Michael Shannon Says Man Of Steel Won't Be "Just Fluff"

In a video interview with Indiewire Shannon, who will play General Zod in Zack Snyder's Superman reboot, praises both Snyder and screenwriter David Goyer while revealing that this take will be more "thoughtful" than we might be used to..

Shannon only briefly mentions Man Of Steel at the beginning of the first vid, saying the sets are mind-blowing and it's been a lot of fun to work on but he goes into a little more detail around the 6.38 mark in the second vid. He reiterates that the studio would prefer he doesn't go into too many specifics but he does say that General Zod is a very complicated character and doesn't just have "horns coming out of his head" and that he is a "fully dimensional character". He also says that there is some "very beautiful" writing from David Goyer and says that this take on the Superman story won't be "just fluff", being a more interesting and thoughtful movie that we might be used to seeing in the genre.

seeing Superman and Zod going toe to toe is thoughtful enough for me. Doesn't need to be a masterpiece, I just want a good Superman movie. Superman needs a break, after being demoted to a B-lister with crappy stories, its time for Superman to go back to his former status, hopefully the comic and movie reboot helps him out.

Loki asks Zod something:

If Loki can look cool with horns on his helmet it's ok with me... lol :P

still can't wait for this film! Hope it's good!

For Michael Shannon to say " the script was beautifully written" for a comic book movie it makes me feel real good about this movie. He's not the only one who said the script was really good (Henry Cavill). When alot of actors in the movie have nothing but great things to say about the script then it usually ends up epic!!!

Don't "fluff" me on this, Shannon!!!

@Neek2086- Not saying this movie will be bad but every actor says that about the movie they're in.

I think we all know exactly what he means by "fluff". Fluff doesn't always have to mean "bad", just not really having anything to say.

Anyway I not only really want to see MOS but now Take Shelter too after watching those vids.

I think that by fluff, he meant something trivial and disposable. After WATCHMEN (I know some folks disliked it), I'm sure Snyder can handle the psychology of the characters and put a weight and motivation behind their actions.

Has he mentioned he likes the idea of playing a General?

Every interview he does he is asked "what drew you to the part?" (you mean, besides being immortalized in a huge budget movie as one of the most iconic and famous comic villains of all time)

"umm, being a General i suppose."

yeah, that's what i'd say too.

anyway, love him cast as Zod. Love everything i've seen so far.

bring on 2013.

@TheGODDAMNSUPERGUY - I disagree. Captain was a guy who you really cheer for because he was such a nice dude from the beginning, even when he was a little wimp who had all the reasons to hate the world he was in. No lesson had to be learned like Thor, GL, IM, etc.

So what's exactly the formula you talk about? The hero x villain one? Sorry, we're gonna see it forever in CBMs (and other genres too).

@TheGODDAMNSUPERGUY - I thought Captain America was fantastic and had lots of cool action. Thor is what disappointed me because it barely had any action.

"....and doesn't just have "horns coming out of his head"

Don't talk crap, until your movie comes out and proves itself worthy. It's easy to talk, now. Just wait...
