In the comics published by DC, Maxwell Lord is a shrewd and powerful businessman who was very influential in the formation of the Justice League International. The DC comic was a humorous Keith Giffen/J.M. DeMatteis title in the late 1980's.

At first, Maxwell Lord worked behind the scenes to establish the League, while under the control of a villainous computer created by Metron (a later retcon would say that this was actually the villainous computer program Kilg%re, which had taken over Metron's machine). The computer wanted Max to set up a worldwide peacekeeping organization, as part of its plan to dominate the world.

Lord in recent years had taken a more serious route and the climax was in the "Sacrifice" storyline a few years back that involved the fate of Ted Kord (Blue Beetle).

Maxwell Lord will be appearing in the 19th episode of "Smallville" titled "Charade" and it will be broadcast on CW in April.

Many thanks to the heads up from the guys at Kryptonsite, link below.

LEEE777 - I really enjoyed the Keith Giffen/J.M. DeMatteis run of Justice League. Those Justice League International comic books were really good and some of the best stuff I have ever read. So this is great news. CW keeps bringing in the DC universe which is brilliant with me and as Max has ties to Checkmate, expect it to have something to do with that. Hey, hopefully one day we'll see a Justice League International movie in the works, like the third JLA movie or something.
