PRESS RELEASE:

IMAX Corporation, Paramount Pictures and Marvel Entertainment, LLC formally announced today that they have finalized an agreement to release Thor in digital IMAX theaters worldwide day-and-date on May 6, 2011. The release marks the continuation of the partnership between IMAX, Paramount and Marvel. The film, based on the well-known Marvel comic book, is directed by Kenneth Branagh, produced by Kevin Feige, and stars Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman and Anthony Hopkins. The screenplay is by Ashley Edward Miller & Zack Stentz and Don Payne from a story by J. Michael Straczynski and Mark Protosevich.

Tim Connors, Chief Operating Officer, Marvel Studios, stated, "We're excited to continue our relationship with IMAX following the success we shared on 'Iron Man 2,' and we look forward to fans experiencing the thrill of 'Thor' in the immersive IMAX 3D format."

"Bringing iconic characters to life is something that Marvel Entertainment and Paramount do very well, and we're confident that Thor will also come to life on the IMAX screen,"
said IMAX CEO Richard L. Gelfond. "This highly-anticipated summer title is tailor-made for the IMAX audience."

"We're pleased to expand our relationship with Marvel and Paramount with 'Thor,' which is a great addition to our summer tentpole slate,"
said Greg Foster, Chairman and President of IMAX Filmed Entertainment. "We believe 'Thor' will resonate with the IMAX audience by transporting them directly into the 3D world that Kenneth Branagh and the Marvel team have created for this epic film."

With an all star cast which includes Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Anthony Hopkins as Odin, Natalie Portman as Jane Foster, Jeremy Renner as Clint Barton and Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Thor is set to be released in the UK on April 29 and shortly after in the US on May 6, later this year!

Of course, Marvel added Natalie on it because of the oscar award.

nice poster, but more characters would have been more epic, I think.

Thor isn't even close to 8ft......Were you kidding GrimeKid?

He's 6'6 in the comics 616 universe and 6'5 in the Ultimate universe 1610. Hemsworth is 6'3 on the higher end I would say since he doesn't look much shorter then his brothers, which one is 6'4 and the other is 6'6. Hemsworth fits fine with the rest of the cast and the Avengers and clearly looks about 6'5-6'6 in most of the Shots. I just hope when they weigh him he is like 600lbs. Thats would be funny lol

Thor is no where near 8ft tall the man isn't a freaking frost giant. Hemsworth looks the part of Thor just like Robert Downey Jr. looks the part of Tony Stark.

Yeah, I hear Chris Hemsworth refused to undergo the procedure.

I'm still a little leary about this post-production 3D thing. Hate to miss out if the 3D is good. But I can't lose with a straight up 2D without any light loss.
