Thanks to USA Today, we have a new still from Thor: Love and Thunder showcasing the hero's quest for inner piece. It appears the movie will show the God of Thunder considering retirement, only to be reluctantly pulled back into action by the emergence of a deadly new foe, Gorr the God Butcher.
We can't discount the possibility that Gorr will ultimately strike a fatal blow to Thor, but assuming Chris Hemsworth intends to continue playing this character, what comes next?
It could be that he does retire, allowing Marvel Studios to put the hero on the shelf until he's needed again. Alternatively, this adventure might make Thor realise he's needed more now than ever before, and with the original Captain America and Iron Man gone following the events of Avengers: Endgame, he could finally take centre stage and lead his own team of Earth's Mightiest Heroes.
Take a look at this new still from Thor: Love and Thunder below:
The movie finds Thor (Chris Hemsworth) on a journey unlike anything he’s ever faced – a quest for inner peace. But his retirement is interrupted by a galactic killer known as Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale), who seeks the extinction of the gods. To combat the threat, Thor enlists the help of King Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Korg (Taika Waititi) and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), who – to Thor’s surprise – inexplicably wields his magical hammer, Mjolnir, as the Mighty Thor.
Together, they embark upon a harrowing cosmic adventure to uncover the mystery of the God Butcher’s vengeance and stop him before it’s too late. Sounds like an electrifying ride, eh?
Directed by Taika Waititi, the movie stars Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Christian Bale, Tessa Thompson, Russell Crowe, Jaimie Alexander, Chris Pratt, Karen Gillan, and Sean Gunn among others.
Thor: Love and Thunder is set to be released in theaters on July 8, 2022.
