Back in the Summer, DC Studios co-chair James Gunn confirmed that the DCU is moving in real-time as the same amount of time that passes in the real world will also have elapsed between the release of Superman and Man of Tomorrow.
Superman was released on July 11, 2025, and Man of Tomorrow is scheduled to be released theatrically in the United States on July 9, 2027. That means we're looking at roughly, a two-year time jump.
Guy Gardner actor Nathan Fillion recently discussed his appearance in the latest episode of HBO's Lanterns but also touched on his upcoming role in the Superman sequel.
He also touched on the time-skip, which triggered plenty of fan theories online, with many speculating that James Gunn and co. might fill in those blank years with spin-off series, animated projects, or solo feature films set entirely during the gap.
Speaking to THR, Fillion stated, "It felt great going back. The first experience was fantastic, so it felt really cool picking up where we left off. It’s not so much that we literally picked up where we left off. There’s been history and things happening since then. But it was a lot of fun to be able to not only revisit these characters, but also see the actors I made friends with on the first project."
In a separate interview with Variety, the Firefly alum also dropped this cryptic tease when asked about Man of Tomorrow: "Within this secret club of the superhero community, there is yet another layer of secret club, the Green Lantern community. It delves one club deeper than the rest of, let’s call them the Justice Gang."
It’s clear the DC Universe isn't just sitting on ice while we wait for the next movie.
By the time audiences are in their seats to watch Man of Tomorrow next year, it sounds like the status quo is going to look completely different from where Superman left off.
Characters will have shifted, new dynamics will be in play, and life will have moved on in the background. Exactly what that means for Clark Kent, Lois Lane, and Lex Luthor is anybody's guess.
The first trailer for Man of Tomorrow is rumored to drop in December, so perhaps we will get our first clues at the end of the year.
David Corenswet and Nicholas Hoult's Superman and Lex Luthor are going to be forced to team up to stop Lars Eidinger's Brainiac in the 2027 superhero film but their combined defense of the planet also includes:

- Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl

- Adria Arjona as Maxima or Wonder Woman
Several other heroes are rumored to also appear in the film, but we'll keep them labeled as rumor for now.
The Superman follow-up will feature David Corenswet’s Superman and Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor in an unlikely alliance against Lars Eidinger's Brainiac.
Gunn is once again pulling double duty as both the writer and director. Along with Corenswet, Hoult and Eidinger, the main cast includes Rachel Brosnahan reprising her role as Lois Lane along with other returning supporting cast such as Skyler Gisondo, Jimmy Olsen, Isabela Merced's Hawkgirl, Maria Gabriella de Faría's Engineer and Sara Sampaio's Eve Teschmacher.
