As the 12-day shoot begins in Plano, Illinois, the town has already began changing the way its operates in preparation for what could be one of this year's greatest tourist attractions. Because of the confidentiality agreement we may not know what exactly is going to be shot there until shooting actually begins but local business such as Uncle Lar's pizza has been turned into Smallville's Best pizza and you can't forget about the already leaked photos of the 7-Eleven and Sears.
With a Population of only 10,900 construction has been going on for a while now. Only 60 miles from Chicago local mayor Bob Hausler had a few things to say about the town.
“I heard a rumor that we did have a person pull up to the pump. One thing they like is the atmosphere of our community, We’re a small town and (Warner Bros.) wanted a small-town feel to it. They also liked that it’s close to Chicago.”
He also mentions that he may be interested in building a Superman museum to keep tourism, already local businesses are selling Superman merchandise. At one local BP gas station near East South Street is even selling cookies and doughnuts bearing Superman rings on them and even requiring their employees to wear Superman t-shirts.
Local bar owner Sue Armour, who owns Hard Daze bar that will be uses for filming scenes this Thursday has said she is not only sold out of t-shirts but has seen a huge jump in business.
“I think everyone is excited about it, but we all live in a small town and are used to our small town, As exciting as it is, it’ll be nice to get back to normal. It’s really an asset to our community and is something that will never be forgotten And any time you can bring more people in, they are going to visit our different establishments and buy food at our restaurants and buy gas at our gas stations — other than 7-Eleven.”
