Superman Interview: Model/Actor Anderson Davis Talks Man of Steel Rumors

The Coventry Telegraph is featuring an interview with model/actor Anderson Davis, who the site is reporting is among the actors in the running for the role of Superman in Zack Snyder's Man of Steel.

In an excerpt from the article (follow the link for the full piece), the Coventry Telegraph writes, "Davis is a 6ft 1ins, 190lbs model and up-and-coming actor and, he tells me, he did the Superman voiceover work for the All Star Superman documentary, which will be on the DVD release of the animated movie All Star Superman when it hits stores in late 2011. He hopes, of course, that providing a voice for the animated Superman will increase his chances of getting on Warner Bros' radar as a contender for the live-action version of the character.

"I asked Anderson if he was aware of being listed online as a possible candidate for the role. He told me: 'It's really great to be getting some buzz on the internet regarding Superman. I've read that Zack seems to be wanting to go into a different direction with this superman, which I can say seems refreshing, and he's looking for an unknown which is another plus on my behalf.
I have done numerous commercials but haven't pursued acting until I felt my craft was honed enough to bring justice to a role.' So what does he think he can bring to the portrayal of such an iconic character? What qualities does the new Superman need? Davis says: 'As Superman I think I could truly bring some heart to the role, as all fans know he stands for truth, justice and the American way. In my heart Superman is also a man that has human feelings even though he is Superman. I think most fans want to see a Superman that truly feels from his heart, whether it be his intense love for Lois, his passion for people, his anger towards the enemy.

'I think most are bored with the inner battle and self-discovery Superman has gone through. This Superman needs to become more sure of himself and then start kicking some ass. Bottom line, I think people want to see some gut-wrenching true emotion from their Superman and I can give them that."

NAH...not even close to the Supes's look.

Joe Manganiello has the best chances so far.

I trust the Man of Steel will be a good movie. I'm sure they will cast someone that will give a great performance. The only problem is the story which I hope doesn't take place solely in Africa.

DCMarvelFreshman, actually a very different story. It was a general piece with a short film he starred in, while this is the reporting on an actual interview with Davis.

The article says that no actors are in the running. This fool was rumoured to be..briefly! Its been debunked. So you have an interview with some model with a view as to how Superman should be played.

I mean IF the actor (slash) model is gonna be in SUPERMAN, let it be as a character like AGENT LIBERTY =

(Though I really like Damon lol)

He ain't got the chops for SUPES.

Hey Mel, still love those Lethal Weapon movies. Okay, 3 not so much.

Just reporting on the interview, that's all. I find it fascinating to watch all of these people grab their moment in the cyber-spotlight to promote themselves and their points of view about the character. Also gives us something to discuss on the subject while we're waiting for the official announcement.

He looks pretty good, better than most choices I've seen on here (looks wise). Don't know anything about his acting but just because he was a model doesn't mean he can't act!

It's a real sign of how degenerate some people are on here that on the other Superman article (which is very different from this DCMavelFreshman) they are slating this movie already! We have NOTHING but rumour and speculation on this movie so grow some brain cells people and stop assuming everything we hear is fact! This movie will contain a character named Superman who has superpowers, that is the ONLY thing we can take as fact at this stage!

SERIOUSLY why do people jump to the conclusion that the whole movies going to be based in africa, thats the beginning chapter of superman birthright, the rest is set back in metropolis, and i remember some idiot saying he didnt want to see superman travel the world because he's only meant to be protecting metropolis, WTF supermans the earths saviour not just fricking metropolis, but thats where its going to end up

and people please just stop jumping to conclusions seriously this worse then the reaction GL trailer got where people were saying it was either going to be the best movie of the century or that it was going to the worst movie of the century, theres been no official statement or anything from wb all this is just bloody speculation, which fricking actor wouldnt want to play superman JHEEZ

BREATH, ok rant over

This guy thinks we want emotion from Superman? How about just some bad ass action and a new villain. This guy can bring his feelings and his honed acting to the next tween dramedy.

ROUTH OR BUST!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for posting this. I can verify that Davis said everything that was said in the article i posted, and also that a separate source connected with WB did say that casting has not yet started. That surprised me (as Deadline said casting had started) but then again, filming doesn't begin till next June. Warners may well be thinking about casting possibilities, but i am told there have been no auditions, screentests or readings at this time.

I asked Anderson Davis to let me know if he gets involved in the casting in any way and to try to find out more about the casting process, so I will keep you posted.

Obviously he is keen on getting a chance to screentest, and good luck to him. I'm not sure he is exactly right for Superman, as he has a very brooding look, but who am I - and who are we - to stop him from having a go at the part or for any other part that comes up. Davis does say he wants the character to kick ass and that is a good start and at least he has a muscular body. Difficult to tell who will be suitable without seeing them in a proper hair/make-up/costume test. I'd never have picked Bale for Batman or Ledger for Joker.

I'll post any updates that come my way. If Davis does reach out to WB to be considered, it will give some idea of the casting process and when it starts etc.

I think we are all tired of Superman's inner-struggles and 'self discovery' CRAP.

We have had 5 films of that shit. I want Superman to punch someone finally.

@BruceWayneNewton- Routh aint returning =) thank god

Lois Lane-Anne Hathaway
Lex Luthor-Billy Zane
Jimmy Olsen-Joseph Gorden Levitt
Brainiac-Matthew Goode

Personally I think this Anderson Davis guy is too ugly for Supes. He's got the rugged thing going for him but that's about it. I am also just getting tired of all the "young boys" playing SuperMAN.

A rugged dude should be Supes but definitely shouldn't be ugly either. Otherwise it stops feeling like "Superman" and starts feeling more like "Rambo"

I'm personally tired of going back to Superman and his roots and self discovery stuff. Granted, I'll see the movie regardless but I want to see Superman fight off an actual villain other than Lex Luthor himself (unless Lex had his awesome suit he normally wears).

I'd rather have Routh or Welling, I don't need a 3rd supes in my life.

I'd like some consistency. I'm picky about this character (as im sure we all are)and i think with the right direction Routh and Welling can do a swell job.

Yay. Another scrawny, model wanna-be actor for Superman. Great. And I don't understand why people like Joe Mangynello for the role. I didn't realize that Superman had a gigantic, bulbous Italian nose?? He doesn't look ANYTHING like Superman. Neither does this ass clown. And enough of the Team Edward vs Team Jacob adolescent bullshit with Routh and Welling. NEITHER of them are good actors, NEITHER of them are going to be considered here and people need to pull their brainless fanboy heads out of their asses.

Doesn't do it for me...

Has anyone here seen Spartacus: Blood & Sand?

While watching that show I was extremely impressed with a young actor. I had originally hoped that he could play Captain America but alas, he's an Aussie.

The other day it occured to me, that with his hair dyed black......he could be a GREAT SUPERMAN!

I give you, unknown actor, Jai Courtney...

I found a few more images of Anderson Davis that give me the Superman vibe of this generation, the guy has various looks , from superhero to villian, to good guy next door, to MMA fighter , I have really enjoy researching this actor, hes done theatre and seem to be an actor that takes in acting craft very serioulsy.
