he would of been a terrible superman

superman imo is the hardest character to cast it is not as simple as casting a white brunette male

he has to have that look of innocence to him it is something henry cavill and chris reeve had in spades

@blitzkrieg

Not sure if you're joking, but I'mma refute your point anyway just so nobody else gets any ideas.

The reason Michael Keaton worked as Batman outside the suit was BECAUSE he was, as you said, a 'short, ugly man'. Who the hell would ever suspect THAT guy to be Batman? They wouldn't! And that's exactly why he worked as Bruce Wayne because even the audience couldn't see the guy as Batman, yet when he put the costume on, he totally owned the role.

I must admit I do like the idea of Superman Lives. For the fact that Braniac was going to be the villain and its modern ideas. I can admit Nic is a bit questionable for the role but he is at least 6 ft tall and I like the look of his suit. And I can imagine if Kevin Spacey played Lex at the time with a good script he could have been a good Luthor. Plus it attempted the shared universe thing with Keatons Batman. Looking forward to seeing the documentery.

Eh, Nick Cage might have worked in a shared universe with Tim Burton’s Batman.
@blitzkreg, you are not alone, I don’t think Michael Keaton was the ideal choice to play Batman, especially being a fan of the still-relevant depictions by Denny O'Neil, Neal Adams, Mike Grell, Dick Giordano and even Frank Miller.

@kurban and @kevberg, hear me out: Michael Keaton did not embody those stylized Bronze and Silver-Age influences…and that’s EXACTLY why he was a great choice… FOR THAT TIME.

In the mid- 80's, Batman was not remotely respected in pop culture like he is today. The average non-comic book reader considered Adam West and silly Bob Kane stories as the definitive Batman. As successful as the Nolan franchise was, it only exists because Tim Burton, and by extension, Keaton, got the chance to resurrect and redefine Batman according to Burton’s odd sensibilities. Keaton’s Batman could exist in the same world as Beetlejuice, Edward Scissorhands and Big Fish, adding gravitas to Batman in a time when the general audience only knew him from the Superfriends cartoon.

But…for those who always loved Batman from the more serious comic books, Keaton wasn’t the epitome of Bruce Wayne. Call me a heretic, but I don’t believe we have EVER seen a superlative live action Batman (despite Bruce Timm and Kevin Conroy NAILING it).

To his credit, Michael Keaton totally owned the darkly quirky Burton material he was given. Likewise, Christian Bale fit the grounded world Christopher Nolan created, so my vague dissatisfaction with that trilogy is because of the approach rather than the actors.

Photos so far give me hope that BatFleck will fully embrace the character’s fantastical comic book roots rather than redefining or running away from what comic book enthusiasts love about the character.

Just can't picture Nic Cage as Superman

@ImperiousRex

Oh, I would never say Keaton was the definitive Batman. (That honor still goes to Kevin Conroy) I wouldn't even say he's second-best as I actually prefer Christian Bale's to his, but only slightly. I'm hoping Affleck nails what makes Batman Batman, and what from I've seen so far of BvS, that looks to be the case.
