve in this movie. As good as he was, it's time to move on and i'm glad Snyder has stressed that point that this will have nothing to do with previous movies. You don't see Christian Bale doing things Adam West, Michael Keaton, and (the others) did. New movie, new way of portraying the character.

Oh, and Cavill is gonna rock, woo!
LP4
LP4 - 7/24/2011, 12:17 PM
Do you people want to see more of THIS...???!

Or something more like...

THIS

I guarantee- 90% of this site will claim that they want the top picture to be what MOS should aspire to and that just shouldn't be the case.

Zack Snyder I guarantee will give us a Superman who is lack for a better term- more VICIOUS. As he should. Too many films we've had about an effeminate Superman.

Time for the guy to MAN UP for a change. Over 2 decades is a long enough wait for him to grow a pair and finally FIGHT and KICK SOME ASS.

@MegaMattMOS true, Supes still has to retain his kindness and loyalty to the law. But yeah, I just have to see him display his powers like we've never seen on the big screen before. Surely Snyder will be the one to bring us that.
LP4
LP4 - 7/24/2011, 12:26 PM
I don't want MOS to be solely action. But they do need to make up for the terrible lack of action and terrible lack of a single punch in the last movie...and for the weak action scenes (if any) in the Reeve stuff.

@JDUKE- Thanks man!!! Glad you see the light. lol. Seriously, I don't remember Bale ever having to imitate Keaton or West. West is just as legendary with Batman as Reeve was with Superman. Same with Keaton as Batman. But what did Batman get? A complete REBOOT. No mention of Keaton nor West.

Last Superman film all we got was Chris Reeve all over again...give me a break. But yeah JDUKE I hope we get the Superman we've waited soooo long for.

and no offense to Reeve. I respect the guy for being Superman...in some...really old movies before i was even [frick]ing born. But THIS was the Superman of my generation.

Thank you Mr. Daly for giving us fans, a suave/confident Clark Kent. Thank you for STRESSING the point that Lex Luthor is a BILLIONAIRE GENIUS CEO OF LEXCORP and not some hack with real-estate.

Thank you Mr. Daly for giving us a Superman who was manly and soft at the same time. He KNEW when it was the right time to bring in some much-needed ACTION.

HIS. SUPERMAN. FOUGHT. PERIOD.

He threw a punch and in fact...threw many punches, slammed his opponents and heat-visioned them in the face.

This was the real Superman right here.

JDUKE25
JDUKE25 - 7/24/2011, 12:31 PM
I know I'm nit-picking here, but with Supes hair, it should be kind of messed up with the curl just barely taking form, just enough to see it. Like those pics @LP4 posted above. Routh's was too perfectly placed and the curl looked ridiculous, and looked kind of feminine honestly. Supes should have a more ruthless and tough look to him, just not terrifying, just have the look in those pics above.
JDUKE25
JDUKE25 - 7/24/2011, 12:34 PM
@LP4 I couldn't agree with you more. That definitely was the Superman of my generation. Him and Lex were portrayed so amazingly well.
