MAN OF STEEL Running Time Revealed; Zack Snyder Promises References To The DC Universe

Empire Magazine met with Man of Steel director Zack Snyder while he was putting together his final cut of the movie, meaning that they learned roughly how long it will run for. Snyder meanwhile discusses the 3D conversion and referencing the greater DC Universe.

Zack Snyder's Watchmen has received numerous extended editions since its theatrical release in 2009, but according to Empire Magazine's Man of Steel set report, that won't happen with Man of Steel. Rather than imitating Christopher Nolan's butt-numbing The Dark Knight Trilogy with a running time of 160+ minutes, the final cut of Man of Steel will be around two hours and ten minutes and Snyder says that, "The movie is the director's cut." Talk then turned to the arguably controversial decision to convert the movie to 3D. However, the director said that seeing some test footage was enough to convince him that there was no need to shoot in the format. "It is just my humble opinion, but it is better than native now. By the way, we like to think that the 3D is just another way of seeing the movie. It is not Superman 3D, it is Man of Steel, available in 3D." Finally, while he refused to give anything specific away, it certainly sounds as if Man of Steel really is the beginning of a cinematic universe for DC. "I have been making references to the DC Universe, just to let you know that world is out there..." he teased.

In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time. Clark Kent/Kal-El (Henry Cavill) is a young twenty-something journalist who feels alienated by powers beyond his imagination. Transported years ago to Earth from Krypton, a highly advanced, distant planet, Clark struggles with the ultimate question 'Why am I here?' Shaped by the values of his adoptive parents Martha (Diane Lane) and Jonathan Kent (Kevin Costner), Clark discovers having extraordinary abilities means making difficult decisions. When the world is in dire need of stability, an even greater threat emerges. Clark must become a Man of Steel, to protect the people he loves and shine as the world’s beacon of hope – Superman.

STARRING:

Henry Cavill as Clark Kent/Superman
Amy Adams as Lois Lane
Kevin Costner as Jonathan Kent
Diane Lane as Martha Kent
Michael Shannon as Zod

RELEASE DATE: June 14th, 2013.

"It is not Superman 3D, it is Man of Steel, available in 3D."

That's how every movie should be. I'm sick of all this 3D bull spit, and adding 3D to the movie titles.

Holy shit! Warner Bros is actually capable of putting out a movie with a reasonable length. That 2 1/2 or more length was starting to become bullshit. Glad they're Marvel-izing it. Still not a fan of Superman, I'm glad they have it were its a length that is watchable.
Supes17
Supes17 - 4/23/2013, 1:16 PM
How are they going to fit the war on krypton, clark growing up as a child, clark travelling the world as an adult, becoming superman, and the major battles with Zod and his army into 2 hrs and 10 mins without making it a cluster[frick] rushed movie? Nothing's impossible I guess lol

I want more than just names of DC cities like Star and Gotham. There is a difference between referencing the larger DC universe and just dropping easter eggs here and there. This needs to be their set up film to a future Worlds Finest or a JL movie. Running time- would have liked 2:20 maybe 2:30 but if its good its good no matter the time.
kalisto2010
kalisto2010 - 4/23/2013, 1:25 PM
Hey, whatever happened to that to that BIG reveal that DC said they were dropping in 2 weeks 3 weeks ago? These WB exces are so full fail when it comes to the JL it's not even funny. I mean how hard is it to hire a proven writer and director, along with a strong cast? We're not asking you to cure cancer here, so stop dragging your feet and get the ball rolling, cast someone, anyone, name a director, I mean ANYTHING.

thewonderer

kalisto, they said they were going to announce something in the coming weeks. 2 weeks is hardly the [frick]ing time to start insulting them.

How about you get some goddamn patience and wait. Ever think they're doing things in the background? Just because El Mayimbe doesn't have the false scoop, doesn't mean they aren't doing it.

WB is being smart about this. There are A LOT of problems with the MCU. Efficiently analyzing the flaws of your opponent would yield a better product.
