Spacey Loves Being Lex but Doesn't Sound Optimistic About Returning to the Role

Just because recent news said that Warner has to do a Superman film by 2011 to keep the franchise, it doesn't mean they won't go in a completely different direction--and lose Lex Luthor.

Personally, I feel like they have already done too many of them with Lex in the mix or as the LEAD villain. Time to give Supes a super-powered foe and do some damage.

I don't have any problems with the way he played Lex, the problem is that the scrip was bad.
Anyway Superman has a lot of interesting enemies that haven't been seen on the silver screen before, so it will be more interesting to show new characters instead of repeating old ones, even if they are played by great actors.

He was a good Lex but the character just needs to be left alone, I think we've all had enough of him - Superman needs a superpowered foe!

the only way lex should be in a new supes movie is if he's creating Bizarro, otherwise give us something he can punch!

@ anil

no offense, but this isn't the animated series, i never watched the animated series, and the general public doesn't even know who bizarro is, much less watch cartoons. plus, you really wouldn't want to see bizarro in a movie?? that would sweet!

@ Gunsmith, I fully agreee, but instead of just Superman, tie it all in with the Justice League movie! Bring em all in and make the story right!

QUESTION IS STAY WITH ROUTH OR GO WITH SOMEONE NEW? I MEAN ROUTH DIDNT DO A BAD JOB, I WOULD HAVE LIKED TO SEE HIM BE EXTREMELLY OVER THE TOP NERDY AND AWKWARD LIKE REEVES DID,(HILARIOUS) BUT I COULD STAND SEEING HIM AS SUPES ANGAIN OR TOM WELLING.
WulfComicFan
WulfComicFan - 7/22/2009, 3:30 PM
I say make it someone knew, with a different take on him. I mean Routh was OKAY but he played it too much like Christopher Reeves for my taste, he didn't really take the role and make it his own. Why rehash the same stuff? Come up with a new vision of him. Give him more feelings, show more his struggle to be more human or at least his trying to understand them.
WulfComicFan
WulfComicFan - 7/22/2009, 3:35 PM
And I don't believe Tom Welling is the answer either...

supersteveprime18 - 7/22/2009, 3:52 PM
If routh bulks up id keep him, as enemys go its gotta be doomsday i think he should die defeating doomsday in the first 45mins and then come back to save a doomed earth bein enslaved by darkseid.

Guys guys.... we want a string of movies not just domsday and done... WE have BRANIAC, MONGUL, BIZARRO , DARKSEID... to name a few...
WulfComicFan
WulfComicFan - 7/22/2009, 4:05 PM
@ Thegreek.....my take with Justice League, Superman & doomsday, IS a string of movies. Do it like the comics, Start with the solo Justice league movies as a sub-plot, Then for the Justice league movie, kill Supes, then carry it on through more movies. It would make a long string of movies, and make them mucho dinero, plus make fans happy.
Shadowelfz
Shadowelfz - 7/22/2009, 4:50 PM
Agreed Greek. Superman has a whole host of villians that he can actually slug it out with... Doomsday, Darkseid, Metallo, Mongul, Bizarro, Parasite, hell even Braniac can lead to some epic fights. Anyone of those would make an entertaining movie, yet they keep on making Lex the main villian.
CorndogBurglar
CorndogBurglar - 7/22/2009, 9:16 PM
Legion of Doom should be the villains in justice league. all the villains from all the solo films teaming up. they could even throw in lex if they don't use him in the new supes movie, he would obviously be the leader, but he would be sharing screen time with other villains, so it wouldn't be so bad. for the new supes movie i say brainiac, and if the producers feel they just HAVE to use lex in the new one, at least have him create bizarro.

I want to see darkseid, but he should be a JLA sequel in my opinion. the first JLA should be a basic origin story of the heroes teaming up. you don't want them kicking their worst villain's ass in the first one, right? legion of doom would be cool, and its a good reason for them to team up in the first place.
WeaponX
WeaponX - 7/22/2009, 10:11 PM
Totally agree, the first step to bring Superman back is to ditch Lex as the main/only villain. Brainiac would be the best choice and would be even better if they somehow mirrored the Superman:TAS with Brainiac being created by kryptonians. So you could blend some origin of Kal-El and his family in there without it being the same old thing. Also it gives Superman the opportunity to trash robots and let loose.

No Doomsday.

Assuming the next Supes film would be released before JL, I would go with Brainiac, but Lex is a secondary character/villain. I mean, come on, Lex is one of the most important characters, not only in Superman's world, but the entire DC heroes universe. However, Darkseid is shown throughout the movie in small tidbits foreshadowing something big. Then, at the end, set up for a full blown, balls to the wall invasion by Darkseid of Earth in the JL film, as someone else has suggested before.

They shouldn't do the death storyline in the first movie (assuming it's a reboot) because the audience will not have gotten to know the character and get a solid bond with him enough to really feel impacted by his death in the first like 45 minutes, it would feel rushed, etc. And in the second Supes film, have the last scene be Supes confronting Lex, but Lex starts freaking out in agony and starts growing mechanical extrusions and it's.....Brainiac again! Sorry, that entire scene I just described was done in JLU animated, but it was such an awesome twist! It doesn't sound that great, but just watch the JL Unlimited series. When that twist happens, it's freakin' awesome.

@ weapon x

no doomsday is right!! he was a lame character. the creators made him ONLY because they didn't want one of superman's regular villains to be the one to kill him. and they were lazy, they just created a big strong bulky monster that couldn't even talk. talk about no character building. any one of us could have created a character like that...
HenryundertheC
HenryundertheC - 7/23/2009, 8:59 PM
superman villain that will make the big screen and fans get hyped is Parasite. Not the TAS one but the monster from the comics... best live action villain ever. Also gives more awesome physical problems to superman losing his powers.

Everyone notice how he said "If Bryan Singer is directing" that's because he knows that if BS is gone, and he is, then the actors are gone too. That's the way it is 99.9% of the time. I have been saying this for over a year. Now that BS is gone, so is BR and Kevin Spacey. That whole cast is gone. The new movie needs to be completely new, and totally unlike any Superman movie we've ever seen, not some attempt to copy and capture the magic of Richard Donner.
