New Superman Henry Cavill On The Cover Of EW

No, he's not donning the iconic red n blue duds, but WB have released a picture of Cavill sporting the "S" on his t-shirt via the cover of Entertainment Weekly. The actor also speaks about being cast as The Man Of Steel..

The film hasn't begun production yet, but perhaps as a response to the rumors that the movie is having script problems, Warner Bros have decided to issue a pic of Henry Cavill in his Superman persona for the new cover of Entertainment Weekly..

The mag also features some exclusive info and interviews with Cavill and Director Zack Snyder. Here is an excerpt..

Cavill’s audition, which included shooting a screen test wearing a replica of Christopher Reeve’s once impressive, now dated Superman suit. “If you can put on that suit and pull it off,” says Snyder, ‘that’s an awesome achievement.” Cavill was feeling less than super in the moment, at least about his ability to fill out the costume: He had just finished shooting a film with Bruce Willis called The Cold Light Of Day, and the part required to him to shed the impressive abs of steel and muscle tone he had put on for the movie he made right before that, the forthcoming mythic fantasy Immortals. As an assistant helped to him put on the Super-suit, Cavill recalls: “All I could think was: Oh, god. They’re going to look at me and go ‘He’s not Superman. Not a chance.’ The actor inside me was going: You’re not ready! You’re not ready!” Snyder saw something — or rather someone — different. “He walked out, and no one laughed,” says the director. “Other actors put that suit on, and it’s a joke, even if they’re great actors. Henry put it on, and he exuded this kind of crazy-calm confidence that just made me go ‘Wow.’ Okay: This was Superman.’”

Looks to me like he needs to take a few lessons from Chris Evans and Hemsworth about bulking up for this movie! Does not look at all like Superman in that picture above IMO. :P

lol. they made him put on the reeve suit?! reeve had 3 inches on him in height. muysta been like a kid trying on his dad's suit.

also, didn't they say they wanted to get away from that superman? it seems to me like they're trying to hark back to the reeve superman with this casting and that audition.

So is he using the original suit design or changing it? I know this was just a casting exercise but it would suggest something close to the original will be seen on screen. Wasn't sure if Snyder would do a Nite Owl job on the suit and do something that looks completely different yet somehow true to the source.

Cool!

@JoshW - He has a lot of time to gain mass. Neither Evans nor Hemsworth are the one to take clues from when it comes to getting big. He will probably get some juice as everybody else. And it isnt exactly hard to bulk up, it's shedding the fat and remaining herculean that's hard. I just hope he doesn't goes all out and ends up looking like a Mr. Olympian contestant.

@ Ajax: Superman is a character with depth but under-developed. In a film like this you need visual flair and creativity, a strong script, and an actor that can find the mid point of his interpretation of the character and the general public interpretation of the character. I actually see where you are coming from with Donner vs. Snyder but this is the perfect film for Snyder. You need a developed actor not to develop one. Chris Reeves had a nice take but it wasn't really his and it was still not quite what the general audience knew, it's what they learned to accept as Superman.

He's wearing a superman t-shirt for a magazine, its not even shots of the film, title should be changed to 'henry cavill does interview with entertainment weekly wearing a superman t-shirt'

And yah i'd imagine he would bulk up closer to the time, needs to take bales advice, look at him in machinist then look at him in batman he went from something stupidly small to like 110 pounds in no time.

Sorry punks but

*Welling can't act his way out of a paper bag

*Matthew Bomer is too slight and short

*Joe Mangelliano (see Welling above)

*Brandon Routh... common sense, if you even have one

"He exuded this kind of crazy-calm confidence" even in a baby blue skin tight leotard with red panties over it.

That's why Cavill is Superman and also why Snyder is the best pair of hands this film could ever be in. He's got Superman's "essence" pegged and can outshoot any action director that Hollywood has to offer. Sure Cavill looks young, but that's the angle they're taking the character. For a young Superman, there is no better choice. If Earth One can be enjoyable, then so can Cavill as Supes. That goes for Momoa as a young Conan too btw.

This film will decimate ALL.

Vinno, agree. After thinking a bit more about it that title(even with the "Sort of") could be misleading so it's been changed.

I think he looks good here. Facially anyway. He should beef up a bit but it won't bother me if he's not a brick shithouse.

This film gonna rock. I so want to see that screentest. Come on, Snyder, show us the screntests, it won't give anything away. And if it does, just edit them down a bit. I must get a copy of EW. This is awesome. Superman has arrived! Any one else smell that faint whiff of Oscar gold, from the year 2013?
