Should lack of news on Superman reboot concern us?

Follow the jump to read my thoughts on the upcoming Superman reboot and its utter lack of news...

Ok...so as of late there has been little to zero news on the upcoming Superman reboot. This does cause reason to concern because other CBMs being released in 2012 have at least begun filming- Spider-Man, TDKR, Avengers etc-

So far, we have only 5 fully-confirmed cast members for the Superman reboot but aside from that...it seems casting has ended. Usually castings are on a Sunday...yet we've had no casting announcements for the past 2 Sundays. The Faora casting isn't even truly official yet.

I hope I'm wrong...because a Superman film with no Lex, Perry or Jimmy just doesn't seem like a Superman film to me.

Now I know people are going to leave angry comments bashing me for saying this but come on...I think most can agree that this film has made ZERO headlines. Whereas others have have their full-casts + began filming.

Whatever Snyder is planning...it better be worth this wait.

Anyway, what are your thoughts CBMers? Should we worry about this movie? Are the extreme lack of headlines a reason to worry? The Superman franchise is in a very delicate situation...it is on life-support. I'm not sure if the lack of news or updates is due to problems with the production...because i do remember they had serious 3rd Act problems. Hopefully they figure out all the issues with the movie because what we really DON'T need is another LAME Superman film.

If Snyder's film should fail... -_-

It does seem like it's been ages since we've had any info.
The casting of Faora wasn't even official either right?

I think it's also the fact we had a lotttt of interviews from Zach and Henry and a couple of others flooding the place lol.
I don't think it's reason to worry though, but I'd love a casting announcement this week!

@Zero- It does feel like forever and yes- Faora casting isn't even official yet...neither Zack nor WB have said anything.

This film is looking worse and worse.

I just don't get why they can't make a proper Superman film. Put the guy in flight and have him fight someone. THAT easy.

I wouldn't be surprised if WB pulled the project. After the abomination that was Sucker Punch, I don't think I'd want my money invested in Zack Snyder either.

@Superguy- This movie is moving ridiculously slow nonetheless. Yeah filming is in 3 months...yet not even a FULL complete casting. Snyder better have good reason for this taking sooo fu*king long.

@indoraptor- I haven't seen Suckerpunch so I can't really judge it.

I used to be a big Zack Snyder fan. Loved 300 and Dawn of the dead, and thought Watchmen was really well done.

However all my admiration and respect for the guy went out the window when he made those public snyde (get it?) comments about the THOR movie and the Iron Man franchise. I understand that there is a rivalry between Marvel and DC but I believe those people should keep it respectful in public.

So now it could care even less about another Superman movie. I respect the character as the first and most well known, but I consider him 'been there/done that' and boring. However, honestly, I think he has not really had his due on film in the modern era, so the time is ripe for a truly spectacular Superman movie.

WB might be unsure about Snyder now since his last TWO movies have underperformed badly at the box-office.

I would not be surprised if some studio execs are reconsidering. We will have to wait and see.

Just because we haven't heard the cast it doesn't mean there isn't a cast. I think this is just a case of a fan being too impatient. I'm not having a go @LP4 it just sounds like you're looking for constant updates. The reason we've heard stuff about The Avengers, The Amazing Spider-Man and The Dark Knight Rises is because they've all begun filming. We haven't heard that much about Ghost Rider 2 but thats a lot further along than Superman.

You do know that the Superman Reboot comes out almost exactly five months after The Dark Knight Rises which is the second to last comic book super hero movie to appear in 2012, The Man of Steel is the last. Five months ago we knew less about The Dark Knight Rises then we do now about the Superman reboot. I don't think we need to worry.

It's pretty silly to say that just because there've been no casting announcements in a while that there's been NO casting. Frankly, I wouldn't be surprised if WB just wants some secrecy around the film for a while.

@Coldblood- I understand how you feel. I guess as mainly a DC-guy, I just got pissed when RDJ slammed TDK film and said "Fu*k DC" lol but I can see why you're angry about Snyder's remarks.

@Frogman- I'm not looking for constant updates but to be fair it's been 2 weeks without a single update.

as for your comment about me-
"I think this is just a case of a fan being too impatient"

GL-fans said the same stuff about their film. I just figure being a fan and having waited for 2 weeks without a single update...especially after the last failed film I'm obviously going to worry.

@mainstream- If there's been casting, it would be announced. PERIOD. It's been 2 weeks without any updates...that is cause for concern.

@JayJayCAW- Thanks for the info. Hopefully what you said is true... -_-

@golden- Ok...I can see your point. Hopefully all turns out well.

i hear that the Warner Bros are dumping Zack Snyder for Darren Aronofsky, because Sucker Punch did poorly and Aronofsky is moving to Warner Brothers. my source is the little man who sits on my shoulder, Lord Fontalroy of Krowloopidon. maybe Zack Snyder finally decided to shut his mouth for half a second as he was the main source of all the superman news and quotes.

oh here's why: Sucker Punch was making the circuit, interviews and promotion and all the journalist were asking him questions about the Man of Steel...now that promotion interviews and sucker punch is over, so are the snyder tidbits

also, they are waiting to see whether Lindsay Lohan gets out of jail, so they can announce her cameo-ish role in the film

I know a lot people feel they have enough reasons to assume the worst for this film, but I don't believe that this is one of them. In general I still think it's a bit premature to say that this film will suck because the people they've picked don't meet the standards of certain fans. Im not saying it will succeed either, but we should hope for the best even if it's not exactly how we pictured it, better that than to just be cynical or pessimistic.

The point is that just because there hasn't been any news for sometime, it doesn't mean somethings wrong. They're probably still interviewing and auditioning people and won't reveal anything until they're ready to. There will be announcements in due time, we just have to be patient and hope for something great when there's an official announcement.

@LP4: 2 weeks without updates isn't a cause for concern, we've gone longer on other films without updates you just need to wait.

@ LP4 - They're probably in VERY early stages of pre-production. Either that or there's nothing to tell. Look at TDKR; a lot of the news coming out about that lately is mundane, or fanboy speculation. Although there may be reason to worry, I wouldn't worry about it too much mate.

@ indoraptor12 - I was getting that feeling too.

@ coldblood6 - Yeah, it's very likely the WB exec's are starting to question whether or not they've picked the right guy at all. Y'know what they're like abut the Superman property.

lack of news because of WB dont want to forget that Smallville is going to end and the audience wouldnt know infos about two supermans projects and mixed news

@ LP4

I didn't know about that RDJ TDK/DC statement. And I agree that that is uncalled for. At the public level these guys should keep it civil and respectful. It's a bit late but as a Marvel fan I apologise. Good luck with 'The Man of Steel'.

TheIrishSuperman - 5/12/2011, 6:15 AM
I have to agree with 'LeMartien' its all down to the Smallville finale, WB would be putting everything into this at the moment, then the Man of Steel info will start some time next week, dont forget filiming starts in August so info will more than likely be coming shortly

TAKE THIS WITH A GRAIN OF SALT; According to Wikipedia, Billy Zane is supposed to be involved in an unnamed Christopher Nolan project.....

@RyKnow- Thanks dude for the kind comment and info mate! But...if Zane is Lex I'll have a [frick]ing nerdgasm. That guy has been the fan fav for Lex since the 90's, [frick] they gotta cast that guy.

But that rumor is a bit old...I read a rumor way back last year that he met with Nolan. Eh...hope it's for Lex but this is a SNYDER film so I doubt it's for the Superman reboot dammit. -_-

@mastarockafella- Hahaha could be dude!

@Coldblood- yeah dude, RDJ said he hated TDK and said and i quote- "FU*K DC COMICS" but eh...it's all good man. I LOVE RDJ guy is a fu*king GENIUS Tony Stark. But i agree with you about professionalism. Snyder should have been more careful with his words.

jaysin420 - 5/12/2011, 9:19 PM
Here's my guess....The WB is planning to fire Cavill and bring in Welling so they don't lose him to Marvel, but they can't announce it until the Smallville finale.

And if not, there is no God.

@ LP4 - No problem mate. Like I say, I found it on Wikipedia, so there's no guarantee it's even true. It's possible he did meet with Nolan. I know Snyder's directing, but Nolan is having a significant ammount of creative input. He may have simply been getting to know Zane and seeing if he's right for the role before recommending him to Snyder. But again, that is all just speculation on my part.
But I'll agree, even though I have luke-warm feelings towards this project, Zane would make a killer Lex :)

After Smallville is over, the Marketing campaign and stuff with get rolling. Batman news just really starting rolling in a few months ago and that is set to hit theaters in summer 2012.

Superman is late 2012, early 2013 according to the studios. there is plenty of time for Spoilers and Rumors.

besides dont we already have a ton of casting news?

@RyKnow- For you my friend ;D Billy Zane sounds just like the animated Lex. Has that deep, sophisticated evil sounding voice. He's perfect for the role!!!
