Sinqua Walls is best known for roles in Power, Friday Night Lights, and Carry-On. James Gunn has clearly taken note of the actor's talent, casting him in a mystery role in next summer's Man of Tomorrow.
There's been a lot of chatter suggesting Walls' role in the DCU is important, and we now have an intriguing update from scooper @ApocHorseman.
After previously saying that the actor makes a cameo appearance as a DC villain, the insider has now heard that the role is "very physical." While he suggests taking this next part with a pinch of salt, the former Nexus Point News writer has also learned that the character "may set up a future film, whether it's Superman 3 or something else."
While replying to his followers on X, the scooper confirmed he doesn't know who Walls is playing, but noted that villains like Mongul, Metallo, and General Zod would all "make sense." Could there be an even bigger bad than Brainiac?
James Gunn has repeatedly hinted at a long-term plan for the DCU, potentially culminating in a Justice League movie (the groundwork has already been laid for that with the Justice Gang's introduction). With that in mind, the movie's villain may debut in Man of Tomorrow.
Asked if the Justice Gang is leading to the iconic superhero team assembling in this world, the filmmaker previously said, "Yeah, I think you could say that. I don't know why not, but I wouldn't jump the gun with thinking that's going to happen tomorrow."
In Man of Tomorrow, Superman will be forced to team up with Lex Luthor to battle Brainiac, a threat not just to Metropolis but to the entire world.
Written and directed by James Gunn, the movie stars include David Corenswet as Clark Kent/Superman, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Lars Eidinger as Brainiac, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, Frank Grillo as Rick Flag, Sr., Aaron Pierre as John Stewart, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, and Milly Alcock as Supergirl.
Andre Royo, Matthew Lillard, Sinqua Walls, and Adria Arjona will also star. However, as we mentioned above, we still don't know whether the latter is playing Maxima or Wonder Woman. There's also speculation that Eva De Dominici is playing one of the characters, and there's always a chance the Diana Prince rumblings don't pan out. We'll have to wait and see.
Man of Tomorrow arrives in theaters on July 9, 2027.
