Ryan Gosling Spotted Having Lunch With THOR 4 Director Taika Waititi - Could He Be MCU Bound?

Could Ryan Gosling be MCU bound?

The Blade Runner 2049 actor was spotted having lunch with Taika Waititi yesterday afternoon in LA, leading to speculation that the director may have offered him a role in Thor: Love and Thunder.

While the meeting was most likely movie-related, the upcoming Marvel Studios sequel is not the only project Waititi has in the works. He's also preparing to shoot sports movie Next Goal Wins for Fox Searchlight, and there's always a slim chance the pair could be discussing Warner Bros.' live-action Akira movie - although we recently found out that's been put on hold for the time being, and we already know the studio was looking for a mostly teenage cast.

So, this might be a bit of a reach, but there's no harm in a bit of harmless speculation of a Saturday!

Assuming Gosling is in line for a part in Thor 4, which character do you think he could be set to play? The God of Thunder's half-brother Balder, perhaps? How about the villainous Gorr? Drop us a comment in the usual place.

Ryan Gosling's an absolutely awesome actor, but it's very unlikely this was for a Marvel film. It was Taika's birthday, so they could have been just having coffee, but what's more likely is that he's in talks for Taika's upcoming Fox Searchlight film. The coach in that is Dutch, and Gosling could certainly pull that off.
Even outside of it being Taika's next film, the Goose has already said no to so many superhero roles I'd be surprised if he even ever does one.

Also, holy [frick]ing balls - what a run the Goose has been on:
-The Big Short
-The Nice Guys
-La La Land
-Blade Runner 2049
-First Man
-Next Goal Wins
All back-to-back, with one of them being one of the best sequels of all-time.

@tmp3 - no joke! Bladerunner 2049 is almost as good as the original.

@RancidBane - I don't think there's been any big budget film as good as Blade Runner 2049 to open since Blade Runner 2049

@tmp3 -

I haven't BR2049 as I sometimes have to be in the mood for certain movies, but it comes to Netlfix at the end of the month so I should finally see it.

@SimplyAz - Oh man, you're in for a treat. Such an incredible piece of film-making, one of the few big movies that feel like they were made 100% by an auteur with no studio notes at all. There's so many interesting themes, subtext, and the meticulous pace of the film just absorbs you into the world they set up and never lets go until the credits roll. It's the kind of movie that made me fall in love with movies in the first place.

@tmp3 -

It sounds amazing, love the way you describe it.
I don't know why I delayed it, was close to watching it but then the running time was too long.

The thing is I absolutely loved Arrival, just blew me away, so I shouldn't have put it off for too long.

@SimplyAz - I remember loving Enemy and Prisoners, but I still put off Sicario until after I'd already seen Arrival twice in cinemas, so I can relate haha.

He isnt there discussing MCU. Taika is doing a movie before Thor. I bet it's that film they are talking about.

@RancidBane - Could be... and it could also be Thor.

@RancidBane - Gonna need some old age makeup if he's the lead tho

@RorMachine - or, you know, it could be lunch. A lot of these celebrities have relationships we dont realize. Robert englund was friends with mark hamill and told him about the star wars audition.

@Origame - Yeah, this was on Taika's birthday too - so it could be a birthday lunch

@tmp3 - yeah. Credit where credits due, he did say it was a stretch and mentioned in the title that his only evidence was they had lunch together. But yeah, this is a big stretch. Im not expecting anything or think this is even worth speculation.

This seems like a stretch but since James Gunn won't introduce him, what if...?

@Robby - Given how awesome Anthony Starr has been as Homelander in The Boys. I would love him to be cast as Nova.

Taika is doing a film before Thor

It’s likely for that

Doesn’t mean Gosling won’t do a comic book film but he has said before he doesn’t want to do a superhero film mostly because of the lengthy contracts

To be honest, I hope Gosling doesn’t do any comic book films because he does so many great films. As much as i love rdj, it sucks how he only did iron man for so many years not doing any other films. I mean it’s his choice but it does suck not seeing him in any other films

@LEVITIKUZ - It's probably a one-off type role, similar to Goldblum in Ragnarok. He'll get to hang out in Australia for a few months with one of the brightest talents in Hollywood, probably playing a goofy, yet well-rounded, character for millions of dollars. He could easily say yes and it would put him nowhere near RDJ in terms of contract length.

Or its for an indie.

@LEVITIKUZ - granted i dont think he'll be in thor, it is possible that Gosling would do a superhero film if its for a villain who dies by the end. That's why i think mysterio really is dead, because Gyllenhaal also isnt into those contracts so ending his story in one movie makes sense.

I guess this kills his chances for doing Damian Chazelle's Babylon due to scheduling conflicts? I know they wanted Brad Pitt to lead that, but the report also said it's unlikely he'd sign
