Rumor has it that The Last son of Krypton's pop-pop will be none other the thunder from down under himself, Russell Crowe. The three time academy award nominee and one time winner (Gladiator) is said to be up for the most famous dad in comicbook mythology--No, nerds, Lord Vader doesn't count as a comicbook dad.

But, at age forty seven and having been out of the leading light for years, the New Zealand born actor has been less than super in the fitness department. Now it looks like the actor is looking to return to form and is partaking in some grueling and intense work-out.

Last sunday, the actor took to his twitter to inform his fans on the work-outs.

Does this mean that Jor-El will make more than just a brief cameo in Man of Steel? If so, I'm glad that Russell Crowe is getting back in shape. Marlon Brando looked like such a sack in Superman 1978.

not necessarily it could just mean that the guys finally realised that he's really let him self go since Gladiator.

Did they even confirm him being Jor-El, yet?

I want everyone to be more physical in this movie. The old films- Lex, Jor-El, SUPERMAN...none of them were ever physical.

If this film introduces a more rough'n'tumble- Superman, Lex and Jor-El then hellz yes I'll be on board. ;D

I know people loved the Donner universe but honestly it was very boring.

Awesome, but I really hope they spend a lot of time on Krypton (hopefully they learned from GL not showing enough of OA).

Obviously they'll set up the Zod story there but they can also set up Brainiac, Doomsday, and whoever else for future sequels if they do it right.

I think Russell Crowe will own this role and bring some emotion into the character. Brando was very alien when his world was coming to an end and when he gave away his only sun, classic but Alien, Crowe will bring the modern day audience closer to the scale of the disaster. This movie is looking good...so far

@Juwon- You phrased it PERECTLY!

What we need in 'Man of Steel' is a Jor-El who has some emotions. Brando did indeed seem very...indifferent about his oncoming demise.

I would like to actually see Crowe's Jor-El fight Zod in a bit of hand-to-hand...like...obviously before Krypton blew up. Maybe in this film Zod could have something to do with Krypton's destruction- evil, rogue Kryptonian general...I could see Zod having some part in Krypton's ultimate destruction and we could actually see Jor-El in a more heroic light. Rather than being more accepting of his destruction like he was in the very flat Donner films, maybe in this film he could literally fight AGAINST his destiny to die. Obviously he will HAVE to die but I'd actually like to see this new Jor-El try to avert Krypton's destruction moreso than he did in the (I'm going to say it again) very FLAT Donner films. ;D

That's always been my damn issue with the Donner stuff. Yeah they were ok for the time-period- early 80's and all. But come on...we had a Superman who never really fought much, a Jor-El who lacked emotion...a Krypton we didn't get to see very much of...and kind of a lame explanation of Krypton's destruction.

In THIS film I wanna see more of Krypton! If we've learned anything from GL and Thor it's that WB needs to show off more of Krypton in this film. GL could have shown off more of Oa but it didn't...Thor could have shown off more of Asgard...but it didn't. 'Man of Steel' needs to seriously pimp-out Krypton like no other. And we need a better reason this time for Krypton's destruction...i think in the first film the reasoning had something to do with the collapse of the red Sun of Krypton...how about an actual VILLAIN destroys Krypton in this film...? ;D

If Zod, then that would make the battle for Superman more of a personal thing which would be great and refreshing.

It's good that we'll get to see both Jor-El and Russell Crowe back in shape! Marlon Brando's El stuck in people's heads about their interpretation on how Jor-El should be seen on the big screen, so it's cool to see someone's finally breaking the cycle. Hopefully we'll see a more vigor, youthful (Black Haired), physically capable take on the Kryptonian scientist.

@LP4 Thor showed enough of Asgard, the necessary amount it had the right balance, it introduced the world, showed us how it worked for the 1st half of the movie and it kept switching back and forth when it was on Earth. We don't have to spend that much time on Krypton.

@Hellsing- Maybe...but we definitely need to see more of Krypton than we did in the Donner films.

I have seen him on his bike. He is out everyday in Naperville. I stayed across the hall from him last week in the hotel.
