It sounds like Blue Beetle will be unleashing the full might of the Scarab in James Gunn's Man of Tomorrow.
Xolo Maridueña didn't give away any spoilers in a recent chat with ScreenRant, but he heavily implied that the Reach's most advanced weapon will be pushing the limits of its adaptive omni-tech to the fullest when Brainiac arrives to conquer or perhaps shrink and bottle the planet.
Maridueña teased, "I feel tremendously humbled that what we created outside of what is now the DCU has been embraced by James Gunn and the rest of the people over at DC. And all I can say is that we’re coming back with 'fire'. I can’t wait."
On the flip side, it's worth raising the possibility that maybe Blue Beetle doesn't work on the side of the heroes.
As a purely tech hero, it's not impossible that a 12th-level intellect like Brainiac, who is capable of processing and overriding almost any cosmic computer system in existence, could hack the Scarab and take control of Jaime Reyes.
Given Blue Beetle's adaptability and the fact that the Scarab can analyze threats and rewrite its own structure to counter them in real-time, it would become a real threat to Superman and the Justice Gang, especially if Brainiac was at the controls.
David Corenswet and Nicholas Hoult's Superman and Lex Luthor are going to be forced to team up to stop Lars Eidinger's Brainiac in the 2027 superhero film but their combined defense of the planet also includes:
- Edi Gathegi's Mister Terrific
- Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner/Green Lantern
- Aaron Pierre as John Stewart/Green Lantern
- Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl
- María Gabriela de Faría as The Engineer
- Milly Alcock's Supergirl
- Xolo Maridueña as Blue Beetle
- Adria Arjona as Maxima or Wonder Woman
Several other heroes are rumored to also appear in the film, but we'll keep them labeled as rumor for now.
The Superman follow-up will feature David Corenswet’s Superman and Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor in an unlikely alliance against Lars Eidinger's Brainiac.
Gunn is once again pulling double duty as both the writer and director. Along with Corenswet, Hoult and Eidinger, the main cast includes Rachel Brosnahan reprising her role as Lois Lane along with other returning supporting cast such as Skyler Gisondo, Jimmy Olsen, Isabela Merced's Hawkgirl, Maria Gabriella de Faría's Engineer and Sara Sampaio's Eve Teschmacher.
