THE FLASH Director Confirms Cameo From [SPOILER] And It's Been 25 Years In The Making

The Flash director Andy Muschietti has dropped a huge bombshell about the upcoming DC Comics movie, confirming at least one massive cameo that's been at least 25 years in the making for the actor involved!

After Black Adam and Shazam! Fury of the Gods both flopped, Warner Bros. decided to take a slightly different approach to marketing The Flash.

As well as making use of endorsements from the likes of Tom Cruise, Stephen King, and even DC Studios boss James Gunn (who insists it's his favourite movie of 2023), the decision was made to premiere an unfinished cut of the $220+ million movie during April's CinemaCon. Spoilers immediately started finding their way online, while fan screenings are taking place just under a month before The Flash's theatrical release.

In an interview with Esquire Middle Earth, director Andy Muschietti dropped quite the bombshell by confirming that Nic Cage makes a cameo appearance in the movie as Superman.

"Nic was absolutely wonderful," the filmmaker tells the site. "Although the role was a cameo, he dove into it...I dreamt all my life to work with him. I hope I can work with him again soon."

“He is a massive Superman fan. A comic book fanatic," Muschetti added.

The Kick-Ass and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse star was originally lined up to play the Man of Steel in Tim Burton's ill-fated Superman Lives. The project fell apart for a variety of reasons, though photos of a costume test with Cage suited up while rocking a mullet have done the rounds online for years.

When it comes to what this cameo will actually look like, we've heard that he'll be shown battling the infamous giant spider which was once one of the scrapped movie's lead villains.

It's surprising to see Muschietti talk openly about Cage's role in The Flash this soon, but there's always a chance the site in question has broken some sort of embargo. The information is out there now, though, and we'd expect spoilers to continue cropping up across social media in the weeks ahead.

The Flash is set to arrive in theaters on June 16.

I legit cant believe the director spoiled the biggest surprise almost one month before release...reminds me of Black Adam and Shazam 2...
Weird how they are so desperate to hype-up this movie, Tom Cruise loved it.

Gonna be a cameo-fest. Why the hell would you spoil this? They are DESPERATE.

@GhostDog - They leaked the George Clooney cameo MONTHS ago, but I though they would restrain from this one...plus, it wasnt a leak, it was the director ANNOUNCING IT, not even The Rock dared to straight up say "Henry Cavill is in the movie".
Same thing with them giving away tickets like candy, a lot of people already saw the movie.

@TheHumanSpider2 - it’s even weirder cause they purposely cut them out of screening footage to not spoil it lmao

@GhostDog - I wonder if this desperation will affect the DCU before it even starts in 2025.

@GhostDog - Gunn also said Shazam 2 was great...I dont judge him, is his job.
But sending celebrities to say how good this movie is, is a weird strategy, why are Jaden Smith and Stephen King praising this movie? and of course, the thing with Tom Cruise was just BIZARRE.

@GhostDog -

It's WB marketing strategy. The stars seem scared to promote it because they don't want to be asked about Ezra. Not to mention the star being a pedo.

So they resort to paying celebs and asking for favors to promote the film.

They resort to having fun screenings and you know what?

IT HASNT EVEN TRENDED! that's insane to me. Even the fake hype isn't producing numbers😂

@AmazingFILMporg - part of me can't blame them. They sort of need to avoid Ezra at all costs. But its so desperate and cringy.

@BeNice123 - I think it will be a moderate success, but the movie was so expensive, it will still lose money.
ObserverIO
ObserverIO - 5/25/2023, 5:34 AM
@BeNice123 - I think it'll make a billion and they'll take that as a success. What they don't realise is that without Ezra it would've made 2 billion.

I've no way to prove that, but it's so [frick]ing obvious. Hype for this movie is like a fizzy bottle of Champagne that somebody's shaken up, with a cork in it. Ezra is the cork.
All that excitement remains restrained by the cork. Wew won't let it burst and overflow.

If they'd just confirm that he won't return in the DCU, I think they could earn a half billion dollars of that excitement back.
BeNice123
BeNice123 - 5/25/2023, 10:23 AM
@ObserverIO - right? I just dont that guy to get any credit if the movie does become a success.
ObserverIO
ObserverIO - 5/25/2023, 11:21 AM
@BeNice123 - Me either. But studios are always learning the wrong lessons.
I fear the whole "Wait and see" stance from Gunn and Safran and that dude who said that the movie will "Make people forget" what Ezra's done point toward them waiting for Box Office results to decide whether or not Ezra will continue as the Flash.

not only does the reek of desperation, it's kind of a weird attempt to. Yes Nicolas Cage as Superman is a fun bit of Hollywood trivia, but this is catering to such a specific market.

Most of the general public doesn't know Kevin Smith's story about Nicholas Cage as Superman fighting a giant spider.

Plus, the director says it's just a cameo. If I was on the fence about seeing the movie, I promise you, seeing Nicolas Cage for 2 minutes isn't swaying my opinion.
TheHumanSpider2
TheHumanSpider2 - 5/24/2023, 11:53 AM
@SATW42 - Exactly, this is even worse than going for the nostalgia of guys in their 40s with Keaton, this goes after the same demographic, but is a lot more obscure, only NERDS in their 40s know about this.
And from what we heard, they only used his likeness for a CGi model (which, from the trailers, seems to be the case for most characters) fighting the infamous "Thanagarian Beast", is not like Nic Cage was on set and has actual lines of dialogue.

newhire13 - 5/24/2023, 12:49 PM
@SATW42 - I don’t understand how that’s a bad thing. For the general audience it’s a fun little moment and for people in the know it’s a fun piece of trivia we never thought we’d see. If your film involves the multiverse you should take it as an opportunity to do something unexpected and interesting.
SATW42
SATW42 - 5/24/2023, 2:44 PM
@newhire13 - but the general audience will just think “why is Nicolas cage randomly playing a version of Superman fighting a giant spider.

The multiverse doesn’t mean anything if there’s no connection to the characters people are seeing.
