With Thor: Love and Thunder now playing in theaters, Marvel Studios Director of Visual Development Andy Park has shared his approved designs for the God of Thunder and Mighty Thor.
Chris Hemsworth's Thor rocked a few different looks throughout the course of this movie, and debuted his colourful blue and gold costume on a whim when he wanted to overshadow his new female counterpart (not knowing that it was Jane Foster beneath the helmet). Unfortunately, the Avenger didn't keep his own helmet on for more than a few seconds.
As for The Mighty Thor, we really can't find fault with her live-action costume. Paying homage to both the comic books and the original Thor's MCU look, the character looked awesome in action and fans are keen to see Jane's story continue somehow.
Interestingly, Park notes that he came up with this design three years ago! It's easy to forget that Thor: Love and Thunder was first announced in 2019 before the pandemic came along and delayed Marvel Studios' entire Phase 4 slate. The movie is finally with us, though, and is expected to hit Disney+ on or around August 24 at the earliest.
"Too silly to take seriously, there’s still a lot to love about Thor: Love and Thunder, but unlike Thor: Ragnarok, it’s unlikely to be a movie you’ll fall in love with," we said in our review last week. "Marvel Studios may be developing a quantity over quality issue."
Take a look at this new Thor: Love and Thunder concept art below:
The movie finds Thor (Chris Hemsworth) on a journey unlike anything he’s ever faced – a quest for inner peace. But his retirement is interrupted by a galactic killer known as Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale), who seeks the extinction of the gods. To combat the threat, Thor enlists the help of King Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Korg (Taika Waititi) and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), who – to Thor’s surprise – inexplicably wields his magical hammer, Mjolnir, as the Mighty Thor.
Together, they embark upon a harrowing cosmic adventure to uncover the mystery of the God Butcher’s vengeance and stop him before it’s too late.
Directed by Taika Waititi, the movie stars Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Christian Bale, Tessa Thompson, Russell Crowe, Jaimie Alexander, Chris Pratt, Karen Gillan, and Sean Gunn among others.
