Every now and again there's geek controversy and sometime that controversy spreads to twitter. Presently, Man of Steel is creating a deep divide in the public forum. I'm reading things like that's not Superman, there were no jokes, too much CGI, and a few other complaints about the Superman reboot. I'm also seeing people state Man of Steel is the best Superman film ever, the best comic book movie ever and exactly what Superman needed for 2013. Below, you can see some of the wide array of feelings on Man of Steel from various celebrities, comic book writers and film journalists.

7.5/10

Was actually quite disappointed in this. The film is very strangely put together. Similar to Batman Begins in fact but where in Begins the flashbacks seemed to have intros and be seamless, here it happens randomly and in some strange order. For example....if Jonathan Kent dies in a flashback...isn't it strange to continue showing past events with him still alive?

The characters are mostly very soul less. I thought Cavill did a magnificent job, but Lois Lane is poorly written to say the least. Shannon as Zod was brilliant and his soul lessness makes sense considering who he is.

Crowe as Jor-El also brilliant. Loved his inclusion all throughout. Lara though? Forgettable. I also LOVED Faora and her actress. As for the other kyptonians? Completely forgettable.

The action IS PHENOMENAL. Yes, my jaw dropped multiple times.

Final HUGE complaint. The script is mostly mediocre aside from a couple of key lines that were ALL said in the trailers. The trailers give SO MUCH away of the key dialogue. Its horrible and distracting. The lines were hurtful cheesy at points.

So yeah 7.5/10 and thats entirely due to Cavill, Shannon, Crowe, and the Action. Everything else is in this film is severely flawed. The pacing, the structure, the comedic balance, the other characters.

Really surprised at some other reviews I'm seeing here. Was no one else thrown off by the pacing/flashback style?

It's surprising to see one of the best Superman writers of all time, Mark Waid, give MOS a mixed/negative review. Well at least he was honest and not a sheep to DC.

Awwww Intruder is a flat out liar he is going to watch this movie in the theater.

Anyways the movie was epic hand down awesome. I have not be in a movie in a long time where it gets a standing ovation!

And yes some will hate it, some will love it, some may just be meh about it. But you need to go watch it for yourselves do not be sheep!

It was amazing.
I love Superman 1 & 2, but this is in another league. There were no lame cheesiness, no real estate schemes, and no sissy fighting. Lois was intelligent. Superman was real. Zod was incredible. I can't wait for a sequel. If it came out next summer it wouldn't be fast enough for me.

Loved it, absoultely loved it...I understand some of the gripes people have but this isnt "their" Superman or the one they think they now, thought it was a great spin on the character only one really shocking moment that kind of took me back, but in today's society I get it. All and All I was on the edge of my seat during the action scenes, and there were some very touching and emotional moments, Henry OWNED the role he did a fantastic job, he is Superman, and the ending was perfect. 8.5/9 easily one of my new all time favorites the only film (CBM'S) that I can even think of that would be better would be "The Dark Knight" and I think I enjoyed this more than IM1 (Although IM1 is sensational) couldnt be happier and I know the next one will be even better.

Well I guess Intruder is a mindless sheep since he relies on the holy RT score. I would love to see his logic when a Marvel Studios movie drops that low, what his take is going to be... LOL classic Trudy.

By far the best action pack movie I have ever seen. Words cannot describe how amazing epic this movie was to me and all my buddy's that have seen it. Some a second time already. This is the Superman movie I have been waiting for a long time. One that has to make hard choice, one with feelings and emotion like all of us. Cannot wait to see where they go from here with the sequel. 10/10. Btw... This is about The man becoming Superman. He mad bad choice and decision a long the way to understand who he is and thus why he will never be in those situation again.

@Jollem Well, we Marvel Studios warriors could beat Supes because we got Thor and the Hulk. :)

I thought it was awesome and I would give it 4 out of 5 stars. It was visually, a masterpiece and the action was incredible but yeah it did have its flaws like the pacing and the characterization. Lois Lane's character was awesome but I felt like they didn't develop Superman/Clark Kent's character as much I thought they should. But I did really like how they didn't hold back on his powers at all. He was pretty super!
A lot of information was jammed in this film, which got overwhelming at times but overall, I thought it was a good start to what I hope more DC movies XD
Haha too much punching? I'd rather too much punching then not enough ;p

Someone who use to be on this site & who everyone trusted reviewed it and stated he didn't like it. I trust his judgment so I'm optimistic about this film.

Waid makes a good point by saying that while Routh was flying away to do someone, during that like Earthquake scene he was still helping people using his heat vision to cut up the piece of the collapsed building.

just saw it for the second time and completely reversed my opinion. it was quite slow the second time its true, there really is too much action. just constant destruction and noise. it was probably because I was slightly drunk the first time that I enjoyed it so much. superman actually seems quite a cold person in this movie. theres no warmth to the film at all. people say that about nolans movies, but its not true. this is not the kal el I know. and its nothing to do with the donner films. I don't like those either.
