Over at the Hero Complex blog for the L.A. Times, there's a new interview with a few key figures in Warner Bros.' Superman revival. Most of the interesting quotes come courtesy of director Zack Snyder who made an interesting statement about the current state of the superhero that started this whole crazy thing. Said Snyder, "In the comic-book universe, you have all these sort of minor celebrities that have been put up as the end-all, be-all. And then you have the fallen king who’s sadly relegated to the shadows. It’s cool to resurrect him and say, ‘Understand that this is the granddaddy of all superheroes.’” Will the fallen king regain his throne? We'll find out in June but the last domestic trailer for Man of Steel has escalated fan anticipation to unprecedented levels.

The article actually opens with a very interesting (possibly true) assertion that after the Christian cross, the Superman 'S' is the second most recognizable symbol in the world. In reply to that daunting statement, Snyder mused, "Whether that’s completely true or not, I don’t know, but you want it to be true. You feel like it could be true. And it’s intimidating to say, ‘We’re going to take on the “S” and we’re going to make it live again.’” Throughout the interview, there's a real sense of rebirth and reinvention as the primary element of Snyder and WB's goal for Man of Steel.

As for the superficial aesthetic that has become a staple of Snyder's visual style after films such as Watchmen and Sucker Punch, the director hints that he's dialed that nob back a bit for his next feature. “[Man of Steel's] the most realistic movie I’ve made. There’s no tongue in anyone’s cheek. I’m not apologizing for Superman in any way. I’m saying, ‘Superman is a thing that must be taken seriously and embraced and understood.’” As the trailer revealed, the "S" on Superman's chest is actually Kryptonian for hope in the Man of Steel world and based on everything revealed so far about the film, that exactly what Snyder and co. have inspired in the legions of Superman fans. Heaven help them if they fail to deliver anything less that spectacular on June 14th.

That's one of my favorite quotes from Bryan Singer actually. When he was filming Returns he said:

"You take the Cross and the S-Shield into a jungle and you'll have 50-50 recognition"

@suspenseSmith i agree adams is my biggest fan boy gripe. she's a great actress and as far as her voice and performance she seems like she's going to be a good lois but as shallow as it sounds she just doesn't have that lois lane look, she's not hot enough...end fan boy gripe/nitpick

i honestly believe man of steel will gross more money in the US & Europe than Iron man 3. i know a lot of people that never really get excited about movies that are stoked about man of steel. wouldnt be surprised if IM3 wins worldwide tho

Related to SuperMAN is IRON MAN!

& I just saw it!
...& I'll see it again to make a firm decision on whether I like it or not!
But right now... Initial thoughts... no spoilers!
Good stuff:

- solid story!
- RDJ & Guy Pearce are amazing!
- Cool tech & action!

Bad things...
- THE FVCKING MANARIN!!!!
- All action sequences except Tony house destruction!
- Taken EXTREMELY LIGHTLY!

AVENGERS only drawback for me was extensive amount of humour (even in places it SHOULD'VE been avoided like at Colsen death) but IM-3 just topped that.... Absolute LACK of EMOTION... Tension hasn't been built in ANY scene (Except House destruction) ... All emotional, dramatic & tense scenes were filtered through an unbeliable number of one liners & gags!!!
Like for Gods same we got it that MARVEL is fun & DC is DARK!
But don't take emotion & tension out of your film... Atleast for FEW minutes!
Story is SOLID & so is Acting!
I hope Guy Pearce gettes bigger after this!

& I'm not gona say anything on MANDARIN... But I really thought that after Heath's JOKER, Sir Ben Kingsley had the acting chops & character requirements to really take it to another level!
So whatever stuff is done with MANDARIN is just AWEFUL!
I really feel insulted!
& to quote Rhodey "I want to puch him in the FACE"!!!

I hope I enjoy it more 2nd time cuz I'm gona see it again... For STAR TREK 2 & especially MAN OF STEEL trailers... In 3D... they were AMAZING!!

Fallen king is not a term I can agree with here. I would rather say he is a king in exile, long forgotten but not gone. People have forgotten him, and most doesn't even understand the character so they blow him off as some sort of A4 paper sheet. This is the true Superman returns RETURNS. Make him relevant again. Make him lead and the rest of the DC heroes will follow. I cannot wait for Man of Steel!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree with Levi. Also, in terms of box office, I predict The Wolverine will be like TASM. Make good money, but sort of forgotten in a summer of Avengers and Dark Knight Rises. Although I am really looking forward The Wolverine. Second most anticipated movie, number one is none other than MOS.

Hopefully Chris Nolans name on MOS as producer will get a lot of the people to the theater.

Gotta admire the man letting them use his name and then letting Snyder do his own thing in complete freedom.

The world needs this movie to succeed, both critically and financially.

i dont like his movies but i like the words that are coming out of his mouth. DC NEEDS THIS MOVIE. they need this movie to be everything he says it is so i'm rooting for him. because if this fails then the chances of seeing the B, C and D list characters on screen become slim to none. and personally, i prefer DC's lesser known heroes over their mainstream ones.

At this point, Iron Man (RDJ) is more popular in the "outside" world.

LOL superman is going to KILL at the box office and no doubt be one of the best cbms ever made... and this is coming from a diehard Marvel Fan. Face it SuperMan is the most known superhero of all time. Watching the trailer alone will make nonfans and the average movie goer want to see this film.
